Work Text:

Amity didn't know what to expect when she and her friends were basically forced to stay with Luz's family after being stranded in the Human Realm.

Camila was a nice woman, and she wasn't saying this to be polite. She was genuinely sweet and wanted to make sure that they were alright.

But, let's just say that Amity didn't have a good experience when it came to mothers.

Odalia wasn't the kindest or even the nicest person around. Amity came to accept that a long time ago. She convinced herself that her mother was harsh on her because she believed that she had great potential and would do great things and become a powerful and influential witch. It certainly didn't help that she was gifted with abomination magic, and the praises the teachers had for her did nothing but fuel her mother's ambitions. It was for her own good, telling her how to act, how to dress, - even who to be friends with.

The older she got the more she clung to that justification. Now, she couldn't believe that there was a time when she used to do everything she said.

Needless to say, that didn't leave Amity with much.

She had no idea how to behave around Camila.

But she tried her best to be of assistance - do chores, be polite, not get in the way. The others helped, of course, none more than Hunter. She didn't expect to spend so much time with him just sweeping and dusting all over the house. It was nice in a way. They worked well together, and she could feel the tension between them dissipating. Their combined effort kept the house in top shape.

Camila insisted that it was alright and that they didn't need to, but Amity was sure that that was only out of formality.

She could tell that she was very grateful that they took care of these things and if Amity had to be honest she needed something to take her mind off of things. Between not knowing what happened to the Demon Realm, being stuck in a strange new world, and failing to build a new portal she really needed it. It was a shred of control in the uncertainty.

Eventually, it sunk in that she wasn't expected to do these things. That only made her continue at a more relaxed pace - she even took off days here and there. She failed at convincing Hunter of the same, however. But she hoped to lead by example and he would eventually follow. She could hope.

With her initial discomfort out of the way, there was also something that Amity couldn't reconcile around Camila.

Luz was adamant that she could not know that they were dating.

She tried to explain to Amity why and that was a Human Realm thing that she would never understand. But decided against arguing. Amity did as her girlfriend saw fit, she was the expert in these matters. And more crucially, this was her mother, she would be affected the most if things were to go badly.

This caused her to stay wary of Camila.

She didn't want to. Like she said, she seemed like a wonderful and sweet woman and she would have loved nothing more than to get to know her better. She just wasn't sure if it was a wise thing to do.

Not with Luz fretting over how to tell her mother that she was 'bi'.

At this point, Amity would have preferred if they just ripped off the healing patch and got it over with, consequences be damned. She couldn't stand this lingering tension between the three of them. She was sure that Camila could tell that something was going on, she could not be that oblivious and they were not that good at hiding these things.

The others tried to comfort them and get Luz to commit to some plan of 'coming out' - another confusing Human Realm term.

It eventually took Vee to sit Luz down and have a privet conversation with her. She must have been convincing enough because Luz threw herself into making a little presentation video with a fervor Amity hadn't seen before. She spent long hours hunched over her 'laptop' toiling away. Gus hovered over her shoulder long enough that he got enthusiastically recruited into her efforts.

Amity was just a bit concerned but it appeared as if Luz and Gus were having fun so she let it be.

And thank the Titan she did.

The result was an overwhelming success.

It was amazing how the air in the Noceda household changed after that. The previous trepidation and uncertainty Amity felt around Camila was well and truly gone. It didn't feel like she had to watch her every move when around her, she and Luz could openly hold hands and be as 'lovey-dovey' - as Vee put it - as their hearts desired.

Amity didn't realize that she had been walking on eggshells, even after she thought that she could let her guard down around Camila. It was only when they could tell that they were dating that she could truly relax. And that made the difference.

Camila would coo at them whenever they did something she thought was adorable.

It was, well Amity didn't know how to describe it, but it made her blush a horrible shade of red. Thankfully, Luz wasn't faring better either.

Amity was alone in the kitchen reading a book by the table when Camila arrived back from work.

"Camila, you are back. How was your day?" she closed her book and stood to meet her.

"Long and tiring. This last cat we had in, I swear she wanted to murder us all," she said with a tired chuckle.

She stepped next to Amity and pulled her into a side hug. It became a common greeting between them, and Amity couldn't lie, it made her feel a bit giddy on the inside.

"How was your day, cariño?" Camila asked. "How's the portal coming along."

Amity shrugged. "It didn't blow up this time, so it's something."

She hummed. "That's progress. But don't forget to take some breaks here and there," she added. "That reminds me, where is everybody?"

"Luz and Vee are upstairs," Amity said. "I think they wanted to watch a movie. Willow, Gus, and Hunter are outside gardening."

She smiled. "That's nice. Wouldn't you like to go join them?"

"Maybe another time."

"Then would you mind helping me with dinner?" Camila asked.

Amity frowned. "I don't know, I never cooked before," she admitted with some shyness. Back home everything was done by abomination servants, so she never had to bother with these kinds of things. Now she felt very out of her element. Should she really be trying? Wouldn't she just get in the way?

"Then it's a good thing that I will be doing the cooking," Camila chuckled. "You will be doing the helping."

Well, if she put it that way. Maybe she can give it a try.

"Sure," Amity gave her a smile. "What should I do first?"
