Humiliating.
It was all so utterly humiliating. As if there were not enough earthly misfortunes to befall him, he was now also at the mercy of inexplicably impossible woes. He had wished for a new life, to step out of ‘his’ shadow. Finally to be Matthias’ turn in the sun. Yet like a wicked monkeys paw, his wish became a stifling curse. What other proof would one need that he was naught but the sorry plaything for a cruel god, he himself the true puppet, meant to suffer for the amusement of something cosmically ungraspable.
