PSYC 3006 - Research Methods and Data Analysis II

An alarming lack of compassion and sympathy from this guy. Truly a deadbeat professor: the TAs teach the labs, which does not make them any easier. Your only form of contact is email with a sprinkle of attitude, real life sightings are rare and should be bewared.

PSYC 3006 - Research Methods and Data Analysis II

This one-credit lab has no right to take up the amount of time that it does. The uninspiring tasks and convoluted lab instructions are enough to dishearten the most obedient of students. It's a shame that psychology credit does not exempt suffering from Crane. If God created pain so we can feel pleasure, Crane must be His proudest creation.

Blunt, but brilliant. As long as you do the work and don't show weakness you'll be fine in his class - I'm convinced the guy can smell fear.

PSYC 1010 - Introductory Psychology

I genuinely couldn't think of a worse professor to teach an introductory course. His lectures consist of bizarre tangents that don't prepare you for his twistedly hard exams. Crane also doesn't believe in curves, and I suspect he actively deflates students' grades for his personal enjoyment. Don't bother asking him for help unless you feel like being condescended to.

Terrifying class. You actually learn a ton out of how labs work, error propagation, and everything else, but the way that it is taught is highly dependent on the Lab TAs you get. My lab TAs weren't bad, and I think that if you take this class, in order to do well, you need to ask TAs all the questions you can. Unfortunately, the grading TAs seem to be trained to grade as sadistically as possible. You could submit a Nobel prize-winning paper and get a 60 on the lab report. For Crane himself - it's hard to tell whether the professor has a vendetta against his students or just hates his job. He is extremely unapproachable (no office hours, doesn't respond to many emails, etc.) so don't bother seeking help from him.

PSYC 2410 - Abnormal Psychology

I know Crane is a polarizing figure in the department, but he truly shines in Abnormal Psychology. The difference in his lectures from Intro to Psychology class to this like night and day. Once you've gotten past the fact that the guy only cares about his research (and if you weren't weeded out) he's highly knowledgeable and passionate about behavioral psychology.

I'm writing this less to tell you anything that hasn't already been said and more as therapy for me to exorcise the nightmares of this class from my brain.

This will be the most unjustifiably difficult and most deeply unsatisfying B you will ever receive in any class, period. If your lab group includes the second coming of Albert Einstein (one guy in my section filled up two blackboards with uncertainty propagations every class and his group was ready to build a statue to him by the end of the semester), you'll be fine. If you're stuck with normal, fallible human beings who are swamped by the rest of their courseload, godspeed. Jonathan Crane puts in an appearance about once a month to remind you that he exists and is just as terrifying as you remembered him, but other than that, he has close to zero involvement in the class. Just work your butt off, try to avoid making Crane mad, get a half decent grade, and then scrub this class from your memory.

If GSU cared at all about their psychology department they would fire Crane. The amount of prospective majors I've seen be turned away by this class is genuinely ridiculous - just take it over the summer and transfer the credit.

Ignore the negative reviews here: Crane is by far one of the most engaging professors I've had. He's tough but fair, the only people failing his classes are those who don't put any effort into their work. Stop complaining! Go to his office hours if you're struggling. He can be cold but he's pretty funny, and okay you got me: he's hot!!

This course is best represented by imagining yourself as a medieval peasant being shoved into a brazen bull. Crane has a special talent for cultivating misery, and gets butthurt if you question him, his teaching methods, or his borderline masochist exams. I would genuinely rather be shoved into a meat grinder than take Crane.

Does anybody else think that Crane has fallen off the deep end recently? He's always been creepy, but today he fired a gun in class. Does this guy have tenure?? How this allowed?

Believe it or not, most of these reviews are directly inspired by certain professors in my major's department.
