   Summary

   Lord Gloucester’s hand rested lightly on her waist as they moved through the steps of the quadrille. He was handsome enough: tall, broad-shouldered, with a sharp jawline that seemed crafted specifically to win the favour of discerning mamas. His conversation was pleasant too, peppered with the occasional wry comment that might have made her laugh, had her thoughts not been so elsewhere.

   He was everything a woman of her situation ought to want. An earl. Wealthy beyond belief. Accepting his proposal—should he ever offer it—would finish all their financial worries in one sweeping gesture.
