It was dark. Of course it was dark, he was dead. But if he was dead, then why were there voices?
Yushin looked around in confusion. Where was he? Is this heaven? Hell, even? He didn’t think he deserved to go to hell but who knew, really? “Focus.” He thought to himself, smacking his cheeks lightly before he went back to observing his surroundings. It almost seemed like he was in a void, only brightly colored streaks whizzing by in the distance.
The thing that really caught Yushin’s eye was the crumbling wall with a large vault door. He wandered towards it, wondering if he was being kept in or kept out of whatever was on the other side. The closer he got, the louder the voices became, even though they were still muffled by the door.
Out of pure curiosity, Yushin decided to try to push open the door, figuring that he was already dead so what was the worst that could happen? With a loud grating creak, the door swung open on rusted hinges, almost as if it had never been opened before. The voices went silent, making Yushin doubt his choice but he continued forward nonetheless.
Stepping out from behind the vault door, he was greeted by seven and a half pairs of eyes all staring at him with great confusion and an unhealthy amount of suspicion. There were eight chairs all lined up around a long table, oddly colored cards scattered around the surface. An awkward grin came on to his face as he offered a slight wave, his bangs falling into his face from the movement.
“Uh, hello?” He offered, having to clear his throat due to the disuse of his voice. Before he could utter out another word, he was suddenly shoved up against the wall by a tall bald man. He grunted in pain and squinted up at the stranger who towered above him.
“Who are you? And how did you manage to find this place?” The man sneered, leaning in close to Yushin’s face. Unable to lean back, he just shrugged as best as he could, glancing back towards the vault door.
“I’m not sure,” Yushin said truthfully. “At least, I’m not sure how I got here. My name is Yushin Hisaka. It’s, uh, a pleasure to meet you..?” He offered, trying to get the man’s name to no avail. A blonde haired man with two cracking scars on his face walked up to the bald man, resting a hand on his shoulder.
“Banjo,” The man said calmly. “Let go of him. Danger Sense isn’t going off so clearly, he is no threat.” ‘Banjo’ just grunted and pushed off of Yushin, almost seeming as if he was pouting as he headed back to his seat at the table. Yushin turned his attention to a short white haired man who walked up next, a bit discomforted from the grin on the other man’s face.
“Sorry about Banjo,” The short man apologized. “He can be a bit rough sometimes. My name is Yoichi Shigaraki. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Yushin!” Yoichi reached forward and wrapped both of his hands around one of Yushin’s. Yushin returned the grin and gently shook Yoichi’s hand.
“The pleasure’s all mine! And I don’t take any offense. I understand what it’s like to have someone you don’t know suddenly infiltrate your space.” A shiver ran down Yushin’s spine but he pushed it down. He looked around once more at everyone sat at the table. “So, where am I, exactly? Is this heaven?”
Yoichi laughed and let go of Yushin’s hand. “If this is heaven then we aren’t quirk ghosts!” The man snickered before shaking his head. “No, this isn’t heaven. It’s a bit of a long story but basically, you’re inside of a quirk.” Yoichi gave Yushin a sympathetic look even as Yushin tried to process what he had been told.
“Inside of a quirk?” Yushin ran a hand down his face, trying to think of what to say. “I guess my first question would be what’s a quirk?” Yoichi looked taken aback for a second before it dawned on the shorter man.
“Oh, you must have been around near the dawn of quirks! That’s what meta abilities are called nowadays. Speaking of, what is your quirk? I have a guess but it would be nice to hear from you.” Yoichi hummed, looking up at Yushin who just gave a shrug.
“I didn’t really get to see what my meta ability - er, quirk - did. Though the doctors at the time said I might have some sort of stockpiling ability.” Yoichi’s eyes lit up for a moment before they dimmed in realization.
“That would make sense. Right before you died, did some tall white haired guy come up to you?” Yushin looked at Yoichi in surprise, offering a nod. “Yes! How did you know?”
Yoichi sighed and ran a hand down his face. “That was my brother.. He stole your quirk and forced it onto me. He didn’t know that I had a quirk at the time so after I gained your quirk, our quirks kinda just.. Melded together.” Yushin looked a little shocked, just humming slightly as he came to terms with what happened.
Yushin looked around at the table once more, taking a good look at everyone he could see. “So then how did all of these people get here? Did their quirks get taken and merged with yours?”
Yoichi bit his lip and glanced around at the others as well. “Kind of.. My quirk is a transference quirk, meaning that it can be passed down to other people. So, it got passed around to all of these people.” He named them all in order, including what their quirks were. “All with the intent of putting an end to my brother.”
Yushin nodded along, smiling sadly at all of the different people as they were introduced. “So.. You’re all dead too?” Getting small nods, he continued. “If we’re all still around then there must be another user, right?” At his question, Yoichi perked up once more, that grin returning to his face.
“Ninth! Yes! He’s quite the talented young man. Speaking of which, next time we summon him here, we should introduce you both! For now though..” Yoichi turned to the table, a considering look on his face. “We need another chair And another set of cards for you.”
Izuku awoke in One For All once more. Something that was becoming more common these days. He took a few moments to acclimate himself once more to the feeling of the void covering his body before he looked up at the table, only to be surprised to find another chair set up at the head of the table next to First. Izuku squinted a bit, trying to get a better look of the newcomer before he was startled out of his thoughts when his name was called.
“Ninth! I’m glad you’re here!” Yoichi called out, standing from his seat and walking around the table to stand by Izuku’s side. “We made quite the discovery since you were last here! Come!” Izuku could do nothing but follow as Yoichi reached into the void covering his body and grabbed his hand, practically dragging him to the extra seat. “Izuku, look! This is Yushin Hisaka! He’s technically also the first user of One For All! He was the one who had the stockpiling quirk my brother gave to me.”
Izuku’s eyes went wide as he observed the man sitting in the chair. He had short brown hair with striking blue eyes. The man grinned up at him, offering a hand. “Nice to meet you, Ninth! As First said, I’m Yushin Hisaka. You can just call me Yushin, though.” Yushin paused when Izuku offered him a sheepish grin, unable to move his hands out of the void. He just laughed good naturedly and turned back to the table. “Why don’t you join us in a round of Uno? We just got another one started.”
Izuku had so many questions about this new person but because he wasn’t able to speak quite yet in the void, he just sat down next to the All Might vestige and gathered some cards. Well, if he’s going to be trapped in here with eight and a half ghosts, he might as well make the best of it by winning some Uno.
