Work Text:
Chief Alonzo nodded at a few people as he entered the station. He hadn't been by the 118 in quite a long time and decided to stop by since he was already in the area.
He was only halfway up the stairs to the loft when he heard a commotion that had him moving a little faster.
The chief could barely believe what he was seeing. Captain Nash was assaulting one of his firefighters! And no one in the station was moving to help the young man out!
He had heard the noise so he knew that the others had as well.
"Captain Nash! Unhand him immediately!"
The older man jumped back from the young firefighter like he had been burned.
"Chief Alonzo! I wasn't aware that you were coming by today."
Alonzo ignored him for the moment and turned to the firefighter who had been assaulted. His tag said Buckley.
"Firefighter Buckley, are you alright?"
Buckley glanced at his captain before responding. "Yes, sir."
"Good. I still want one of the paramedics to check you out before I leave." The young man nodded before hurrying off. "Captain Nash, I want to see you in your office NOW."
The two men walked in silence until the office door was closed.
"If I hadn't seen it for myself, I would have never believed that you were capable of assaulting one of your own people!"
Nash flinched but Alonzo didn't let that stop him.
"I will be calling in another captain to take over for you. Once they are here, I expect you to head directly to headquarters where we will be meeting with HR. I will also be meeting with Buckley and HR later today!"
Nash continued to remain silent which was for the best. Alonzo hadn't been this mad in a long time.
"In the time it takes the other captain to get here, you are to leave Buckley alone! If I find out you gave that young man any grief, I will suspend you immediately!"
Nash agreed to leave Buckley alone until after the meeting. Alonzo stared at him as he tried to decide if he could trust the Captain. He had thought he could trust the other man with one of his most problematic stations. But he was wrong.
Finally, he nodded and headed out to find the young firefighter.
**************************
Alonzo walked out onto the floor but couldn't see the other firefighters yet. But he could definitely hear them.
"Did you seriously just get Bobby in trouble, Buck? You can't act like a grown-up for even a day?"
Alonzo stepped around the ambulance and caught sight of Buckley with several other firefighters. He quickly placed the voice and glared at Howard Han.
"Firefighter Buckley didn't get anyone in trouble, Han! He was assaulted by his captain. If I hear you harassing Buckley again, you will be asked to leave the station for the day!"
Hen Wilson quickly pulled her partner back, realizing that the situation was much more serious than Chimney saw.
"Buckley, walk me outside."
He heard the younger man scramble to catch up to him. He remained silent until they were out of earshot of the others.
"What I saw today was unacceptable for the LAFD. Do not ever let anyone treat you like that. As soon as a replacement shows up, I will be meeting with HR and Captain Nash. He is not to mess with you in the meantime. And when your shift is over, I expect you to show up for your own meeting with HR and me to explain what happened from your point of view."
He saw a nervous look flash over Buckley's face.
"You are not in trouble in this situation. But we do need to speak with you both to get a full picture of what happened before I showed up."
Buckley agreed to head directly over after his shift before he hurried back inside.
Alonzo watched him go and decided to try and convince the young man to take a transfer to another station. He wasn't sure he was comfortable allowing Nash to remain his captain.
