Work Header

aren't her eyes beautiful?

Summary:

"You cold now?" She asks playfully, knowing that your statement earlier wasn't true. Her arms slide around your torso and to your back, squeezing slightly.

"Well, let me adapt to your body heat for a second, and I won't be," you say, going along with your earlier lie.

Eventually, silence rings in your ears before both of you burst into laughter for no exact reason. Soon, the laughter dies down after a couple of moments, and you finally lock gazes with Sevika.

And that's where she looks away.

Notes:

loosely inspired by the Ambessa and Sevika scene where Sev IMMEDIATELY looked away after Ambessa looked in her direction.

also for a friend. freak

FYI; this isn't proofread, nor is it meant to be THAT taken seriously??? idk I'm really gay and I like Sevika. And Arcane women. yeah

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It's been a tiring, long day for Sevika.

After dealing with Silco all day, being by his side, and having to kill Finn during one of their conferences (and efficiently spooking his mother while at it; well, rightfully so), then going to the Last Drop for a few hours... her energy is drained.

Usually, her social battery is a bit high, considering she needs to interact with people, but today was officially one of her off days.

It should be, anyway.

She shoves the door to her shared apartment open, pushing her hair back and out of her face. The condo was nice and warm, much unlike the temperature outside. It was getting far too cold for her usual attire.

Her shoulders slump as she walks to her—or, technically both of your—bedroom, praying in the back of her mind that you're awake.

She'd love to see your beautiful face after a long day. That's what usually happens.

Thankfully, her prayers are heard, and she sees you lying down on her bed, clothes slightly wrinkly probably from lying down all day. Your face brightens, sitting up in the bed, "Hey, evening," you greet, subconsciously leaning in her direction like she had a faint magnetic field. "You okay? How'd your day go?"

A smile tugs at her lips and she nods, her gaze softening upon seeing you but subtly diverting for a few seconds.

You're the only one that makes her like this. All soft and sappy and mushy. She'd definitely complain about it at one point, just not now, even though she's in a very complaining mood.

Eventually, she then realizes she still has articles of armor on her body. Her smile drops, sighing at the thought of having to stay away from you any further than she already did. You notice her expression changing as she turns away—of course, you do—and pout.

"Are you sure you're okay?"

Sevika grunts, "Yeah. No—yeah, I'm fine, baby. I just wanna be closer to you, so I'll get this shit off me and be in bed in no time."

You laugh softly at her words, watching her disrobe and hearing the soft clinks of metal and rustling of leather as armor hits the ground, as well as her cape that she seems to keep on at all times. She wouldn't want to say it out loud, but she may have an attachment clothing. Now she's only in clothing that closely resembles tunics and baggy pants, which make you roll your eyes.

With a giggle, you tease, "Not thinking of getting in bed like that, are you?" Of course, you're kidding, it's only the fact her place is already warm, and you wouldn't want to start randomly sweating while cuddling with her.

Sevika chuckles as she opens a wardrobe, grabbing a loose tee and shorts. "Mmm, wouldn't dream of it. Well—maybe I would, could you let a woman dream for once?"

You roll your eyes, "As long as I'm not overheating in that dream, you can imagine whatever you want in Lala-land."

She huffs a laugh through her nose and changes into her clothes, dusting them off for no exact reason and heading to where you were—she'd call it home, only because you're lying on the bed, but she barely sleeps (and spends little time in her own home), and when she does, she's out like a light. Your presence is comforting to her. It's (almost) like falling asleep with a weighted stuffed animal tucked under your arm when you sleep.

Finally, she's smiling again, her eyes analyzing you and your expression and how you must feel.

Unbeknownst to her, you're doing the same.

You think she's gorgeous. No, scratch that—you know she's gorgeous. Everyone else should, too, but she'd probably get unreasonably mad if anyone else called her conventionally attractive. After all, it's you she truly listens to, outside of Silco (considering she has to).

Your eyes take in everything she gives you. Her brown skin, her grey eyes, her stringy black hair, the way her hips just barely sway as she walks, the large steps she takes, and how little time it takes to get where she needs to be. It's all mundane and very intricate, but it's something you love about her and she's hopefully here for it.

"Now come here," you whisper, holding your arms out to her and making a grabby-hand motion. "I'm cold," a lie, "and I miss you." The truth.

Your girlfriend snorts and shakes her head, climbing into the shared bed and immediately wrapping her arms around you. The copper of her prosthetic arm is surprisingly warm—you'd expect it to be cold—but maybe it's the constant Shimmer flowing through it to make it match her body temperature. Now that you think about it closely, it makes a lot of sense.

Sevika's position changes, pulling you with her while it does. She moves to lie on her back, making you messily lie on top of her. Your legs briefly tangle with hers before she chuckles into your ear and (tries to) keep you flat against her.

Soon, the laughter dies down after a couple of moments and you finally lock gazes with Sevika.

And that's where she looks away.

It almost looks like she wanted to gasp, but didn't, and is actively trying to compose herself. That's not like her at all, to look away while you look at her. Usually, she'd hold your gaze longest and you'd be the one to look away.

Maybe it's just the mood of the room or the general vibes. You don't know but you most certainly do care, however, you feel like asking your girlfriend if everything's okay would make her deflect the situation and start an entire topic out of awkwardness.

But God, was she cute. You'd almost always refer to her as 'sexy' or 'gorgeous', not 'cute'. It was weird to call her, a thirty-three-year-old woman, who is also an Enforcer, cute. It was kind of something forbidden, given she didn't like being seen as something remotely adorable, but you'd keep that thought in your head.

For now, at least.

All you do is look up at her and smile. It widens into a grin and you giggle, "I love you, Sev. A lot."

Sevika huffs, "I love you, too. You know that, right? I love you more than anything."

Oh, you know she loves you. She tells it to you every time she sees you, and tries her best to show it to you. Even if it was by gifts, doing something (small or big) for you, or even something physical.

Anything she'd give, you'd take. It was as simple as that.

You can't help but crack a small joke, "Is that why you looked away from me? Didn't even do much that time."

Now she's glaring at you, her facial features accentuating slightly.

"Hey! What's with that face? Don't get mad at me, I'm sorry!"

It's a bit funny, how expressive she is; despite her frown, she smiles in a matter of seconds and shakes her head. She lets her head fall back onto the pillow beneath her head, resting her neck and letting her hair splay beneath her. "Apology considered."

"Considered?!" Your eyebrows are pinched together now, shifting your body upward to level your face with hers, cupping her face with your hands. Her skin is rough but she's soft to you and that's all that matters.

Your girlfriend cocks a brow,  "Considered. Give me three business days, maybe two, and a coffee break, then I'll tell you if I forgive you."

"Why in God's name do you need a coffee break? Three business days isn't enough?" You huff, pinching her cheek before she grunts in disapproval and you grin.

"Hey, aren't I a busy woman? Coffee would be nice." Sevika leaned in and pressed a kiss to the tip of your nose, which left you with your lips puckered, thinking she was going to give you a proper kiss. She holds back a laugh, her throat making a silent snrk noise.

"You're a busy woman with a girlfriend, I think coffee could wait," you try to ignore the fact that she left you hanging, leaning in at your own time and kissing her. Her lips are slightly chapped and a bit rough, but there's a lingering softness as your lips stay pressed to hers.

The kiss lingers for a few seconds longer until you pull away, having to catch your breath. You didn't want to—you could go hours doing nothing but kissing and feeling her body against yours—but you're sure Sevika is tired and would want you to leave her alone.

Not too much, though. You know she enjoys your presence.

When she looks at your face, her gaze trailing lower, watching how your chest rises and falls against hers as you take breaths, she can't help but bite the inside of her lip. She's always loved your body, no less how much it felt against hers. She'll say it time and time again but she's just as addicted to you as she is going to the Last Drop. It's almost the highlight of her day—coming in close with you.

You're the highlight of every time of the day—morning, noon, afternoon, and night. Even if she doesn't see you during most of those hours, you can make everything better with just a few words.

After she shakes herself out of her thoughts, she immediately realizes your hands are still on her face. She takes this as an advantage and closes her eyes, leaning into your palm like a needy dog—which she absolutely isn't, mind you, but she could probably act like one in the blink of an eye.

Her face looks adorable. Sure, it was mentioned earlier that it's odd to consider her as such, but just imagine it! Her face being held in the palm of her partner... how else would you describe it? Sexy and seductive? Yeah, maybe some people would say that, but that's definitely not the case.

"I missed you a lot today," you muttered, trying to start up a conversation.

Sevika opens her eyes and gives you a look, her eyebrows slightly pinched together as if to tell you to be quiet.

You get the hint and giggle, moving your head to rest in the crook of her neck with the tip of your nose pressing against her skin.

Her real arm moves up and goes to your head, putting a hand to your hair and picking through it with two or three of her fingers. It's a comfortable feeling, kind of like a mother bird preening her young. Odd comparison, but it's close enough.

"I love you," Sevika reminds you the second time today, "you're dear to me. So, so dear to me. I'd do anything for you."

Her head tilts to the side—the side where your head is placed—so you can hear her better.

"Did you hear me?" She asks, her voice softer than it was before.

You give a soft nod, and you hope she doesn't feel the wide grin on your lips. "I hear you, Sev, I love you, too."

She smiles at you, pressing a kiss to your forehead.

A few moments pass, which feel like just about fifteen to twenty minutes of comfortable silence, and she twirls a curl of your hair around her finger to get your attention.

"You sleepy?" She's only asking because you're very quiet and your breath is beginning to even out. That, and your body feels a bit heavy on her, like you're putting all of your weight on top of her without any effort.

Eventually, you give a nod. It's not surprising, since it's almost eight at night. The problem is that she's going to be awake all night, doing nothing but probably reading and definitely holding you like you're made of glass.

"Then go ahead and sleep. I'll be here."

And you don't have to tell her twice. You didn't even have to tell her, actually, because your body language speaks louder than words.
