If He Had Listened To Me

Summary:

Jack’s life from “If He Had Been With Me” before Finn dies. It starts with him first meeting Finn, and ends with Jack waking up to Lexi’s phone call telling him that Finn is dead. There will be flash-forward scenes where things are explained to Jack that he didn’t know during Finn’s life. (Work in progress. I’ll try to post regularly.)

Chapter 1: MEETING FINN

Summary:

Jack met Finn for the first time

Notes:

This is the first chapterrrr! I’m working on the next right now, it’s gonna be a lot longer than this one and hopefully better. This is probably gonna be my least favorite chapter, lmk if there’s any typos/anything that contradicts the book. Thanks for reading!

Chapter Text

CHAPTER ONE

MEETING FINN

Phineas Smith was my first true friend. I was always the awkward kid, and nobody wanted to talk to me. When I walked into middle school for the first time, I was fucking terrified. I’m not the type of person to be brave enough to go up to someone and talk to them, but that’s kind of an essential skill to not suffer all throughout school.

I remember the first time I saw Finn. We had first period gym together, and we played a game with some other boys. I used it to distract myself from worrying about the rest of the day.

At lunch, my worst fear was coming true. I was at a lunch table, alone. Some other people were sitting there, but all of them had at least one friend with them.

When Finn sat down next to be, I knew I couldn’t fuck this up.

”What’s your name?”

I already knew his name, but it would be weird to not ask and call him by it before he introduced himself.

“Finn. You’re Jack, right?”

Guess I didn’t need to ask if he knew mine too. Probably got it from the gym teach taking attendance, just like how I learned his name.

”Yeah,”

There was an awkward silence as I tried finding something to say.

”You like soccer?”

I felt so much relief what Finn screamed “YES!” It would be weird to have a friend who doesn’t like the same things as me. In this case, it’s “thing” instead of “things”. I don’t have many hobbies.

He asked me who my favorite player was. It was magical to see Finn’s face light up when I said that legends name: Paolo Maldini. We went on and on, talking about him.

I got to learn that Finn was the type of person who everyone either wanted to be or wanted to fuck. I was so lucky to have the privilege of having him as my best friend. I’m not sure if I was ever his, I definitely wasn’t at the start. Whatever it was, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
