Summary
Will is fully expecting Mike to pull back once they’re in front of the others again.
He wouldn’t blame him; Mike has a tendency to dive into things headfirst without thinking about the consequences, and then freak out once he’s neck-deep with nowhere else to go but forward. But the carefully crafted, casual distance that Will is expecting doesn’t come. Mike pretty much glues himself to Will’s side. The only thing that might actually be more incriminating is if he decided to hold Will’s hand.
Shamefully, Will kind of wishes he would.

In which Max is awake, no one is telling the full truth about what they've been through in the Upside Down, and Will deals with the fact that Mike Wheeler is, apparently, the clingiest person known to man (and does absolutely nothing to stop him from being so).

He knows, Mike thinks, gaze finding Will’s still form in his mother’s arms just a couple feet away. They’d both been hovering a few feet in the air, one of Will’s hands still on Mike’s shoulder and both their eyes rolled back. Mike had seen it, dragged along towards the portal where Will refused to let go of his hand. Even now, one of Will’s hands is still stretched towards Mike, fingertips just barely brushing his ankle. Mike has the absurd urge to shove Lucas off of him, shove Mrs. Byers off of Will, and wrap his arms around Will himself.
He has another urge to run far, far away.

Summary
Will Byers can survive monsters, the military, and the Upside Down. What he can’t survive is Mike Wheeler paying attention.
With Hawkins still bleeding under the surface, Will falls back on rules: routines, distance, silence. Anything that keeps him from wanting too much and keep his secrets safe.
But Mike keeps stepping over the lines Will draws, gentle and stubborn, until the only rule left is the one Will's been avoiding for years: tell the truth.

Mike wakes up sick, and Will skips class to help take care of him.

Will hands him the water and the pills. Mike takes them without complaint, tossing the pills back quickly before taking a long, grateful drink. He eyes the cough syrup next, nose wrinkling, then shakes his head. Cute. Will shakes his head.
“I’m not drinking that.” Mike nearly grunts.
Will snorts softly. “It was just in case anyway.” He sets the bottle gently on Mike’s nightstand.
When he turns back, the red digits of the alarm clock glare at him.
7:58.
“Shit,” he mutters under his breath. His class starts at 8:15. He still had to shower and eat and–
Mike’s hand closes around his wrist, his skin burning hot against Will’s.
“Don’t go, Will.”
Mike says his name like a gentle prayer, and Will’s heart stutters against his ribs.
It really doesn’t take much convincing. He hates math anyway.
“Okay,” he says quickly. “Okay. I won’t.”

"Well, um. He's pretty." Will says, giving Mike a quick glance before turning back to Lucas. "Really pretty."
That's.. vague. Mike doesn't know what to do with that information.
"Will. Come on!" Dustin protests. "We need more than that. Like a hair or eye color. Do we even know him?"
"Okay, fine," Will huffs, trying to hide the smirk growing on his face, but failing miserably. "He has dark curly hair and dark brown eyes." He pauses, then adds: "You guys might know him."
OR: Mike Wheeler isn't completely sure who Will's mystery crush is. However, he does have a working theory about who it might be.
