The wind whipped at my curls, dragging them back and occasionally having blonde locks switch sides. I was lucky to have short enough hair for this not to be a problem.
Nico, on the other hand, was not. His hair, much in need of a haircut, was being blown straight into his eyes. He cursed as we pedaled our bikes towards Percy’s apartment.
Finally, we stopped as Nico swerved just in time to not hit a fire hydrant.
“Okay, we need a hair tie. Please tell me you have one,” I pleaded.
He glared at me from under his mop of hair.
“Okay. Um...” I pulled my lip between my teeth and started chewing. I really needed to quit the habit. I opened my medical bag of magic and hoped that a hair tie would be inside.
I smothered my laugh when I looked at the finished product of Nico. The only hair tie I could find was a present I received from one of the younger campers. It was a beautiful scrunchie with pink being the base color and black hearts dotting it. It just didn’t fit Nico.
It sat directly on top of his head since it was the only place where all the hair could reach.
“I am losing my street cred by just standing here,” he mumbled under his breath.
I just laughed and mounted my bike. It felt like the perfect day to inhale the smells of New York with my boyfriend.
