Chapter Text
The basement smelled of mildew and dust, the air thick and heavy, as if the weight of years pressed down on Sir’s chest. It had been a long time since he had been down here, yet the memories of those early days—her frightened eyes, her soft voice calling out for help—had never left him. Gabi. The girl he had taken, the girl he had locked away to protect her. To love her.
His chains rattled softly as he shifted, the cold metal biting into his wrists, as if reminding him of the cost of his obsession. He closed his eyes and let the memories wash over him, taking him back to the time when it had all begun.
It wasn’t supposed to unfold like this.
Initially, Sir believed he was simply keeping Gabi safe. She was just a girl—radiantly young, bursting with vitality, and blissfully ignorant of the myriad dangers that lurked beyond the edges of her vibrant world. Sir himself was a fractured man, permanently scarred by the darkest facets of humanity. He had witnessed the brutal theft of those he cherished, their lives snatched away in merciless and heart-wrenching ways. The world had shown him no kindness, and he had sworn an oath that it would never rip Gabi from his grasp.
For a time, he observed her from the shadows, absorbing the essence of her joy. She was a dazzling presence, glowing with beauty and life, always encircled by friends and family who laughed and celebrated her vibrant spirit. Yet, Sir understood a harsh truth: that freedom was a fragile illusion. No one remained untethered for long; life had a way of ensnaring even the most innocent. The world took relentlessly, leaving behind only fragments of dreams, shattered and unforgiving.
Gabi didn’t deserve what happened to her. She deserved to be protected and loved. To him, that meant keeping her away from the dangers lurking outside.
He had taken her when she was still a child—innocent and unaware of what was happening. The first few days were the hardest. Gabi’s cries echoed in his ears; her desperate pleas for freedom haunted him. But he told himself it was for her own good. She was angry and scared, and she didn’t understand yet. But she would.
He had kept her safe. He had provided everything she needed: food, shelter, and the protection she couldn’t find in the outside world. He had offered her his love and care in the only way he knew how—his twisted, broken version of love.
In those early days, he had made a conscious effort to keep his distance from her. After all, he reminded himself repeatedly, she was just a child—innocent and vulnerable, deserving of protection and care. At first, he even regarded her as if she were a daughter, nurturing a sense of paternal affection that felt safe and comfortable. However, as time passed, he began to notice a shift within himself. His feelings evolved, as they often do, morphing from a protective love into something far more complex—something darker and much deeper than he had ever anticipated.
He could clearly recall the moment his emotions transformed, a scene etched into his memory with an almost painful clarity. Gabi sat on the floor of his makeshift living room, engrossed in her puzzle. The colorful pieces were scattered around her, and her brow was furrowed in intense concentration as she tried to fit them together. He watched her, entranced by the sight of her determination and innocence. With each piece she selected, something inside him twisted—an unsettling mixture of admiration and longing.
Suddenly, she looked up and caught his gaze. In that brief moment, she smiled, her eyes sparkling with brightness and an unreserved trust that warmed his heart. It was a pure, genuine look—the kind of trust that, under different circumstances, could blossom into a beautiful bond. Yet, in that instant, he understood that this trust was fragile and that she would never offer it so freely again.
In the warmth of her smile, Sir glimpsed everything he had longed for.
She was the embodiment of perfection in his eyes—everything he could ever need. And in quiet moments, he knew she needed him just as deeply. This connection transcended mere protection; it evolved into a profound desire to possess her, to keep her by his side, all for himself.
His feelings shifted slowly, like shadows creeping across the floor. At first, he fought against it, attempting to bury the growing warmth within him. But the harder he tried to resist, the more unavoidable it became. Whenever she was close, his heart raced with a newfound urgency. He cherished the way her voice danced through the air when she called his name, melodic and sweet, stirring something deep within him. Her laughter, bright and infectious, filled the vacant spaces of the basement, wrapping around him like a comforting embrace, echoing through his very being. And then there were those moments when she looked up at him, her wide, trusting eyes sparkling with innocence and hope, effortlessly drawing him deeper into her world.
It wasn’t long before Sir began to see Gabi not merely as a child or a girl in need of protection, but as the very center of his universe—the one indispensable part of his life that made him feel truly complete. This shift in perception transformed his feelings into something all-consuming, driving him to foster and cultivate that love with unwavering dedication, much like tending to a flickering flame that grew more intense with each passing day.
He cherished the moments when she leaned on him, her small frame trembling slightly as she faced her fears. It was a simple gesture, yet it sent a surge of warmth through him, solidifying his sense of purpose. She would often seek his comfort during those times when the outside world felt overwhelmingly harsh and unforgiving, burdened by its coldness. Each of those instances only served to deepen his fixation, reinforcing the belief in his mind that he alone could provide her solace and safety.
Sir spun a narrative for himself, convincing his heart and mind that he was the only one who genuinely understood her struggles, her hopes, and her dreams. In his eyes, the outside world was a ruthless place, fraught with dangers lurking around every corner. But he was always there, a steadfast guardian, willing to shield her from all the threats that life could hurl at them. In his resolve, he vowed to protect her, not just for the present, but for eternity, ready to stand as her unwavering shield against the cruelties of the world.
As the days transformed into weeks and weeks into months, Gabi began to undergo a profound transformation. No longer did she resemble the frightened little girl who had been unwittingly thrust into this bewildering new life. Instead, she blossomed into a strong, intelligent young woman, exuding a beauty that took Sir completely by surprise. Her laughter became melodic, her confidence radiant; with each passing day, she captivated him more deeply.
At first, Sir fought against the growing tide of his feelings. In his eyes, Gabi remained the tender, innocent child he had vowed to protect. Yet, as time wore on, that innocence began to give way to a compelling allure that stirred something within him—a longing to be close, to hold her, to be the unwavering anchor she could lean on. This desire enveloped him, overwhelming his senses and clouding his judgment.
For so long, he had believed his intentions were noble, that he was safeguarding her from danger. But now, as he observed her transformation, he found himself grappling with a realization that sent shivers down his spine; he wanted her in ways that defied reason, in ways that breached sacred boundaries. The thrill of these forbidden thoughts was intoxicating yet terrifying, plunging him into a moral quagmire that threatened to consume them both.
Sir closed his eyes, allowing the rush of memories to wash over him like a relentless tide. Each recollection brought with it a familiar and profound emptiness, a feeling that had haunted him for what seemed like an eternity. He had always envisioned himself as Gabi's anchor, the one person she would turn to in times of need, the guardian she could trust without hesitation. Yet, deep down, he understood that she had never belonged to him in the way he had so desperately hoped. In her eyes, he had never occupied the role of the protector he believed himself to be, and that realization gnawed at his heart.
The painful truth settled heavily on his shoulders: Gabi had never truly been his, not in any meaningful sense. While she had literally been his captive—bound and confined—she had never been his partner in life. The bond he had imagined between them, one of mutual trust and love, had never materialized.
Still, he could not accept that harsh reality. The thought of letting her go was unbearable. Not after all he had sacrificed to keep her safe, not after the countless moments they had shared, both traumatic and tender. Sir’s mind raced with the memories of those fleeting glances and whispered words, echoing the hope he had always clung to.
As he shifted his gaze down to the chains wrapped tightly around his wrists, he felt their cold metal digging into his skin, a stark reminder of his current predicament. It was humiliating to think that he had allowed Gabi to lock him away, to bind him in such a way. But now, as that realization settled in, he felt a surge of determination rising within him. He couldn’t remain a passive prisoner any longer.
He needed to reach her. He needed to make her understand the depths of his feelings, to show her that their connection ran far deeper than mere circumstance. They were meant to be together, he was certain of it. In his heart, he believed they were perfect for each other, and it was time for her to see it as well. With a newfound resolve, he prepared to fight for the love he had dreamed of, against all odds.
It was only a matter of time before she would realize that.
