Work Text:
It's was Christmas morning. Buck got out of bed and went down to the kitchen. He was passing the living room when he saw them, the presents. He had never seen so many before. His adoptive parents come down and stand beside him, Maddie following.
"Evan, what's wrong?" their dad asks.
"Those presents, who are those presents for?"
"well dear, there for you and your sister."
He slowly walks into the room taking it all in. The decorations, the tree, the food, the warmth from the fireplace, all of it, he had never felt so happy. He snuggles on the couch with Maddie and waits for his parents. They come back with stockings full to the brim with sweets and chocolates. As he rummages through to see what he got he sees his parents grinning wide smiles at them.
When he puts the stocking down they give Maddie and Buck their first present each. As they open them their parents take photos, grinning cheerfully. Buck rips if the wrapping paper and looks at the t-shirt he got. On the front it had a picture of an astronaut teddy bear. He was so happy, he never got good clothes, just old ragged t-shirts and ripped jeans from the neighbours. He never had his own clothes. He looks to Maddie who smile is bigger than he has ever seen. He smiles with her. As his eyes start to water he jumps of the couch, rushing to hug his parents. That's when he realises.
This is what a real family feels like.
