Quiet Moment

Summary:

You involuntarily regress and can't seem to get yourself out of a negative headspace. Luckily, Lucifer is there to help.

An incredibly short one-shot that I wrote to cope with this past summer lol

Work Text:

Little huffs, kicky feet, pouting lip, and arms crossed. You're unsure why you're feeling so fussy. Perhaps it's just the stresses of life finally getting to you. Everything bad just seemed to happen to you, and for no good reason. You wished you could just shut your eyes and hide away from it all.

Which is exactly what you're doing now. You've created a large pile of your plushies and pillows and settled yourself in the center, hugging your favorite one tight to your chest. You squeeze your eyes closed, and curl into a ball trying to make yourself as small as possible.

Unfortunately, Lucifer seems to be missing you.

"Ducky? Where are you?" He calls out, walking past your room and spotting the gigantic pile of plush. His shoulders relax, having found you safe and sound. You listen as his boots click across the bedroom floor towards you.

"Is some bunny hiding from daddy?" His warm voice soothes you, prompting you to pop your head out.

"There you are!" He chirps with a giddy smile. "Is everything alright, darlin'?"

You bite your lip in a pout, adverting your gaze and huffing curtly. Though his smile remains, worry creases his brow as Lucifer runs the back of his palm across your cheek.

"You know you can talk to Daddy about anything, sweetheart." He reassures you. You lean into his touch and hum approvingly, his hand warm on your flesh.

The mattress dips as he sits himself down in front of you, careful not to knock over any of your stuffies. "Or we don't have to talk at all, if you don't want to." He offers.

You nod your head slowly, the idea of speaking aloud is just too much for you to bear at the moment, as if the tiniest squeak would cause a hole to open up and swallow you whole. You would much rather remain quiet for now.

Lucifer simply nods, his expression softening as he carefully begins to pick apart your little shield. It makes you nervous, but you allow him to continue. You know that you'll feel better in daddy's arms.

"There's my little bug." He utters softly once you're fully visible, his loving gaze trained on you. Instinctively, you reach out to him, hands making a grabby motion. He chuckles, and pulls you into his lap without question. Your wrap all four of your limbs around him like a koala hugging it's mother, pressing your face into his neck and wiggling in delight.

Lucifer giggles, carding through your hair with his fingers as he holds you. "Silly little duckling."

Finally, your nerves begin to settle as the weight on your shoulders start to lift. The gentle smell of apples and cinnamon fill your lungs as you take deep breaths. You're unsure if it's his body wash or a cologne, but he always kept an air of sweetness to him that made you think of autumn on Earth.

As your body relaxes, you find your eyelids becoming heavy and you start to doze off. Lucifer takes notice, and decides to tuck you into bed, handing you your favorite plush and patting your head.

"Rest your weary head, sweetheart. You're safe. Daddy will be here when you wake up."
