Chapter Text
“I’ve always liked the name Violet,” Vander stated tenderly, knowing his friend well enough to know that the suggestion would stick.
Felicia gave a chuckle in return, lifting her cup to her lips again.
A quiet pause settled between them, each thinking about what new path lay before them.
“And when are you two gonna make me an aunt?” Felicia teased, looking from Vander to Silco with a raised eyebrow.
Vander found Silco’s eyes as he felt his own face heat up at the question, the heat mirrored in Silco’s cheeks slowly growing redder.
They'd never talked about that. At this point they hadn’t even talked about what they were to each other, really. Co-workers that occasionally fucked as an outlet from their stress in the mines? Fuck-buddies with a common interest in freeing their people? Lovers? Partners?
It would be a lie for Vander to say he didn’t harbour feelings for Silco. They had crept up on him even before they had become intimate for the first time. It was a soft smile, a tender look, or Silco showing his fierce side when it came to their dream of a free Zaun, that made Vender’s heart clench with affection. Yet he’d never really dared to hope that the affection would be shared by Silco.
Of course Vander had thought about their children running through the streets without a care for clothes, food or even safety. Once or twice he’d come close to asking Silco if he’d ever wanted kids to begin with. But there was work to be done. Work for the people, Felicia and her child, and perhaps one day, their future children.
“Well, maybe after we walk the streets of the free Nation of Zaun we’ll make you an aunt. Can you be that patient?” Silco finally replied, his eyes still locked with Vander’s, lips gently curved upwards. His question more aimed at Vander than Felicia.
Gulping at those words, Vander tore his eyes away to look back at his other friend, her eyes sparkling with contentment, knowing she’d just made it impossible for Silco and Vander to any longer avoid talking about what they meant to each other and their future.
Felicia huffed a laugh before grabbing her cup to raise it above her head, “To Zaun!” she cheered.
Silco and Vander shared another smile before raising their glasses to chime in.
“To the Nation of Zaun!”
“And us and our children.” Vander added in his head.
