Work Text:

The meadow was quiet except for the soft rustle of grass swayed by the evening breeze. The sky stretched endlessly above them, speckled with stars that seemed brighter than usual, as if they too had taken notice of the two figures nestled beneath their gaze.

Alhaitham lay reclined against a sturdy tree trunk, his arms crossed behind his head. The crisp air cooled his skin, but his attention wasn’t on the night sky. Instead, his eyes drifted toward Kaveh, who sat a few feet away, his golden hair illuminated by the moonlight. Kaveh’s posture was relaxed, his legs stretched out as he pointed at constellations with the enthusiasm of someone who believed in the magic of the stars.

“You can’t even see half of them from the city,” Kaveh murmured, his voice tinged with awe. “Out here, it’s like the sky remembers how to breathe.”

Alhaitham didn’t respond. It wasn’t because he disagreed—he didn’t—but because he was preoccupied with his thoughts.

He remembered the first time they’d met, in the hushed halls of the Akademiya. Kaveh had been a whirlwind of brilliance, passion, and untamed creativity, with eyes so captivating they seemed to hold an entire world within them. Alhaitham recalled how his usual logic had faltered then, stumbling over a single, unavoidable truth: Kaveh was breathtaking. He still was.

The years hadn’t dulled his charm. If anything, time had only refined it, like fine wine aged to perfection. Kaveh still gestured with that same flourish when he spoke, still tucked stray hair behind his ear when lost in thought, still glowed as though he carried a piece of the sun with him.

Alhaitham’s chest tightened. How strange it was to feel so tethered to someone yet remain unable to put it into words.

Kaveh, meanwhile, leaned back on his elbows, his gaze fixed on the heavens. His mind wandered not to the stars above but to the man beside him.

He’d always dreamed about Alhaitham—what their lives might look like if they ever slowed down. Would they share quiet mornings with tea on the balcony? Would Alhaitham hum something soft while he worked on his translations? Would there be more nights like this one, where the world fell silent and it was just the two of them?

He glanced at Alhaitham out of the corner of his eye. The man was calm, composed, the faintest trace of a smile tugging at his lips.

In that moment, Kaveh dared to dream a little further.

Maybe, they’d kiss under the moonlight. How cliché that would be, he thought, a soft chuckle escaping him. But the thought lingered, unshakable, a whisper of something he didn’t have the courage to say aloud.

And then, as if the stars themselves had conspired to grant his unspoken wish, Alhaitham moved closer.

Kaveh didn’t realize what was happening until it was already done—soft, warm, and fleeting like a secret shared with the universe.

Alhaitham closed the distance between, soft lips capturing his.

Alhaitham kissed him.

His breath hitched, his entire body freezing in stunned disbelief. The cool night air rushed back in as Alhaitham pulled away slightly, his expression unreadable save for the faintest pink that dusted his cheeks.

For a long, still moment, Kaveh couldn’t find words. He blinked, his lips parted in shock.

Had he been dreaming? No, it was too real. But—could it be?

Kaveh opened his mouth, the faintest sound of “Wha—” slipping past his lips before he was interrupted.

Alhaitham shrugged off his coat in one fluid motion and draped it over Kaveh’s shoulders without a word. It smelled faintly of parchment and cedar, warm and comforting despite the cool night air.

“You’re cold.”

That was all he said, his voice quiet but steady. The moonlight caught the soft pink on his cheeks, barely noticeable unless you were looking—and Kaveh was definitely looking.

The weight of the coat and Alhaitham’s unexpected gesture wrapped around Kaveh like a second warmth. His chest tightened as his eyes widened, his own blush deepening to a shade that could rival the setting sun.

They stared at each other for a moment, caught in the magnetic pull that seemed impossible to break. It wasn’t just the coat or the kiss from moments earlier. It was the silent understanding, the history they shared, and the feelings they’d never quite found the words for.

Kaveh’s lips parted as if to speak, but he didn’t. What was there to say? What could possibly encompass the strange and overwhelming feeling blooming in his chest?

Alhaitham’s gaze softened, and for a heartbeat, Kaveh thought he might say something too. But instead, Alhaitham looked away first, his sharp profile silhouetted against the stars. Kaveh blinked, the spell breaking just enough for him to follow suit.

Neither of them spoke again, but the silence didn’t feel empty. It was soft, almost sacred, filled with unspoken things that didn’t need to be said aloud.

The stars twinkled above, their faint glow washing over the meadow, casting everything in a silvery light. Kaveh tugged the coat tighter around himself, sinking into its warmth as he tilted his head upward.

For once, he didn’t ramble about constellations or tell Alhaitham about the theories he’d read in some dusty tome. Instead, he just admired the sky in silence, letting the moment stretch on like a dream he didn’t want to wake up from.

But every so often, his eyes drifted sideways, stealing glances at Alhaitham. Each time, he found himself marveling at the way the man looked—calm, composed, his expression softer than usual.

And then their gazes met.

It happened too fast for Kaveh to prepare. His heart jumped, a sharp flutter that left him breathless, as if Alhaitham’s turquoise eyes carried the weight of the entire night sky.

Alhaitham blinked, his own gaze flickering away as a hint of pink bloomed on his cheeks once again.

Kaveh’s lips quirked up, and he turned back to the stars, biting down on the grin threatening to take over his face. He felt like a teenager all over again, giddy and bashful in a way he hadn’t been in years.

The pattern repeated itself: a stolen glance, a brief meeting of eyes, and a hurried look away. Each time it happened, their blushes deepened, as though they were caught in some silent game neither of them wanted to stop playing.

For Kaveh, it was perfect. The quiet, the stars, the warmth of Alhaitham’s coat—it was everything he’d ever dreamed of, and more.

The silence wrapped around them like a cocoon, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves in the gentle breeze. The stars above continued their quiet vigil, illuminating the meadow with a faint, ethereal glow.

Kaveh shifted slightly, leaning ever so slowly until his head rested against Alhaitham’s shoulder.

Alhaitham stiffened at first, his muscles tensing as if caught off guard. He didn’t move away, though; instead, he froze in place, as though trying to decipher what to do next. The faintest of blushes crept back onto his cheeks, but he said nothing, didn’t even turn his head.

Kaveh smiled against his shoulder, amused at the awkward man beside him. He had been so predictable yet endearingly so—never quite knowing how to react to tender moments like these. It was silly, but it was also quintessentially Alhaitham.

The silence stretched on, comfortable yet charged, and Kaveh found himself longing for just a little more closeness. His fingers twitched against his lap, hesitating before he let out a small breath of courage. Slowly, carefully, he shifted his hand closer to Alhaitham’s, resting it beside his.

Alhaitham’s hand was warm, his fingers relaxed against his knee. In comparison, Kaveh’s own hand felt cold, the night air having seeped into his skin despite the coat draped around his shoulders.

For a moment, Kaveh lingered there, his fingers barely brushing Alhaitham’s. He could feel the faint heat radiating from his skin, and it made his heart race in a way he wasn’t sure he was ready to admit.

But then, he moved.

Slowly, he let his hand slip into Alhaitham’s, the tips of his fingers grazing against his palm before he curled them in, intertwining them together.

Alhaitham tensed again, his breath hitching audibly as Kaveh’s cold fingers threaded through his warmer ones. His palm was firm and slightly calloused, a contrast to Kaveh’s softer, slender fingers.

For a moment, Alhaitham didn’t move. He stared down at their joined hands, as if the simple act of holding hands was something far more profound than it should have been.

Kaveh chuckled softly, the sound barely audible. “Relax, Haitham,” he teased lightly, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.

That squeeze broke through whatever hesitance lingered in Alhaitham’s mind. He tightened his hold on Kaveh’s hand in return, his fingers curling securely around his. The warmth of his palm spread through Kaveh’s cold hand, chasing away the lingering chill of the night.

Kaveh couldn’t help but notice how natural it felt—how their hands seemed to fit together like pieces of a puzzle. He glanced up at Alhaitham from under his lashes, his heart fluttering at the sight of the usually composed man trying so hard to maintain a neutral expression.

But Alhaitham wasn’t as unreadable as he liked to think. The faint pink still dusting his cheeks and the way his thumb brushed almost absentmindedly against the back of Kaveh’s hand betrayed him completely.

“You’re so warm,” Kaveh murmured, his voice soft, as though speaking too loudly might shatter the moment. He rested his head more firmly against Alhaitham’s shoulder, his heart thrumming in his chest as he closed his eyes.

“And you’re cold,” Alhaitham replied, his voice equally quiet, though there was a trace of exasperation in it. Yet his hand remained tightly entwined with Kaveh’s, holding him as if letting go wasn’t an option.

For a while, they stayed like that. Neither spoke, neither moved, content to let the moment stretch on.

Alhaitham’s heart was pounding in his chest, so loud he was certain Kaveh could hear it. But as he looked down at the man leaning against him, his golden hair catching the starlight, his expression softened. Kaveh had always been like this—fearless in his affections, unapologetically open with his emotions. It was one of the many things that had drawn Alhaitham to him in the first place.

Kaveh shifted slightly, the quiet hum of the moment drawing him out of his thoughts. Slowly, he lifted his head from Alhaitham’s shoulder, their hands still loosely intertwined. His golden hair fell softly around his face, and his red eyes glimmered under the moonlight as they met Alhaitham’s turquoise gaze.

He didn’t say a word, but he didn’t need to.

Kaveh smiled—a quiet, tender curve of his lips that spoke volumes more than any words ever could. It was a smile that seemed to carry the weight of the stars above them, as though every unspoken thought, every fleeting emotion, was poured into that single expression.

Alhaitham felt his breath catch, his chest tightening at the sight.

Kaveh had always been beautiful, achingly so, but in this moment, under the soft glow of the moonlight, he seemed almost otherworldly. The way the light danced across his features, the warmth in his gaze, and the subtle way his smile lingered—all of it tugged at something deep within Alhaitham, something he couldn’t quite name but had always felt.

The world around them seemed to fade, leaving only the two of them, suspended in this fragile, fleeting moment.

Without thinking, without hesitation, they both moved.

It wasn’t rushed or awkward; it was slow, deliberate, as though the universe itself had drawn them together. Alhaitham leaned forward just as Kaveh tilted his head slightly, their movements perfectly in sync as though they had done this a thousand times before.

And then their lips met.

The kiss was soft, almost hesitant at first, as if testing the waters of something so tender, so profound. But it deepened quickly, the shared warmth of the moment pulling them closer, erasing any distance that had ever existed between them.

Kaveh’s free hand came up to rest gently against Alhaitham’s chest, feeling the rapid thrum of his heartbeat beneath his palm. Alhaitham’s other hand found its way to Kaveh’s jaw, his fingers brushing against his cheek as if cradling something delicate, something he couldn’t bear to let go of.

The stars above seemed to glow brighter, their light wrapping around the pair like a celestial embrace. The world was silent, save for the soft rustle of the breeze and the quiet rhythm of their hearts.

When they finally pulled away, neither spoke. Kaveh’s eyes searched Alhaitham’s face, his cheeks flushed and his lips slightly parted as if he couldn’t quite believe what had just happened.

But Alhaitham didn’t let go. His hand lingered against Kaveh’s cheek, his thumb brushing against the soft skin there, and in his turquoise eyes, there was a softness, a quiet promise that Kaveh had never seen before.

And Kaveh? He smiled again, this time with a hint of wonder, his heart light and free as if the weight of the world had finally lifted.

The moon hung high above them, a silent witness to the quiet, unspoken understanding that passed between them. This kiss wasn’t stolen, wasn’t a fleeting dream—it was intentional, mutual, theirs.

As they sat there beneath the stars, still close, still holding onto each other, it felt like the beginning of something timeless, something they’d both been waiting for.
