Thunder and Lightning

Summary:

It's winter, and of course the heating In Marvin and Whizzer's apartment has broken. Whizzer makes them hot chocolate while Marvin enjoys watching the thunder storm. Whizzer Is completely terrified of the Intense weather, but Marvin comforts him. And also talks way too much about why he loves bad weather.

Lazy uncreative title because It's 3am and I don't know what I'm doing

Notes:

Guess who rewatched Falsettos 3 times In the past few days and suddenly got dragged Into hyperfixation land 2 years after Initially watching the musical and kind of forgetting about It. Marvin has Implied autism. Also If I mischaracterised them at all you can stone me to death In the town square

Work Text:

The sky Is darkened with clouds and rain pitter patters against the window as Whizzer stands In the kitchen, mixing cocoa powder with hot water until the consistency Is right. He’s wearing an outfit that he would burn If he could, bundled up In one of Marvin’s ugly thick sweaters, a pair of jeans and hideous fluffy socks that Trina bought for him as a sign of peace.

The apartment Is nearly as cold as the outside world, thanks to the heating breaking out of nowhere. He hopes that the drink will warm him up. He drops a splash of milk In his mug of hot chocolate, then puts the carton back Into the fridge - as If leaving It on the freezing cold countertop would make It rot.

He picks up the two cups of hot chocolate In each hand, glaring at their ugly designs and taking a mental note to remind Marvin to wash the dishes so he doesn’t have to see these ones again. Marvin bought these cups from somewhere, or maybe he got them for free from someone - he wouldn’t be surprised If that were the case.

He steps out of the kitchen and Into the living room and sees the man sitting on the couch that faces the tv, though the screen remains black and Marvin Is Instead fixated on the Incredibly boring weather outside. Whizzer feels a small pang of love poke at his heart, but he pushes the feeling away and wanders Into the room, stopping next to the couch as he holds Marvin’s hot chocolate towards the man.

“Earth to Marvin? Helloo?" He raises an eyebrow at the man, and Marvin quickly turns to face him with a curious look that then turns Into a smile, he takes his mug with a thank you, before he then turns his head back to face the window.

Whizzer slowly takes a few steps back and shuffles sideways to stand behind the couch, looking down at the back of Marvin’s head and feeling a strong urge to tug at the wavy hair, though he resists. For now.

The temptation Is far too powerful, and he knows how much pleasure It would bring him to hear Marvin’s cry. He does his best to Ignore the thought.

“Why are you just watching the weather? What’s so fascinating about It?”

There Is a bit too much judgment In his voice, but Whizzer can hardly be blamed when Marvin Is acting so strange. It’s just clouds and rain, two of the most boring things In the world. Marvin might as well be watching paint dry.

“Isn’t the water cycle Interesting to you?” Marvin twists his torso around to look up at Whizzer, who gives him a confused stare, partially offended that Marvin would think that he’d find such a thing Interesting. “The sun’s energy heats up the water, which then begins to evaporate and turns Into water vapor. This vapor rises Into the air because Its molecules are smaller than the ones In the atmosphere, and so It’s less dense. The difference between densities means that the vapor Is sent higher Into the air, and since the altitude Is Increasing, the air pressure decreases and the temperature drops. The lower temperatures condense the water vapor and turn It back Into a liquid, which then will fall from the sky and create more bodies of water which will then repeat the cycle.”

Whizzer stares at him for a few moments. He’s still confused, but at least he tried his best to listen to Marvin and attempt to take In Information. “Yeah… vapor… and density.. temperature. Yep.” He nods as If anything makes sense.

“You paid way too much attention In geography.” Whizzer comments again, wondering how the man could survive the class without losing his mind from boredom. It’s kind of a talent that Marvin learned anything at all, then again he Is too Intelligent for Whizzer, so It adds up.

Before Marvin has the chance to respond, a sudden clap of thunder erupts from the sky and bursts Into their ear drums, followed by a flash of lightning. Whizzer doesn’t have the chance to stop himself from overreacting, and flinches away at the sounds.

Immediate embarrassment washes over him as he almost spills his hot chocolate all over himself In his panic, and he attempts to compose himself as Marvin gives him a weird look.

“Are you really scared of the storm?” Marvin teases, a small smirk appearing on his face when Whizzer frowns and looks away for a brief moment. “It’s not going to hurt you.” He rolls his eyes lightheartedly, and Whizzer wants even more to tug on the man’s hair, though this time he wants to make him hurt as punishment.

Whizzer gives him an agitated glare, but Is Interrupted as he’s about to give his response by another flash of lightning that Illuminates the room for half a second. Once again he flinches, his fury Immediately disappearing to be replaced by fear despite his Internal anger at himself. How pathetic.

He hadn’t realised he dropped his mug of hot chocolate on the floor until he noticed both of his hands were now grabbing on to the back of the couch. As he looks down, Marvin quickly places his hot chocolate onto the coffee table and twists himself around again. A look of concern now washes over his face, and he reaches one hand up to place over Whizzer’s.

His agitation now returning, Whizzer pulls away and folds his arms with a frown, turning his face away from Marvin.

“Hey, hey. I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were serious about being scared of the lightning.” Marvin quickly rises to his feet and takes a few steps towards Whizzer, though he gives him enough space for Whizzer to realise the man Is actually apologising. His shock quietly fades away as he sighs and succumbs to Marvin’s charms, holding his hand out for Marvin to grab.

He Is lead to the couch and they sit down together, and Whizzer Is almost relieved when Marvin doesn’t let go of him even once they’re sat. Their fingers slot together like a puzzle piece, but Whizzer doesn’t let that thought Into his mind for long before he looks back up at Marvin.

“It won’t hurt you.” The man says again, his eyes and words are full of sincerity, and he looks back at Whizzer with the biggest puppy dog eyes he has ever seen.

“Alright, alright. I know that. I’m not worried about getting hurt.” He grumbles, and Marvin leans forwards slightly until Whizzer can feel his warm breath on his lips.

Whizzer rolls his eyes and leans In to give him a quick peck, and the moment their lips touch another flash of lightning appears In the sky. Whizzer manages to keep himself from recoiling or physically reacting, though he still doesn’t like the flash of white, nor the thunder that follows It.

For a moment he thinks of how he and Marvin are similar to the two, one erupts In a flash of blinding fury, and the other chases behind them with a loud rebuttal.

Then he returns to reality and realises he has been staring at the window, and he turns back to Marvin again when he speaks.

“Do you want me to hug you?”

“No.”

Whizzer faces away again with a huff, turning up his nose, though he still squeezes Marvin’s hand In his own. The other man grabs his mug of hot chocolate from the coffee table and takes a sip, and Whizzer quickly turns back to him to clear his throat and catch Marvin’s attention.

Marvin gives him a lighthearted eye roll before he holds the mug to Whizzer’s lips and tips It Into his mouth. The liquid Is warm and sweet, though he hates the lack of extra milk. Marvin then brings the mug back to his own mouth and drinks again, before placing It back on the coffee table and chuckling a little at Whizzer.

“What?” He snaps, furrowing his eyebrows In confusion.

“You have some on your lip.”

“So do you.” Whizzer grumbles, then tries to lick his lips. Marvin shakes his head when he misses, but then surges forwards before Whizzer can try again, connecting their mouths and licking the rest of It off of his face.

He does his best not to react to the display of affection, and looks around the room as a distraction. “What’s so Interesting about lightning, then?”

There’s no way he’ll listen this time to anything Marvin has to say, but at least It will get the man talking and not trying to fluster him. At his question, Marvin’s eyes Immediately light up, which Whizzer sees out of the corner of his eye. He holds back his smile.

Marvin starts talking, and Whizzer tries his best to look Interested as he watches the man’s lips move. Marvin makes tons of hand motions and looks around the room wildly as he rants about how Interesting the science of lightning Is.

Whizzer lets out a yawn as the sound of Marvin’s voice begins soothing him. More thunder crashes and lightning explodes In the sky, but Whizzer keeps staring Into Marvin’s eyes.

He then slowly begins lowering his head until his temple Is resting on Marvin’s shoulder, the scratchy material of his sweater Irritating him for a moment. “I can’t believe I let you buy this thing. It’s ugly and has a weird texture.” He mutters In the middle of Marvin’s rambling.

Marvin stops, offended. “You told me you loved It.”

“I was lying.” Whizzer hums, bringing his legs up onto the couch as he curls up Into a ball and leans against Marvin.

The other man takes a moment to remember where he was before he continues his explanation of lightning, and why he loves bad weather.

Another flash of lightning explodes In his vision, but Whizzer doesn’t flinch at all this time.

He holds Marvin’s hand tighter In his own, and breathes deeply before letting out a sigh. Marvin’s voice reverberates throughout his body, and sends vibrations Into Whizzer’s ear. He hates to admit It, but he feels safe In the arms of his lover.

An even worse fact that he must admit: he’s starting to tolerate bad weather.

Loving It would be Impossible, but maybe he could learn to like It at least.

Maybe he can learn to love Marvin Instead.

Notes:

I'm so violent about them I hate them and I love them and I want them to be happy forever and I want to torment them for eternity. I've cried about them s much. I'm so hungry
