Chris would barely talk to Eddie for ten minutes, but in the nine days since Buck had shown him some British game show called “Countdown,” they’d spent eight hours on the phone. Eddie knew exactly how long; he had access to Chris’s phone bill.
Eddie could not understand the appeal. Buck had forced him to watch seven (seven!) episodes Saturday, and six beers later, Eddie was still confused. And bored. Hell, he’d been bored five minutes in.
He tried not to resent Chris and Buck’s time. He wanted the three of them to be a family, and if those two were talking, it was better than nothing. Eddie could live with being the one left out for now.
