Summary
The creature swam forward as Ratio walked to the waterside. As he stepped into the shallows, Ratio could see now that he was wearing a robe, gauzy-thin and clinging to his skin. When he tilted his head to the side to survey him, moonlight caught and glinted off the ends of the ornaments in his hair. Behind him were a pair of gossamer wings, tinted green like a peacock’s feathers.
A nymph of some kind? But nymphs didn’t have wings. Nereid? That’d explain the water but not the wings. But then again, he could’ve just been disturbing the creature’s bath and the water wasn’t related to anything at all.
Ratio was in front of him now, reaching a delicate hand out to him. The creature's bones looked fine and thin, like a bird’s, and he was shaped so perfectly, Ratio feared he’d crumble away if he touched him. “Yes, I think you’ll do very nicely,” the being said. “But first thing's first: Can I have your name?"
When a deadly disease sweeps Ratio's village, he takes it upon himself to quest into the mountains to track down the source. What he finds is a fae, as beautiful as he is deadly. What he gets is more than he bargained for.
