Chapter Text
“We’ll be live in five minutes! Get ready everyone!”
Paulina smiled at the announcement, both hands clutching the microphone in her hands. It was almost time. Oh, she couldn’t wait! She had to fight the urge to shake and squeal. Quietly taking a deep breath, she counted to ten before slowly letting it out. Looking down, she made sure her feet were positioned squarely in the middle of the stage and a foot apart, even with her shoulders. She held her back straight and relaxed, closing her eyes as she mentally went over her script.
“Everything’s ready, Mikey. You have the camera positioned?”
“Of course!” Mikey huffed over the sound of shuffling feet. “I’ve been checking every minute since we started.”
Paulina ignored the nerds in front of her bickering. They knew what they were doing making sure everything was fully prepared and that’s all she cared about.
Well, she cared about this night. Paulina really cared about this night. This broadcast was set up as soon as she made the call to the TV station. The newscasters were delighted to have her here.
Money talks, as it always did.
Mentally checking her itinerary, Paulina couldn’t help but let out one little squeal. Finally. She’d finally find out about the ghost boy and the infamous ghost hunter.
Those two were always together whenever she saw them, fighting, patrolling, talking.
Phantom, the town's ghost superhero, only appeared whenever another ghost did and he would come to defend Amity Park from their reign of terror. Paulina marveled over Phantom for years. He was a ghost himself, yet he fights his own kind to help humans. Who does that?!
And Comet, the mysterious ghost hunter dressed in a white and black battle suit, appeared suddenly about a year and a half ago and had been fighting ghosts ever since. Comet fighting made more sense since he’s a human defending humans. And, at first, Comet and Phantom didn’t appear together often. Whenever they did, they stayed away from each other, did their business, then left. But they have been fighting together since last year.
Paulina wouldn’t have minded if it didn’t seem a little odd. She figured Comet would try to get rid of all ghosts, including Phantom. That’s what that loser Danny Fenton’s parents stated they do in their last PSA. So, why didn’t Comet try to?
And the two of them seem calm around each other. Paulina even swore she saw Comet defend Phantom when one of those blasters tried to hit him.
There’s got to be more to them. And this performance was going to help her.
“Alright! We are now live!”
Paulina forced herself not to jerk in surprise. All those drills in cheerleading were starting to pay off. She blinked twice to get out of her thoughts as the announcer got the crowd ready.
“…and now let’s welcome Paulina Sanchez!” The audience clapped and hollered at her name.
The spotlight shone down on her. This was it.
Paulina smirked and tilted her head, eyes doing a sweep of the crowd before landing on the camera in the center. “Hey everyone! How are you all doing?”
The crowd screamed their responses at her. She waited until it calmed before continuing. “So, as per the theme tonight, there’s a reason that I’m here before you. I have created a dedication to a certain ghost boy!” The crowd oooed and cheered. “I’ve made a special song just for him. Get ready for my solo!” Cheers followed after her announcement. Paulina smiled coyly before she took a deep breath.
As soon as her voice hit, the crowd went wild. Paulina boasted to herself. Of course her singing voice was flawless.
As she sang, her eyes swept over the crowd. So far so good. She noticed a hole in the wall in the back. She could guess what that was from.
After a minute, she got to the part she’d been waiting for.
Deja a la chica del nombre falso
Dije deja a la chica del nombre falso
Paulina smiled at the cheers she got in response.
Dije deja a la chica del nombre falso
y mejor ven por este bombón que se
atrevió~
Paulina subtly smirked when she noticed two floating shadows off to the side. She looked at Mikey’s camera with one eye, making sure the other was covered by her hair.
a entrar a tu habitación~
Her microphone was snatched out of her hand. Paulina blinked, startled at the interruption, and turned towards the being. She didn’t even notice him come up on stage.
“What are you doing?” Comet asked into the mic, voice robotic. He seemed irritated but Paulina couldn’t see his expression through his faceplate.
She regarded him coolly as she prepped her response. Having Comet here made her shift her plan slightly but it just made things better.
Paulina plucked the microphone from his hand and said, “I’m trying to win my boyfriend back.” Comet faltered a bit, stepping slightly back and sputtering. Paulina shrugged and resumed singing.
Dije deja a la chica del nombre falso-
Comet took the mic back and Paulina turned slightly towards him, other hand on her hip.
“What boyfriend?” Comet sounded exasperated.
Paulina pulled the instrument towards her. “Phantom.”
Comet took control of it back. “Phantom is not your boyfriend!” Oh he definitely sounded agitated that time.
Then Comet yelled, “I’M HIS BOYFRIEND!”
The crowd went silent. Paulina jerked in shock. Comet was Phantom’s boyfriend?
They’re boyfriends ?
Paulina pulled the mic close to her. “Say that again?”
“No,” Comet replied, voice small.
Was this true?
Paulina herself had a reputation of liking the ghost boy and she used that to her advantage to find dirt on them. She liked both Phantom and Comet but more in an admiration sort of way. So, she figured she’d utilize the public in helping her get close to Phantom with this song, thinking they’re an item. Then she could confront him, learn what was up, and set the record straight once all was done. Paulina knew there was something more to them but she didn’t even think of a romantic relationship being the answer.
She felt a slow smile spread across her cheeks as Comet stayed still, frozen. This was even better than she could have imagined.
“That’s ok,” she said, pulling out the tape recorder from her pocket, “I have it right here.”
Comet stared at the device until she pointed towards the cameras where he followed with his head. “And they have it on live television.”
This was the evidence she wanted. And it makes so much sense with both of them! Paulina grinned happily.
Paulina pressed play on the tape recorder as Comet turned back to her, shoulders hunched. “Damn,” he said, softly.
Paulina watched Comet thoughtfully, thoughts and images coming into place as the recorder kept playing in the background.
I’m his boyfriend
I’m his boyfriend
