Notes:

Hey so, this may seem familiar and it is because I decided to cancel Comfy-tober due to not being able to keep up with it. I had a lot of stressing matters going on and continuing is probably not going to happen so I apologize. I will be posting the two chapters are separate fanfics and if I'm up to it, I'll do something for December! Thanks for understanding <3

Work Text:

Rain knew he was to blame and it was entirely his fault for what happened in that conference room. Yet for some reason, he couldn’t stop his eyes from getting damp, a heavy burning behind them as he stared at his lap, his hands bunched into fists while his boss scolded him, the man’s voice heavy with pure disappointment. Forcing himself to nod since Rain knew he couldn’t speak without whimpering, Rain held his body firm, not letting himself tremble with his suppressed sobs.

Letting his eyes raise a bit to look at his folders in front of him, Rain tried not to notice the stares in his direction, the other employees either eyeing him in concern or disappointment, Rain couldn’t tell since he absolutely would not meet their stares. It was even worse to know that his fiancé was in the room and was also most likely disappointed by Rain’s forgetfulness. Letting his eyes drift to his watch, Rain counted down the minutes until the meeting was over and he could leave, silently hoping that the ride home with Phayu wasn’t tense.

“Rain? Come on, let’s go.” Not realizing he had let his mind drift long enough for the meeting to finish, Rain twitched a little when the sound of Phayu’s voice snapped him out of it, his fiancé’s voice soft despite everything Rain did wrong. Nodding silently, Rain gathered up his things and held them to his chest, following Phayu out of the room and to their desks, grabbing their bags and leaving for the night. “I’ll drive, okay?”

“Yeah…” Rain muttered, his voice low as they exited the building, the cool night air a wonderful feeling against Rain’s heated skin. Observing Rain casually, Phayu couldn’t stop the furrow of his brow, the rising feeling of concern bubbling in his chest at how quiet Rain was being. He knew that Rain had to have been feeling something from being scolded like that in front of everyone but Phayu didn’t think it would be to this extent. “Thanks, P’Phayu…”

Shaking off the quiet thanks, Phayu opened the passenger side for Rain, letting him get settled in the seat before he shut it, trailing around the car to the driver’s seat. Sliding in, Phayu started the engine and put the heat on low, the soft warmth making Rain unconsciously relax a fraction. Peering at him throughout the ride, Phayu knew that they needed to talk about what happened and how Rain felt since he hadn’t seen the usually hyper young man this sullen since his early university days.

“How about some pizza tonight? I’ll order it while you clean up. Sounds good?” Phayu asked, not liking the silence one bit. Giving a soft hum of approval, Rain let his head lean back against the seat, his eyes taking in the passing scenery around them, the bright neon lights of some bars and nightclubs making everything in their vicinity glow in different colors. Knowing that he wouldn’t get anything else out of his fiancé, Phayu turned on the radio and let the song fill the silence until they arrived home. “Rain, we’re home.”

Rubbing his tired eyes, Rain gave Phayu a shaky smile that made more worry rise in Phayu’s chest. Climbing out of the car, Rain robotically moved towards the house, slipping in the front door while Phayu locked up before following him. Kicking his boots off and placing them neatly on the rack, doing the same for Rain’s discarded converse, Phayu glanced up as he heard the bathroom door shut, Rain already inside the room. Letting out a sigh, Phayu stared up at the closed bathroom door and fought with his mind on what he should do. He knew that Rain had a habit of letting things get worse in his head but it was something Phayu knew that Rain was working on.

“I’ll just check on him quickly and go from there,” Phayu thought to himself before he followed his fiancé’s trail, pausing at the bathroom door for a moment. Tapping his foot against the rug for a second, Phayu softly knocked on the door and listened closely, straining his ears for any response from Rain. Hearing nothing, however, Phayu knocked a bit more firmly this time and slowly opened the door, the sight of Rain’s discarded clothes scattered along the floor greeting him. “Rain, darling? Are you okay?”

“P’Phayu…” Letting himself in more when he heard Rain’s whimper, Phayu shut the door behind him and knelt down at the tub, the sight of Rain’s red eyes and tear stained cheeks making his heart crack. Sniffling as he met Phayu’s eyes, Rain couldn’t help the hiccuping sob that slipped free from his trembling lips before Phayu reached for him, burying Rain’s face in his shoulder. Not caring about the fact Phayu was still wearing clothes, Rain withdrew his arms from the water and wrapped them around his fiancé. “I-I’m so sorry, P’Phayu. I am such a disappointment. Why can’t I get anything right?”

Shushing Rain softly as his sobs grew in volume, Phayu rubbed comforting circles across the damp skin of his back, using his other hand to rub the back of Rain’s hair gently. Letting Rain cry out all his feelings until all that was coming out of him were sniffles and light gasps, Phayu pulled away a little to remove his clothes. Moving up a bit in the tub, Rain wiped his eyes as Phayu got in behind him, the water getting a bit higher as another body entered it. Scooting back once Phayu’s legs were beside his, Rain let himself lean against Phayu’s chest, his fiancé’s arms wrapping around his waist in a firm embrace.

“Rain, love, you’re not a disappointment. You’ve worked so hard to get where you are now and I am always so proud of you. Everyone forgets every now and then, okay?” Phayu whispered against Rain’s ear, pressing a kiss against his shoulder before letting his lips trail up and land on Rain’s cheek. Wanting to deny Phayu’s attempt to reassure him, Rain didn’t get the chance to as Phayu turned him and pressed their lips together, taking the words right out of his mouth. Taking in a deep breath, Rain let his teary eyes flutter close as he returned the kiss, pulling away only when Phayu cupped his cheeks, his thumbs gently wiping away his tears. “Tomorrow’s a new day, you know? And it also happens to be a day we’re both off so why don’t we go on a date night, hm? We can do anything you want, okay?”

“R-really?” Rain asked quietly, his damp eyes staring at Phayu like he hung the moon and stars. Chuckling softly with a nod, Phayu wiped the remaining tear tracks on Rain’s face as Rain sniffled, a small smile rising on his lips that had Phayu letting out a relieved sigh. Nuzzling their noses together and grinning when it made Rain giggle, Phayu pulled him close again and held Rain tight, letting his hand rub circles against his fiancé’s stomach. Letting himself relax against Phayu, Rain let all his frustration and sadness leave him with a heavy sigh, wanting nothing but Phayu’s comforting words swirling around his mind, silencing every burdensome thought that dared to enter it. “I’m still sorry, P’Phayu…I don’t want my mistake to hinder your reputation…”

“You’ll never hinder anything, Rain. We’re a team whether someone likes it or not. You’re stuck with me,” Phayu reassured softly, his words easing the last of Rain’s troubling thoughts. Snuggling closer to Phayu’s warmth, Rain laced their hands together under the water and allowed himself to relax, not caring about how the once hot water was now cooling around them. “Let’s not bathe too long, I can feel the water getting cold and the last thing we both need is to get sick. Not to mention we still have to order food.”

Snickering when the thought of food made his stomach growl, Phayu feeling it since his hands were resting against Rain’s stomach, Rain let out a noise for affirmation yet still not making any move to get out. Pressing a kiss to Rain’s temple, Phayu allowed Rain to be the one to decide when to get out, letting his fiancé relax just a bit longer since he knew Rain needed it. Food could wait since, to Phayu, Rain’s feelings were more important.
