Her father gave her a soft smile, one that did not quite reach his eyes. “The Jung family is a good match, but…are you happy, my daughter?”
She observed her father now, at how his fingers were stained with black dried ink from hours of scrubbing down his ink stone, the lines etched into the corners of his mouth from all the laughter he had done, and how the years had aged the rest of him.
“Yes, papa,” Rumi said finally, choosing to call him his more endearing title. The ends of her words now were threads of pillowy cotton, well-worn and loved. “Jung Jinu is a good man, and more importantly, he has always been a good friend.”
