Work Text:

Amajiki Tamaki never had that many friends. In fact at his old school--of which he was bullied out of--some would say that all he had were enemies. But that sounds a little too dramatic for such a mundane issue. So he was bullied out of his last school because the Principle literally said “I don’t know what to do,” so his mother pulled him out and started homeschooling him. This year, she found out about this new school and came here.

The only person until now that he could consider a friend was Mirio Togata. Which was no surprise considering that everyone adored him but he always seemed to turn to Amajiki more often than not which he found odd. Why pick him out of everyone else in the class to hang out with?

Amajiki was keenly aware of his many flaws such as having so severe panic attacks and crying all the time it drew kids away from him.

But not Mirio. Strange.

Well at least his mother is happy that he finally has some sort of friend so he won't think too much about it lest he spiral again.

###################

Now in middle school Amajiki Tamaki can confidently say that Mirio is a friend. If only for the fact that now Mirio is being made fun of by the other people they once upon a time were friends with because of his Quirk and goal. To become a Pro-Hero.

Amajiki could understand considering he wanted to be a Pro-Hero as well even if he’ll crack under the pressure.

###################

They made it into the U.A. by some miracle and Amajiki might just be freaking out even more than usual. How did they let him in here? Was it some accident? It had to be. There was no way that he was supposed to be here.

Trying to pay attention in class he did his better coping skill with anxiety which was put your head down and it is like it never happened. It was weird to know about the fact that his anxiety was bad but it helps him be a good hero. Since he had gotten better at putting his head down so to speak he focuses on what he can do.

Not that his anxiety nowadays was about doing stressful things. It was more of the people looking at him that was making him anxious. But now if he throws himself in doing what needs to be done he can ignore the nagging feeling to go away.

It also helps that after the first day that he had a breakdown and Mirio tried to bring him to the Recovery Girl worried about his friend since he couldn’t calm him down himself. Granted, Mirio couldn’t take him since he was in Class 1-B and Amjiki was in Class 1-A somehow. But he tried to and that was what matters at least to Amajiki. Since he started the process and got in trouble for it, it was then when Nejire Hado from Class 1-A as well, came over worried about him.

“Hey, I am Nejire Hado. I was wondering if you are okay? I noticed that the blonde boy--he’s your friend right?--was trying to take you somewhere. Do you need help?” She asks so nicely and sweetly that Amajiki calmed down a bit. It reminded him of Mirio and his own mother when trying to help him calm down.

Amajiki tried opening his mouth to say something but he couldn’t get anything out. He felt his cheeks flush at the and he felt so embarrassed about his current circumstances. For some reason whenever he needed help he would cry most of the time about it even if it is just as simple as asking to go to the nurses office. He just nodded, feeling tears stinging his eyes.

“Okay let's go!” Nejire Hado said bringing him down despite not knowing him. They later became good friends. He had another person to lean on that was not Mirio but the feelings that he had were not the same between the two.

###################

Having made it to second year everything seemed easier and harder at the exact same time. It was an odd feeling of knowing what he needed to do to pass through life but still not knowing exactly what he was to do.

The odd thing was that he finally put a name to how he felt about Mirio. With the help of Nejire. Amajiki’s two friends got to know each other and became friends as well which was quite nice. But now Amajiki could talk about these types of things with someone since he did not feel like he could do so with Mirio. Neijre explained she felt the same about a girl that was in their year though Amajiki could not remember which class in their year that she was in but they bonded over being in love with a friend.

That was until Mirio asked him on a date mid way through the year. Amajiki still does not know how he was able to say yes to do so. It was nice.
