Work Text:

Of course, Patricia would be away from the other girls as they all laughed and talked, just when she thought she had finally made friends...

"Patricia! What are you doing sitting around? I thought you did get along with the other girls..."

Who she was speaking to got startled at the sudden interruption, and the girl had to hold in a laugh at it. "HEY! you scared me! could you just *not* come up and yell at me without warning!?"

"Okay, okay, sorry. But you didn't answer my question." Marie crossed her arms, slightly impatient.

"Ughh.. It's not that I don't like 'em, I like 'em, but they're talking stupid! I don't want to talk about boys, I can't even stand play house." The other girl retorted the position, but seemed more defensive than indignant.

Marie thought about the response for a few seconds. "Huh.. boys? Well, I guess I get you this time." Surprisingly, even to herself, instead of scolding or lecturing, Marie agreed with Patricia.

"Yeah, yeah. I know you're gonna say that- W-wait, you get me?! I thought you'd also be talking about a boy you like and how you want to kiss him or something gross like that!"

The maid sat down next to the other girl, a light, understanding smile on her face. "No, not at all. I don't care when older girls talk about boys they like either, really."

"Thanks, gosh! I thought I was the only one.. I don't know why I'd want a boyfriend, husband, lover or any of those weird names they have for gross relationships" Patricia paused for a few seconds, then an almost playful smile settled on her face, before Marie could suspect it, she said: "I mean, what do I want a husband for if I literally have a super-preoccupied friend who already nags me every day?"

"Uh- Patty... it's not the same thing."

"And why not? all husbands care and help you and whatever, I don't know, that's all I got. But that's the same thing you do, Marie!" Patricia couldn't help but laugh lightly, as if she was aware of what she was saying. Marie, on the other hand, could only roll her eyes at the statement.

"Okay, whatever you say. Yes, it may look like it, but there's just one thing you're missing..."

"Huh? What is it?"

"The ring, silly! To get married you need a ring." Marie showed her left hand, pale, and of course, without a ring or any jewelry of the kind.

"Gah, you fuss over everything. Look, here." The other showed her hand too, and from two fingers she pulled out two different rings, details Marie didn't know nor remember she had. Patricia moved one ring closer to the maid's hand, gently grasping it to place the ring on it.

"Do you have rings? I didn't see you as the type of girl to have rings."

"I'm not really. But the other girls wanted me to be more 'feminine', so they gave some to me. I don't care much, you can keep one!"

"I see" Marie laughed gently at the idea of a feminine Patricia, although it didn't seem so far fetched, it wasn't something she thought she would put on willingly, and she was right apparently.

"Will you marry me, Marie? C'mon, follow my script!" Patricia exclaimed, for some reason sounding almost excited by this little, silly game. Ironic, she was the first to say she didn't want a husband not liked to play house...

Marie looked down at her left hand and sighed as she realized something, what a goofy girl, how could she make a mistake like that? "Emm, no."

"HUH?! but why!?" She made a wet doggy face, she really didn't notice, did she?

"Because you put the ring on the wrong finger, it's not on the little finger, it's the one next to it." Marie laughed a bit at Patricia's confusion, she watches TV all day, but never saw what a real wedding looks like? Well, Marie wasn't *that* surprised either.

"Uh- Ohh... Hehe, don't be picky, there's a ring anyway so it's the same thing!" Patricia was visibly embarrassed as she shifted the jewel to the ring finger on Marie's hand. And finally cleared her voice, faking a deeper one. "Let's move on! *ahem*. Miss Marie Korbel, do you take Patricia Watson to be your wife to love her very very much and protect her from Hilgard's scolding? And more importantly, don't tell him if she gets on trouble? Now you say yes!"

Marie laughed more freely. "You set very difficult conditions for me, Patty!" She couldn't help but let out a sigh accompanied by laugh again. "Well, yes, I accept. But that doesn't mean I meet *all* the conditions, plus you said the quote wrong–"

"It doesn't matter if I said it wrong, play along!" The other girl cleared her voice again to continue the speech. "So, Miss Patricia Watson, do you take Marie Korbel to love her very very much even if you have to put up with her chattering and nagging while you want to watch TV?"

"Hey, it's not funny anymore!" Despite the complaint, Marie laughed again, contradicting her own statement.

Patricia stopped her act for a second. "Shh, you've already agreed, don't complain! And I'm gonna have to suck your scolding up anyway, so yes, I accept!" She laughed in unison with Marie, and settled the thick voice to almost finish with a: "Then, you can kiss the bride–"

But before Patricia could even finish speaking, Marie quickly, impulsively, as if a magnet drew her directly to the other girl's face, kissed her cheek so gently that the action could go unnoticed. But it didn't, Patricia was left completely dumbfounded and, looking closely, blushed for a few seconds at it. What a silly girl, who reacts like that when your friend gives you a kiss in the cheek? Although at least she looked cute, more than usual, that's undeniable. A warm feeling settled on Marie's chest at the sight of it.

"Wow..." Who says 'wow' when your friend gives you...? Well, point taken. "Haha... Well, I guess the wedding's now complete. You can't say that having a friend isn't the same as having a boyfriend!" Patricia said, although Marie could well notice how she was trying to hide her nervous attitude with a funny comment. Cute.

"I guess. You did shut my mouth, didn't you?"

They both laughed. But Marie's eyes deviated at that shiny, golden, small gift wrapped in her left hand. It felt in a way comfortable, as if she'd actually had it in her finger her whole life. Marie couldn't help but smile sweet and fondly at the thought.
So, they were married, mmh?
