What? You Scared?

Summary:

“If you don’t want to watch a scary movie, we don’t have to, but I just want to put something on!”
That seemed to click something in Bakugo, because instead of his usual indifferent frown that he typically wore during movie nights, his eyes had been lit by the prospects of a challenge. “What?” He growled, “Think I’m too scared?”
Kirishima would be lying if he said he wasn’t teasing Bakugo just a little, but the man had put him through hell trying to choose a damn movie. He could indulge in a little payback

Work Text:

“What about this one?” Kirishima paused, staring at Bakugo to answer his question. He had come over for a movie night, but Kirishima couldn’t seem to find a movie the guy actually wanted to watch. The pair had been scrolling Netflix for about half an hour, Bakugo rejecting a movie every time Kirishima stopped on one to read the details.

“No. Looks stupid,” Bakugo said at the movie Kirishima had asked him about. The cover held the silhouettes of two people, backlit by a streetlight. It looked like it might be a tad scary, but Kirishima didn’t mind, plus it had some great reviews, but obviously that wasn’t enough for Bakugo to spend his time on it.

Kirishima rolled his eyes. He loved hanging out with Bakugo, but moments like these reminded him why he could be a bit… difficult at times.

“Listen man,” Kirishima said, facing Bakugo fully now, “If you don’t want to watch a scary movie, we don’t have to, but I just want to put something on!”

That seemed to click something in Bakugo, because instead of his usual indifferent frown that he typically wore during movie nights, his eyes had been lit by the prospects of a challenge. “What?” He growled, “Think I’m too scared?”

Kirishima immediately brought his hands up in defense, “Nah dude! It just doesn’t seem like you wanna watch anything, especially not a scary movie!” Kirishima would be lying if he said he wasn’t teasing Bakugo just a little, but the man had put him through hell trying to choose a damn movie. He could indulge in a little payback

Bakugo shifted towards Kirishima, getting closer to him and making the bed below them shift and change in response. It was pretty typical for them to do their movie nights in one of their rooms, and this time it was Kirishima’s turn.

Before Kirishima could register the movement, Bakugo had stolen the remote and clicked play on the movie he had just rejected. He slumped down in his spot as the eerie music of the movie began to play.

But there was one problem.

Since Bakugo had snatched the remote from Kirishima’s hands, he was sitting much closer to the red head now– closer than they usually sat during their movie nights. Close enough, that every now and then, Bakugo would shift the upper half of his body, brushing against Kirishima’s shoulders in the process.

The action made Kirishima grow tense, unintentionally memorizing every light touch he felt, and feeling guilty in the process.

“Oi,” Bakugo said, breaking Kirishima out of his stupor, “It’s been 20 minutes, and you haven’t made one shitty comment about the movie! What’s wrong?”

Shit! Kirishima thought. Had a whole 20 minutes of the movie gone by already? He hadn’t processed a single frame, thinking far more about his grumpy crush sitting beside him. He had to think of some kind of excuse. But his mind went blank– simply replaying the same gentle touches he had been thinking about for the last… well, 20 minutes, apparently.

“Um.. well,” Kirishima began to stammer out, “It’s just cold, ya know? Can’t focus much when I’m shivering.” It wasn’t a lie. Kirishima was cold. Maybe not freezing cold like he had insinuated, but he couldn’t deny his fingers and toes were chilling with the cold air, even if his face and ears were the warmest they had been all day.

Suddenly, Kirishima felt a soft, warm fabric splayed across his lap. His bed’s comforter that he had removed before starting the movie was laying on top of him now. Kirishima shifted to look over at Bakugo, who was making his way inside the comforter as well.

Bakugo caught the man’s stare. For a single moment, Bakugo’s face displayed a serene and blank expression– complete calm enrapturing him. It was moments like that that reminded Kirishima why he fell for the blonde. He’ll try his best to show a tough and uncaring persona, but on the inside he’s kind in such subtle ways, always seeming to know how to fill Kirishima’s every need.

But the moment was just that: a moment, and suddenly Bakugo had replaced that serene look with his usual scowl. “Dumbass, it’s your room. You can warm yourself up easily.”

Kirishima chuckled at Bakugo’s bluntness, reeling his head back a bit and closing his eyes, warmth buzzing in his chest and warming his heart. As beautiful as Bakugo was in such a serene state, Kirishima couldn’t deny that the scowling, angry wonder in front of his was who he really fell for.

Before Kirishima could open his eyes, he suddenly felt a soft touch wrap around his shoulder. The touch shocked him back, and he looked up at Bakugo– or tried to at least– because as he did so, the blonde was already pulling him into his chest, close enough for Kirishima to lay his head by the loud beating of his heart.

It all happened so fast. Kirishima didn’t even have time to respond before he was laying on Bakugo’s chest, vision obscured from the tv. He felt his breath drop, low and heavier breaths leaving his lungs, and suddenly his body felt very sleepy. The warm environment mixed with the comfortable feel of Bakugo’s chest was the perfect recipe to shut down Kirishima’s body and fall completely asleep.

“...okay?” Kirishima heard his crush mutter above him as the red head’s eyes fluttered, attempting to stay open.

Kirishima, unintentionally nuzzled closer, burying his face into the blonde’s chest and letting out a low hum, as if he was a cat purring for his owner. “...yeah,” he finally responded.

There was a release below him, as if Bakugo had been holding his breath, waiting for Kirishima to allow him to relax into the touch as well.

Kirishima felt the touch of rough hands trailing up and down his back, making their way to his freshly washed hair. One found its home in a clump of soft hair, combing through it and lightly scratching at the scalp. While the other hand rested on Kirishima’s forearm– which had wrapped itself around Bakugo’s waist at some point. His thumb caressed over the skin, touch as soft as possible, tickling the small hairs that laid there.

Kirishima’s eyes fluttered closed. His breath slowed, and he could no longer hear the movie playing in the background. Instead, drifting off into a sweet dream, being lulled to sleep by the gentle touches Bakugo graciously gave him.

When Kirishima finally awakened from his slumber, he no longer felt a warm embrace. Instead, he found himself laying alone in his room, cuddled to the blanket. The only light that seeped into the room being the fast approaching sun, ready to turn night into day.

Kirishima groaned and checked his phone, finding a few messages from Bakugo.

Bakugo: More comfortable sleeping in my room.

Bakugo: You need to get more sleep if you’re falling asleep during a movie.

Bakugo: Idiot!

Bakugo: Movie night in my room tonight. Don’t be late.

Kirishima couldn’t help the wide grin that found its way across his face. He was just a boy in love. Really, could anyone blame him?
