Chapter Text
Katsuki marched around his apartment, his feet angrily slapping against the floor. It wasn’t supposed to end up like this. They were supposed to be competing for the rest of their lives, make an agency together, live together.
He groaned and threw himself on his cheap couch–like everything he owned since he put half of his paycheck to the side for Izuku. His arm fell over his eyes and he thought about everything since the war. Katsuki couldn’t sleep at night without thinking of Izuku. Izuku lost One For All. Katsuki grieved for him. They graduated. Katsuki became a pro. Izuku became a teacher.
Now, Katsuki still finds himself waking in the middle of the night, his breathing ragged as he sees Izuku fight for him as he dies. But that is why he is doing this, why he made a suit for Izuku, so they can become heroes together.
But, how can he do this now that he was involved with Uraraka? How could he bring himself to continue to think about Izuku now that he had someone? He couldn’t.
He just couldn’t.
So he continued on living his life; wake up at 5, start patrol at 7, get home at 9. It never had any bumps, weird turns or anything to stop and admire. It was everything he dreamed of, but at the same time, it was the reason why he doesn't sleep at night.
When he went to work he thought of Izuku, waking up at the same time as him, and pulling on his well fitting suit, getting ready to teach the new generation of heroes. When he went home, he thought of Izuku getting ready for bed after grading their work. When he went to bed, he thought of Izuku, thinking of Uraraka, then he closed his eyes.
He woke up, his breath stopping in his throat. Today they were supposed to meet up today, all of Class A, and that’s all his brain could think about. He picked out his clothes, nice enough to look presentable, but not too fancy to look out of the ordinary.
But he still had normal patrol today, so instead of overthinking everything, he pulled on his costume over his head and started his short walk to his agency. The one he wanted to start with Izuku.
“Dynamight!” Kirishima waved from where he waited in the lobby. “There you are, we have patrol together today so I thought that it would be nice to meet you here.”
Katsuki smiled, then caught himself, coughing into his hand. “Yeah, let me just get my gauntlets.” He walked into his small office and grabbed his extra pair of gauntlets (the ones in the apartment were for emergencies).
Kirishima waited until Katsuki walked out of the room, walking to the doors that led them outside. “It's an easy day today, no missions planned for either of us!”
He hummed, sparing his energy for later. It was early in the morning and Katsuki was too deep in his own thoughts to even start to think about coffee in the morning. So they made their way down the streets, checking up on civilians who called their names, asking for a picture together.
“You are going to the dinner tonight right?” Kirishima asked once they neared the end of patrol, his feet dangling over the tall building, the gentle breeze cutting through his red hair.
Katsuki hummed from the air conditioning unit he sat on, one knee bent, the other foot swinging back and forth. “Yeah, It’s been awhile since I’ve seen everyone.” He just wanted to see how Izuku was doing, but he didn’t need to know that.
Kirishima turned his head, looking in his direction. “Are you okay, dude? You’ve just been quite this whole time.” Katsuki shook his head and rested his head on his hand.
“I’m fine.” He mumbled back and let Kirishima return his gaze to the landscape of their city, the lights bright but comforting. “I’m still picking you up right?”
“Yeah, Midoriya said he needed a ride too, can you do that?”
“Sure.”
Now here he was, waiting for Kirishima to get out of his apartment and to tell him where Izuku was. He put the car in park and picked up his phone, mumbling until Kirisima opened the door with a sigh.
“Sorry.” He flopped down and yawned. “Oh, Midoriya said he was still at UA.”
Katsuki nodded and waited until Kirishima buckled his seatbelt until he set off for the large school.
He bit his cheek as he watched Izuku wave them down with that large smile on his face.
“Kacchan! Thank you for taking me!” He climbed into the backseat, and stayed quiet for the whole ride.
The dinner was nice. He sat next to Izuku as he looked at Uraraka. He turned his head so that he didn’t interrupt whatever they had going on. He needed a drink. His friends caught up, Todoroki looked happy. He was happy for them. Izuku left for fresh air, so did Uraraka. Katsuki got his drink.
He was drunk, he was going to feel it in the morning, drunk. He went out to get fresh air, to see Izuku and Uraraka doing, well, something. He wasn’t sober enough to tell if it was platonic or not.
When it was time to head home, Kirishima passed him a tall glass of cold water and patted his back. “Don’t worry, I’ll drive us home.”
Katsuki didn’t care at that point, just mumbled something that even he couldn’t remember and let Kirishima lead him to his car. “Why did you slam yourself so much, you’re not usually like this.”
He didn’t want to say anything. Kirishima already was in a relationship, it’s not like he could understand what he was going through. “I loved him, Ejirou.” He couldn’t help the break of his voice and how it left Kirishima shocked.
“What changed?”
Katsuki shook his head and turned his head the other way, not giving him anything else. Kirishima sighed but closed the door and walked around to the driver side and started the car.
He looked out the window as he watched Izuku wave goodbye to everyone, his yellow backpack still swung over his shoulders. Kirishima started driving away, his vision got blurrier, Izuku slowly walked away.
Katsuki blinked and closed his eyes, greeting the darkness like an old friend. He really couldn’t do this anymore. Kirishima brought him home, dragged him upstairs, and crashed on his couch.
When Katsuki woke up, his head was pounding with the mistakes of last night and his mouth was dry as a bone. He walked to his kitchen, poured himself a glass of water and started up the shower.
He walked into his kitchen and flopped down on the wooden chair, his head falling to his hand. Kirishima was walking around his kitchen, making a small breakfast. His eyes looked over to where Katsuki was, his fingers picking at the skin around his nail.
“Here, you need to eat something.” Kirishima placed a plate in front of him and Katsuki closed his eyes, the headache still pounding through his skull. He sighed and started to eat the simple breakfast.
Kirishima sat across from him, his phone in hand, frantically typing something most likely to Mina. “So what happened last night?” He asked, placing his phone face down on the table.
“What do ya mean?” Katsuki asked, trying to stay oblivious. He took a long sip of the water in front of him and Kirishma sighed.
“You got drunk as hell, which is unlike you, and you told me that you loved him.” He waited for him to say something. “Bakugou, what’s going on?”
Katsuki slammed the glass down. “Look, thanks for taking care of me, but if you’re just going to pick and prode at me, then fuck off.” He regretted it as soon as he said it.
Kirishima shook his head. “I’m trying to make sure you’re okay before I run away. If you need to talk, just text me.” He stood from the chair, grabbed his belongings and walked out the door without a proper goodbye.
He fucked up. He always did. He stood up and gathered his plate and stomped to the sink where he found his dishes clean and put away. Fuck. He washed his plate and flopped to his couch, the broken down cheap couch that he made his friend sleep on while he was having a love crisis.
His phone was plugged in at the side table by his bed, where Kirishima left it plugged in after he tugged him up to his apartment and forced him into new clothes. Fuck. He really didn’t deserve them.
Katsuki opened his phone to look at the notifications, Mina, Sero, and Auntie Inko. He looked straight down to what his Aunt said.
Auntie
Your parents wanted to have us and Izuku over for dinner soon but she said that you wouldn’t respond if she texted you, so I’m a runner up! Just tell me when you’re free! Xoxo
Damn it. Why did they want to see him when he was having the worst time of his life with Izuku? Maybe he’ll just say he’s busy until next month.
Sero
yo dude you good? you got really shitfaced last night.
Why did Sero text him? He must’ve seen Kirishima haul him out yesterday. Did that mean that the whole class saw him?
Mina
Bakugou! Kiri messaged me last night, u ok? I did see Mido eyeing.
God did he really have to do that? Now two people knew that he was having Izuku problems and one knew that he got back fucked up last night. And surely there was more.
He clutched his head as it pounded harder. Fuck. Then his phone pinged, sharp and ear piercing. He pulled it up and almost dropped his phone back down.
Izuku
Hey Kacchan, when you’re free, can we talk?
