The smell of buttery popcorn filled the air as Scott laid down piles of blankets and pillows on the couch. Isaac was draped across the armrest, scrolling on his phone while shooting occasional comments Scott’s way.
“Did we really have to invite Theo?” Isaac whined. “You know he’s just going to sit there making sarcastic comments the whole time.”
Scott sighed, already anticipating the chaos. “He’s part of the pack now, Isaac. And besides, he and Liam are close.”
Isaac snorted. “Yeah, sure. Close.” He didn’t elaborate, but the grin tugging at his lips told Scott there was more to the story.
As on cue the doorbell rang, signaling the pair's arrival. Liam entered first, carrying a bag of snacks, with an unnatural amount of positivity radiating from him. Theo strolled in behind him acting as if he was only here because Liam dragged him.
“Didn’t realize this was a sleepover,” Theo quipped, gesturing at the mountain of blankets. “Are we braiding each other’s hair next?”
“Shut up and sit down, Theo,” Liam said, hitting his arm after giving Scott the bag. Isaac chuckled, giving Theo an approving nod as if to say, Good one.
As the movie started to play the tension in the room grew. Theo lounged in his seat like he couldn’t care less, occasionally muttering sarcastic remarks that made Liam glare at him. Isaac whispered snide comments about the characters' choices, while Scott shushed him, trying to stay focused on the plot.
While Theo was only half paying attention, he could tell that a jump scare was about to happen. Scott and Liam were on the edge of their seats absorbed into the movie.
As suspected Liam let out a startled yelp and jumped into Theo’s arms hiding his face into his chest. Theo was already expecting this, having his arms ready to catch the beta.
The room went silent. The movie continued to play, but no one was watching anymore. Theo froze, staring at the boy hiding in his arms, while Liam’s face turned red.
Scott blinked in awe as he slowly paused the movie. The silence stretched as all eyes turned to Theo and Liam.
Scott tilted his head. “Wait… are you two—?”
Before he could finish, Isaac burst into laughter breaking the tension. “Oh my God, I knew it!” He leaned forward, clutching his stomach. “I’ve been saying it for weeks, but no one believed me!”
Liam tried to hide deeper into Theo’s chest mumbling, “This is the worst night of my life.”
Theo leaned back a bit with a smirk on his face. “Well, so much for being lowkey.”
Scott’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “You’ve been dating? And you didn’t tell us?” His tone wasn’t accusatory, just genuinely bewildered. “When did this happen? How did I not notice?”
Isaac was calming down from his fit of laughter only letting out inaudible huffs of laughter.
“Probably because you’re too busy making googly eyes at Isaac to notice anything else.” The chimera was still holding the beta close to his body as he heard Isaac laugh a bit more at his statement.
Scott’s face flushed, but Isaac only grinned, clearly enjoying the moment. “He’s got a point,” Isaac added. “But seriously, Liam, you were terrible at hiding it. The whole ‘I hate Theo’ act? Way too over the top.”
Liam groaned, sinking lower into the couch. “This is a disaster.”
Scott leaned forward, his expression softening. “Hey, it’s not a big deal. We’re just surprised.”
“Not we. Only you,” The blond interjected.
Scott continued with a more serious tone after he was rudely interrupted. “Just as long as you’re not screwing with him.”
Theo raised his hands in mock surrender. “Relax, Alpha. I’m not screwing with him. I like him, okay?” He glanced at Liam, who looked up at him, clearly caught off guard by the admission.
Isaac smirked, leaning closer to Scott. “See? Domestic Theo is kind of cute.”
Liam muttered something under his breath, too quiet for anyone to hear, while Theo shot Isaac an unimpressed look. “Don’t push it.”
Scott chuckled, finally relaxing into his seat. “Well, I guess we should get back to the movie, then. But for the record—if you guys need advice or… whatever, we’re here. I mean, not that Isaac and I are experts or anything.”
Isaac raised an eyebrow. “Speak for yourself. I’m amazing.”
Theo rolled his eyes, and Liam gave a small, reluctant smile. “Thanks, Scott,” he mumbled, his voice barely audible.
Scott unpaused the movie, and the room returned to its dim glow. The tension had shifted—still playful, but warmer now, the kind of atmosphere only a pack could create. As the credits rolled at the end of the night, the teasing resumed, but this time, it felt like a celebration of something new.
Scott and Isaac shared a quiet moment as they cleaned up, watching Theo and Liam bicker softly on their way out the door. Scott nudged Isaac. “Fine. You were right.”
Isaac smirked. “I usually am.”
“Oh shut it,” Scott said with no real heat. As the pair watched the other two fighting down the driveway.
