    Canute isn't the same wide-eyed boy anymore. Something happened, made him harden his heart. His talk about a utopia on Earth may not be possible, but he is determined to make it happen. To Askeladd, he didn't need more than that. He almost believed in Canute, when the boy got that "look" in his eye. It might all be worthless in the end, but he'd rather die in service to a boy like Canute than a tyrant man like Sweyn.

    At this point, if he can't do anything but kill, then he can choose why he does it. Now, he does it to protect Canute. One day, once Canute is made king, he might be able to put away his sword.
