Chapter Text
It wasn't so bad.
If you look at it, she was only a couple of points off, it would barely affect her overall average, and she can always do a presentation to bring her grades up, or study extra hard for the next test. This is something she could fix.
And it was still a good grade, higher than average. Even if the topic was not her strongest suit, she still did well in everything else to compensate.
And it's not like she didn't prepare. She was just distracted, that's all. She just started the next Azura book and she just reached the good part and at the moment she couldn't think of anything else- but that wasn't an excuse and Amity knew it.
"I am quite disappointed in you, Amity."
"It's not that bad," Amity tried to defend herself, because, really it wasn't that. "I just missed two things, I will pay more attention next time."
It was as if she hadn't even said anything. Odalia gazed down at her report card with a carefully measured expression. Amity could tell that she wasn't impressed and didn't care for her excuses. So she stopped speaking and folded her hands together behind her back.
"Not that bad? Amity, this is tardiness. How do you think this is going to reflect on you?"
"...Bad."
"I would expect something like this from Edric, maybe even Emira on a bad day," Odalia sighed. "But this is you who we are talking about, Amity."
She tried to push down a bitter pang of jealousy. Her siblings never got into this much trouble for a bad grade. But then again, they aren't the top students in their tracks, they aren't apprenticing for Lilith Clawthorne, are they?
"You are talented, dear. And by the Titan, I will not let you squander it."
"It won't happen again."
"It shouldn't have happened to begin with," she sighed and rubbed her temple.
Amity bit her lip. She hated being on this end of her mother's attention. It was so humiliating and over a little slip-up. At least Edric and Emira weren't around to witness it, they would surely make fun of her for it.
"You know I hate doing this to you," Odalia continued. "But if this happens again, I will have to take away those silly little books of yours."
She looked to the side, pulling up her shoulders. Amity's checks turned red, she wasn't supposed to know about those, but she should have known better than to expect her to not know. She always figures it out, sooner or later.
"I hope it doesn't have to come to that."
Amity shook her head. "No, it won't."
"I expect nothing less."
She nodded because there was nothing to say. Amity got her report card back, and with it, she rushed back to her room.
