Work Text:
After the big disaster at Blackwater and the horrible stay at Colter, the gang was able to settle down at Horseshoe Overlook and that brought a bit of stability to everyone. But for you, that meant much more work than before.
You are known for being the mother of the gang par excellence, just behind Grimshaw, since you joined the gang many years ago, you were the first woman to be under the care of Dutch and Hosea and having the hand Grimshaw's hard; that made you a motherly woman who ensures the care of all the members of the gang.
You were in charge of making the food together with Pearson (in fact many preferred your food more than Pearson's, and that makes him angry), you sewed all the clothes that the men left you, you washed their clothes and you always found a way to remove any stain. Every time someone came to the camp injured, you went to help them heal their wounds or if they were sick you took care of them yourself; but you also scolded whoever misbehaved in front of your eyes! And you pulled their ears or slapped them.
You thought that outlaws needed more education and good manners than anyone else, and you were right.
You supported all the members of the gang, you scolded the men and looked after them in your own way, you accompanied the women and helped them with everything with a smile (and you defended them if Grimshaw was too strict with them) and you gave the younger members extra care like giving them more food and letting them rest more.
The only one you didn't take care of was Micah, that guy gave you a bad feeling, and besides he had hands and feet to take care of himself. He didn't even deserve your care.
Today was a long day at the camp, you were in charge of making the food with Pearson, after that you washed the big pile of dirty clothes that the men left behind, and then you were in charge of bandaging Sean when the boys rescued him; you were happy that Sean was back, but having him talk to him for a long time annoyed you, and even more so when he insisted on having a party in his honor.
The only thing you wanted to do was lie down on your cot, but you still had to sew the large pile of clothes that you had to attend to.
This day seemed to have no end, but you started sewing the clothes anyway, you were immersed in sewing until you heard Abigail's voice calling you.
"Y/N! Can I talk to you?"
You stopped sewing the clothes you were sewing and walked towards her.
"Sure! What's wrong, Abby?" .- Even though you were tired, you tried to keep a smile for Abigail.
"I'm going out with John tonight, and I was wondering if you could watch Jack while I'm gone."
Abigail was obviously nervous by the way her gaze kept moving away from you.
"I know you're busy, Y/N. I promise that as soon as I get back I'll take care of sewing all the clothes you had to sew, but I..."
You interrupted Abigail by shaking your head and placing your hand on her shoulder.
"You know you can count on me for anything, Abby, I'll take care of him." .- You gave a reassuring smile to Abigail, who was calmer now with your positive response.
"I don't know how I can thank you."
"Don't thank me for anything, Abby. Now go and try to talk some sense into John.”
"You're the best, Y/N."
You just smiled, you loved Abigail like she was your sister, you also loved John like a brother, but at the same time you wanted to tear off his ears for not recognizing Jack as his son.
Abigail gave you a grateful smile, she said goodbye to you, giving you a hug, which you reciprocated, she told you that Jack already knew that you were going to take care of him tonight, so you went to where he was. Jack was in the corner playing with some sticks, you walked over to him and crouched down to be at his level.
Your skirt fell to the floor as if they were rose petals while Jack left the sticks to approach you.
"Hello, little Jack."
"Hello, Auntie Y/N!"
"What are you doing, little one?"
"I read a book with Uncle Hosea about some musketeers." .- The little boy explained while picking up the stick he had left on the ground.
"Did you and Uncle Hosea read 'The Three Musketeers'?" .- You asked, encouraging the child's creativity.
"Yeah!"
You noticed how Jack's enthusiasm was changed by his latent sadness, to which you placed your hand on his small shoulder and spoke to him in a soft tone.
"What's wrong, little Jack?"
"I wanted to play with my dad, but he told me he was busy." .- Jack lowered his gaze, he was trying to hide his sadness, but his eyes and his hiccuping voice gave away that he wanted to cry.
Oh, now you were angry, you were going to kill John as soon as he stepped foot into the camp.
But you decided to put your anger aside and dried his tears with your skirt.
"Don't cry, little Jack. I'm going to play musketeers with you."
"Really, Auntie Y/N?"
"Of course I do."
You stood up and took one of the sticks that were on the ground, but not before ruffling Jack's hair with your hand and that made him laugh.
"Alright, on guard, musketeer Jack!"
Jack laughed again and picked up his stick once more.
"On guard, Auntie Y/N!"
In this way you and Jack began to play with the sticks pretending that you were the musketeers from the book. The books about musketeers and heroes weren't your favorites, but if Jack liked them, you had no problem playing with him to make him happy.
Although you thought that children's games were silly, the truth is that with all the day you had, you were having fun playing with Jack.
"Stop right there, Musketeer Jack!" .- You said stopping Jack, who dropped his stick to the ground and raised his arms, when you cornered him with your stick.
"Do you know what happens to musketeers without a sword?"
"No! What happens to them, Auntie Y/N?"
"They get a tickle attack!" .- You quickly dropped your stick, took Jack in your arms, picked him up and tickled him.
The little boy started laughing euphorically, which made you laugh too, you were so focused on tickling Jack that you didn't notice the familiar footsteps and the large figure approaching you and Jack.
Jack calmed down and stopped laughing for a moment, resting his head on your shoulder, that was when he saw it.
"Hi, Uncle Arthur!"
"Arthur!?"
You stopped dead in your tracks when you saw Dutch's right-hand man, Arthur Morgan, was standing in front of you, staring at you and Jack with an amused smile on his face.
You and Arthur knew each other since you joined many years ago, he was the muscle of the gang and Dutch always gave him the most important missions. Although Arthur was a tough guy with great strength, you knew he had a heart of gold, as he helped anyone who needed his help.
Maybe that was why you fell in love with him, because of his big heart and his big and corpulent muscles...
What were you thinking? You scolded yourself. He probably only saw you as a sister, you and him had their responsibilities in the gang, there was no time for romance between you two.
You also knew the complicated love life Arthur had, and you hadn't had any luck in that either.
There was no way you had a place in Arthur's heart, beyond being like some kind of sister to him.
Your cheeks were starting to turn pink from embarrassment, it wasn't from seeing Arthur, but because he had seen you playing with Jack. He must have found it funny by the way he smiled, you already knew that you were in for some jokes from him as soon as you stopped taking care of the boy.
Because of course, Arthur was always away from the camp for days, but just when you had to take care of Jack; he appears and arrives before nightfall, when he always arrives late at night.
You looked away from him, but Jack, unlike you, was very happy to see Arthur, he even extended his little arms because he wanted him to carry him.
"Hey, Jack, and it's good to see you too, Y/N."
Arthur smiled as he saw you and Jack, the boy smiled too, but you just let out an annoyed snort.
"Do you want to carry him?" .- You asked Arthur as you extended Jack to him, you had an annoyed expression on your face, but the boy liked the idea and extended his arms further towards him.
"Yes, please, Uncle Arthur!"
Arthur was about to refuse, but seeing that you offered him Jack, and seeing that Jack wanted to be carried as well, he had no choice but to accept.
"Alright! Come here, Jack!" .- The outlaw said in his usual baritone tone, while you handed him Jack, and he carried him with his strong arms. Jack was very happy for this.
"Higher, Uncle Arthur, higher!"
Arthur laughed and took off his hat and placed it on Jack, it was too big for him and fell between his eyes, you laughed at this; but Arthur just adjusted his hat and placed Jack between his shoulders.
"Now, I'm your horse, little fella! Where are we going?"
You couldn't believe what you were seeing, the great Arthur Morgan was playing with Jack, he had him around his shoulders and he was now making horse sounds. You laughed and you could see Jack's great happiness at this.
"Let's go over there, Uncle Arthur!"
"Alright!"
You followed Arthur and Jack closely as they walked around the camp, Jack playing at being a cowboy and Arthur pretending to be his horse. This whole scene seemed so surreal to you, but at the same time it warmed your heart.
After a while, Jack told Arthur to stop at a table near Abigail's tent, so Arthur put Jack down.
"It was so much fun being a cowboy, Uncle Arthur!" .- Jack said being very happy and returned his hat to Arthur, who placed it back on his head.
"Much better than being a musketeer, right?" .- Arthur joked with Jack, but that was also directed at you, which brought back your initial annoyance; great, he had seen you playing musketeers with Jack from the beginning and you didn't even notice! You knew Arthur was going to tease you about that for weeks, but now you were going to defend yourself by telling him that he had played at being a horse.
"I actually liked being a musketeer and a cowboy!" .- Jack responded without knowing the mocking conversation that was going on between you and Arthur.
"It's good that you had fun, little Jack. How about you draw something?" .- This time you spoke to Jack while you ruffled his hair with your hand, he laughed and ran to the tent where he had a couple of pages and some pencils that Abigail had given him, after Jack had lost his comic book in Blackwater.
As Jack left, you noticed that Arthur had an amused expression, which made you get upset.
"So, how was your day, musketeer Y/N?"
Arthur's mocking laughter made you let out an annoyed snort.
"Please, mock me quietly. I'm taking care of Jack."
"I see that. What happened to Abigail?"
"She's spending the night with John, I'll take care of Jack until then."
Arthur let out a genuine laugh as his hands rested on his belt buckle. You just looked at him confused.
"What? I can't take care of Jack?"
"No, it's not that. It's just... I think Abigail couldn't have picked a better babysitter than you." .- Arthur said giving you a genuine smile, looking at you over the brim of his hat, although you were flattered by his compliment you were still confused.
You knew Arthur was acting very strange around you. Shouldn't he be doing an important mission for Dutch or running some other errand around the camp instead of spending time with you and Jack?
Before you could say anything else, Jack arrived with some paper and pencils in his hands. When you saw him, you guided him to the table and carried him to sit on your lap. The boy had no problem with this; since this was something he did with his mother regularly.
What you didn't expect was that Arthur was going to sit next to you and Jack. Okay, you thought something must have happened to Arthur for him to behave this way.
"What are you going to draw, little Jack?"
"I don't know yet. I think I'll draw a lot of things!"
"Draw as many things as you want, little Jack! Art has no limits." .- You said, ruffling Jack's hair with your hand again and giving him a kiss on his forehead. This made the boy laugh and you also felt Arthur's gaze.
"Did you know that Uncle Hosea taught Uncle Arthur, your dad, and me how to draw, little Jack?"
You saw how Jack's eyes lit up at this and in contrast you noticed that Arthur gave you a confused look, it was so strange for him that you referred to him as 'Uncle Arthur'.
"Really, Auntie Y/N?"
"Of course, thanks to Uncle Hosea, we draw a lot now. Right, Arthur?"
"Yeah, but John draws like hell-"
Before Arthur could finish that sentence, you stomped hard on Arthur's foot that was near you, causing him to yelp in pain. You gave him a furious glare as if to say 'don't say that in front of the kid' and he quickly cleared his throat.
"I, erm, I meant... Your dad draws really well, Jack."
"Wow! I didn't know dad drew too!" .- Jack said now more motivated to draw than before, you were glad to see that sparkle in his eyes.
“Can you draw with me, Auntie Y/N and Uncle Arthur? I would like to see your drawings!”
"Of course you can, little Jack."
You left Jack in the box where you were sitting, you nudged Arthur and pointed to his bag, so he could take out his journal and start drawing with the boy. He understood what you wanted to say and took out his journal, with this done you yourself went to get your diary and your pencils that were in your tent.
When you returned with your diary and pencils, you saw a beautiful scene where Arthur was drawing with Jack, both of them were making the same gestures when drawing. You smiled as you took another box where you sat down and began to draw in your diary as well.
There was a comfortable silence between the three of you, Jack was focused on drawing, Arthur seemed to be too, so you decided to focus on your own drawing; where you drew a bird in its nest, which you had seen in the treetops while you were washing clothes.
"I finished!" .- Jack said proud of his work and showed it to you and Arthur.
Jack's drawing was like the typical children's drawings, where he drew the sun, the clouds, the grass, on the sides were his parents and in the center was him.
"Aww, what a nice drawing, Jack! Did you draw yourself and your parents, right?"
"No, I drew you two, Auntie Y/N!"
You blinked your eyes and directed your gaze at Arthur, he seemed to be just as confused as you, so you looked more closely at Jack's drawing; the mom's drawing had your hair and your skirt and the dad's drawing had Arthur's hair and his hat.
You were touched by this and placed a hand on your heart, Arthur also seemed touched by the way he smiled.
"The drawing turned out beautiful, Jack. I really liked it." .- You said giving Jack a kiss on the forehead.
"Yes, the drawing is great, Jack. You drew us very well." .- Arthur congratulated, ruffling the boy's hair.
"Thank you! Can I see your drawings, Uncle Arthur and Auntie Y/N?".- Jack asked, waiting to see your drawing and Arthur's, he seemed a little nervous about showing his drawing, while you had no problem showing it to him and Jack.
The drawing you made was of a bird in its nest, it was a mother bird, as she was taking care of her eggs. Jack's eyes lit up with amazement when he saw your drawing and Arthur laughed a little, but it was not to mock you, but because he already knew that you would draw fauna; since you liked animals.
"Wow, Auntie Y/N! Your drawing is very pretty! Is it a mom bird?"
"Thank you very much, Jack, and yes, it is a mother bird."
"I think she looks a bit like you, let me tell ya."
You were annoyed by this comment from Arthur, but Jack spoke up before you could answer.
"Can I see your drawing, Uncle Arthur?"
Suddenly all the boldness Arthur had a few moments ago was gone with a simple question from Jack, now it was your turn to laugh as he scratched his neck, seeing your and Jack's expectant gaze, Arthur decided to show his drawing to you and Jack; this made both of you surprised.
Arthur's drawing was of you and Jack, it was when you dried Jack's tears earlier! He drew your hair as if it were fine strands and portrayed your feminine silhouette very well with your distinctive features, and he had practically made an exact portrait of Jack. You looked like a forest nymph helping a lost child get back to his parents.
“It’s us, Auntie Y/N!”
"Yes, Jack, we are." .- You said, still being surprised by Arthur's drawing, this had taken away your previous annoyance completely, you didn't think that Arthur could see you that way.
Maybe you could have a chance with him after all...
For God's sake, no! You tried to keep your composure, reminding yourself that Arthur draws everything he sees every day, that's how Hosea taught you, John, and him.
It couldn't be anything new that Arthur drew you.
"Your drawing is very beautiful, Uncle Arthur!"
“Thanks, Jack.”
"Yes, your drawing is really amazing, Arthur." .- You said, feeling flattered but at the same time you tried to hide your rosy cheeks, Arthur seemed to like this, but before he said anything, Jack spoke.
“I hope you and my Auntie Y/N can teach me how to draw like this!”
"I think you better ask Uncle Hosea, Jack. Me, your dad, and your Auntie Y/N learned how to draw from him." .- Arthur said, patting Jack on the back but not taking his eyes off you.
"I want to learn to draw from Uncle Hosea!"
Seeing the unexpected energy that Jack was having, you took him in your hands and carried him, it was already getting dark and you had to prepare him for sleep.
"Ok, little Jack, that's enough drawings for today! It's time for us to have some dinner."
"But I want to learn how to draw with Uncle Hosea, Auntie Y/N!"
Jack gave you pleading puppy eyes, you swore you were melting with the sweetness of this beautiful baby boy, but you had to be firm with him.
"You can draw with Uncle Hosea tomorrow, but now it's time for dinner."
“But, Auntie Y/N…”
"No buts, little Jack, your mother would like you to have a good dinner."
Jack pouted a little and Arthur unexpectedly intervened, giving him a rather stern look.
"Listen to your Auntie Y/N, Jack. She only wants the best for you."
With Arthur's hard look, Jack finally gave in with a nod, and with this you took Jack to Pearson's stand.
Jack asked you to put him down and hold his hand, to which you agreed, he asked Arthur the same and so both you and Arthur walked with Jack holding each of his hands until you reached Pearson's stand, you helped yourselves to a few portions of the stew you made this morning and sat near the campfire.
Some members of the gang were giving you and Arthur curious glances, you seemed to be Jack's real parents, and not because John and Abigail were bad. But because you and Arthur acted more like responsible parents to Jack.
When you tried to feed Jack, he didn't want to eat the stew, so you offered the spoon to Jack like a train, but he still refused to eat it.
"Come on, little Jack, you have to eat!"
"I don't want to!"
"Well, Jack's right, Pearson's food is not a big deal..."
You nudged Arthur and this made him complain.
"For your information, I also cooked the stew this morning!"
When Arthur and Jack knew that you had made the meal along with Pearson, Jack finally decided to eat the stew, you also noticed that Arthur was eating his plate. You calmed down when you saw that these two were eating well.
When Jack finished eating, he saw that Hosea had approached the campfire, so when you gave him your approval. The boy ran to see Hosea, as if he were his grandfather.
Both you and Arthur were touched by this, Hosea gave you a mischievous look, as if to say: 'Okay, I'll take care of my grandson, you two have fun, lovebirds!'
It seemed that Hosea had said much more with his look than with his words, although you were annoyed by this, you decided to eat your plate while Arthur stayed with you in silence.
"You know, you don't have to do this, Arthur. Dutch would kill me if he sees that I've been distracting you from your missions for too long." .- You said still eating from your plate, while Arthur scratched his neck.
"It's okay, I've already finished doing everything Dutch asked me to do, that's why I came early."
"And you didn't have other better things to do?"
"Not really. Why?"
This already seemed very strange to you, Arthur always had something to do, if he wasn't on a mission, he was running some errand for the gang or you even knew that he had his own adventures helping people who needed his help.
Arthur was acting very strange.
Why did he spend so much time with you when you were babysitting Jack?
"Is there something wrong, Y/N?"
"No, it's nothing, Arthur. I'm fine."
You focused on finishing eating your stew, Arthur didn't seem convinced with your answer, he had known you for years and knew that you were hiding something from him. But he decided not to pressure you and let you eat your dinner in peace while he drew in his journal.
When you finished eating your plate, Hosea approached you holding Jack by the hand, the little one was already starting to feel tired, you thanked Hosea and carried Jack in your arms. The boy was yawning and his little eyes were already closing.
You could hear in the distance that Hosea took your place at the campfire and began to talk to Arthur, but now your priority was Jack and you took him to Abigail's tent.
When you arrived you placed Jack on the cot and carefully covered him with the blanket while he got comfortable. The little boy had a long and fun day and you were happy that Jack had a good time with you.
Jack practically had his little eyes closed, this boy was killing you with his cuteness, you gave him a kiss on his forehead to say goodbye and just when you were about to leave. You felt his small hand pull your skirt.
“Auntie Y/N, wait!”
“Little Jack! I thought you were asleep.”
Jack shook his head as he rubbed his little eyes with the back of his hand.
“What’s wrong, little Jack?”
“Could you sing me a lullaby, please? My mom always sings me one, but she’s not here.” .- Jack looked at you with his little eyes pleading for you to stay and you did. You thought for a moment about what song to sing to him, until you remembered the old lullaby your mother used to sing.
“Of course I do, little Jack, and I'm sure you'll love this song.” .- You pressed Jack’s cheek with your fingers, which made him smile.
You started humming the melody of the song to lull Jack to sleep.
Moon River.
Wider than a mile.
I’m crossing you in style some day.
Jack yawned, to which you stroked his hair with your hand.
Oh, dream maker.
You heartbreaker.
Wherever you’re goin’.
I’m goin’ your way.
While you were singing, you felt someone watching you, but you decided to focus on lulling to Jack.
Two drifters.
Off to see the world.
There’s such a lot of world to see.
Jack was falling asleep, your lullaby was working, and as you lulled him to sleep you felt a very tender warmth in your heart.
We’re after the same rainbow’s end.
Waitin’ ‘round the bend.
My huckleberry friend.
Moon River… And me.
When you finished singing Jack had fallen sound asleep, you smiled and stroked his hair and placed a kiss on his forehead.
“Good night, little Jack.” .- You whispered to say goodbye to Jack as you left Abigail's tent.
You were about to go to your tent when you ran into Arthur, who had an expression you hadn't seen in all these years you've known him. He had taken off his hat and was holding it in his hands, his blue eyes were glassy as if he wanted to shed a few tears, but he didn't want to because of his pride and his mouth was open in amazement.
"Arthur? Are you all right?"
Arthur was completely speechless. You called out to him again but he only looked at you with his intense blue eyes. Before you could do anything else, you noticed that Arthur was starting to smile. He had a smile you hadn't seen in a long time and in the blink of an eye he gave you a big hug.
You screamed his name as he wrapped you in his strong arms, he didn't care that everyone in the camp was watching you two hugging, to Arthur it was just you and him in those moments. You tried to resist, but you couldn't help but melt under Arthur's firm but warm grip, it was everything you had ever dreamed of for so long.
They stayed like that for a few moments, until you two separated from the hug.
"Please come to my tent." .- Arthur said, saying that more as an affirmation than asking your permission.
You sighed and resigned yourself to following Arthur to his tent, and when they arrived you didn't take long to confront him.
"Arthur, what's happening to you? Why are you acting so strange today?"
Arthur gave a deep sigh before looking directly into your eyes.
"I'm sorry if I've bothered ya, Y/N. But since I saw you taking care of Jack, I couldn't help but go straight to you." .- Arthur said, placing his hat on the nightstand.
"I... I've always seen a lot of Isaac in Jack..."
Your eyes widened when Arthur mentioned his deceased son, you couldn't believe it, it was the first time he had talked about Isaac in a long time, you comforted him when his son and his partner passed away. Since then Arthur was never the same, but you were there for him.
"But today you... You reminded me a lot of Eliza."
Now you were the one who was speechless, your mouth opened and you covered yourself with your hand, you got to know Eliza, and certainly you and her didn't have much in common, neither physically nor in personality.
Seeing your confusion, Arthur took you by your hands.
"Y/N, you are the mother of this gang, you take care of everyone, you are a very hard-working, caring and loving woman, but you also know how to defend yourself. I've seen you shoot many guys with a rifle, just because they spoke badly to Tilly!"
This made you laugh and Arthur smiled again.
"Hey, those bastards deserved it! Nobody messes with my Tilly!"
Arthur just nodded in agreement with you.
"You are absolutely wonderful, and when I came back and saw you taking care of Jack, I thought you looked like an angel."
This compliment from Arthur made you blush and you gave him a little tap on his shoulder.
"Arthur, be serious!"
"It's true! When you were taking care of Jack, I felt like I should be with you and Jack."
"That's why you didn't want to leave me alone with Jack. You wanted to be with me and him.”
"I would never have done that."
You placed a hand on your chest and you felt your heart beating fervently for Arthur, and he was starting to feel nervous in your hold, you felt his hands sweat a little.
"And when I saw you singing a lullaby to Jack, I felt, I felt..."
"Did you feel pain from remembering Eliza and Isaac?" .- You said, fearing you had hurt Arthur in some way, but he put his firmer grip on your hands.
"Yes, at first I felt pain from remembering them, but I also felt like I was healing."
"Healing? But from what?"
"Because you made me see that, maybe it's not too late for me..."
Arthur paused for a moment before continuing.
"Maybe it's not too late to find love again, to be a father... And maybe it's not too late for us."
A blush rose to your cheeks again at Arthur's words.
"Arthur, are you saying what I’m thinking?"
Arthur took your hands firmly again and pulled you closer to him.
"I should have told you this a long time ago, Y/N. But please be mine; I don't want to lose you like I lost Mary and Eliza, I want to be with you."
You were so shocked, you couldn't believe what Arthur was saying, it was everything you had always wanted him to tell you for so long. He was speaking to you with all his heart, but you still couldn't help but ask what he was saying.
"Arthur, do you love me?"
"I've been doing it for a long time, Y/N. I should have been with you, instead of wasting so much time, forgive me for being a fool."
"Yes, you really have been a big fool." .- You laughed again while Arthur shrugged his shoulders.
"But you're my fool." .- You gave Arthur a smile as you stroked his scratchy beard with your soft hand, you noticed that Arthur melted under your touch.
"Arthur, I love you too, I've loved you since I met you. I denied my feelings for you, because of my responsibilities and because I knew that you loved Mary and Eliza too, but now I see that you love me too."
"And I always will, darlin’, I always will."
"And I will too, my love."
Arthur gave you a big hug again, this time he picked you up, you laughed, you felt like your feet were floating and you held on tighter, when he put you down he was about to kiss you on your lips, but you stopped him with your fingers while you laughed.
"Hey!"
"Not so fast, cowboy! I wish we could go slower."
"We've known each other for years!"
"We have been friends for years, not being a couple!"
Arthur let out a snort, but he wasn't upset, rather he seemed more motivated to win you over.
"Jesus, woman! Do you want me to take you on dates?"
"Yes, it would be right."
"Do you have the night free?"
"To be honest, I was going to lie down on my cot, I'm exhausted."
"We could sleep in my tent."
At Arthur's insinuation you elbowed him again, but it was a softer one.
"I think it would be better if we had a date tomorrow."
"Tomorrow morning?"
"At night, you know that you and I will be busy tomorrow."
"Tomorrow at night?"
"It's a date." .- You said as you raised your feet on tiptoe and gave Arthur a kiss on the cheek, this made his cheeks blush and he smiled with the silliest smile you had ever seen on him.
You and Arthur were so wrapped up in yourselves that you didn't notice when John and Abigail returned to the camp, you stepped away from Arthur for a moment when you saw John and your expression went from calm to furious in seconds.
"JOHN MARSTON!"
John froze when you yelled at him and he saw you quickly approaching him.
"Now what did I do?!"
"WHAT DIDN'T YOU DO, YOU LITTLE PIECE OF MAN, COME HERE NOW!"
John knew perfectly well that he couldn't say anything to you when you were angry, he only had one last option.
Run.
So you chased after John, who was running away from you as if he was escaping from the Pinkertons, and just like you said you would, you weren't going to leave John unpunished. Abigail didn't stop you from chasing John, in fact she also laughed when you did it, he deserved it after all.
Arthur burst out laughing at this scene, god, you were sweet but you were also strong and fierce. He felt so bad for wasting so much time and he felt so lucky to have you.
What Arthur wanted most was right in front of him all this time and it was you, and he would never trade you for anything in the world.
And who knows? Maybe in some not-too-distant future, you and he can have your own place, get married and start a family together. You would be a great mom and Arthur would be a great dad.
