    “You didn’t come to dinner,” Caitlyn said softly, her voice careful as if she realised that she might have pushed Vi too far already.

    Vi turned back to the window, shrugging. Caitlyn noticed the tension in her shoulder. “I wasn’t hungry.”

    The lie sat heavy between them but Caitlyn didn’t press. She stepped into the room, and joined Vi by the window.
