   Summary

   Will Byers is depressed, easily hurt, all that jazz. He’s never been exactly comfortable with who he is, being a gay boy in the 1980’s throughout an openly homophobic town (and the overwhelming thought that, ‘if anyone knew, he’d be dead). With being tortured constantly with memories of the Upside Down (even though all of that is over) and struggling with internal conflicts, he has always been prone to..shut down. Ignore people, stop them when they try to help him. Pre-1985, it was usually all harmless (physically, I mean. Post-1985, he found himself getting into bad habits. Smoking, self-harm, withdrawing (which has really always been there if you look hard enough)....the list could go on. By 1987, he found himself drowning in it all, and he wasn’t sure if he could learn to swim through it all.
