Work Text:
A girl in the station lot, no older than sixteen, was crying and holding the smallest baby Buck had ever seen.
“Are you a firefighter?”
“Yes.”
“Here.” The girl reached out with the baby, wrapped in a t-shirt. Buck took the baby, afraid she’d drop it if he didn’t. “I just can’t.”
The girl turned and ran.
“Wait! Wait! We can help you!” But she was gone.
Buck yelled for help, set the abandoned baby on the Jeep’s seat, and checked her vitals. She opened her eyes, and Buck fell in love.
Eddie was the first outside. “Oh, Eddie,” sighed Buck, turning to look at his husband. “She’s beautiful. Can we . . .”
Eddie stroked her cheek. “Yes. Of course.”
