Work Text:

Pete and Patrick are best friends, best friends to the end, some would say. They hung out together a fair lot, and enjoyed being near eachother. The two were practically stuck together like glue. Sometimes, people suspected that maybe, just maybe, they had feelings for one another, but nobody can tell the difference between platonic duos and romantic duos anymore..

“Hm. Maybe if the bass line goes like this for part of it, it’ll sound better?” Pete said as he played a nice, perfect if you might, bass line he had come up with for a song. Patrick thought the song sounded amazing, but Pete kept insisting on something crucial being missing - he just couldn’t figure out what it was.

Patrick thought that the bass line was good, yeah, but the one he had come up with was perfectly fine, but he’s not about to argue with Pete about music. Sometimes, it feels like Pete is the creator of music, to Patrick atleast. Pete continued on playing the line, trying to tempt Patrick into putting it into the song.

“I don’t know, Pete..” Patrick said softly, which was a lie, he knew the line was most likely better than the one he came up with, but he wasn’t gonna let Pete defeat his talent that easily. Pete frowned, but continued playing the line. He was probably gonna do this until Patrick said yes to it being in the song.

“Come on, Patrick, please?” Pete begged, frowning softly as he kept playing the line. The line was better than the one Patrick wrote, but he wanted to know why Pete was so stuck on this one. His gaze lingered around the room, his ears still ringing with the bassline. He probably was gonna say yes, but he wanted to make it a challenge for Pete. Maybe he would - make Pete do a ballerina dance? He wasn’t sure yet.

“I- Okay, um.. What if you do something for me, then I’ll say yes?” Patrick asked softly, smiling slightly as he thought of what he was gonna ask Pete to do, it was a small favour anyway. He noticed a glimpse of hope and happiness in the others eye, watching as Pete smiled widely, almost squealing with excitement (both of them, to be exact).

“Are you serious? Yes!! What’s the thing?” Pete said quickly, excitement hinting in his voice. Silence took over the room for a moment, since Pete had stopped playing, and Patrick was busy thinking. This was probably the dumbest idea Patrick ever had - and he’s never had any dumb ideas before. This could either end up really good, or really bad. He didn’t have the power to control what Pete was gonna do or say; so he had to muster up the courage to say it quickly and fast, before the silence was too long for comfort.

“Um.. You know uh, I’ve uh… Never kissed someone before- So, like. I was wondering if maybe, I could like, practice kisses with you?” Patrick said quickly, stumbling over his words. He knew three ways this could go: 1. Pete would be disgusted, say no, and never talk to Patrick again. 2. Pete would say yes. and.. 3. Pete would think it was a joke, and not do anything. There was only one way that Patrick wanted the favour to go.

Pete’s face went from a cheerful expression, to one Patrick couldn’t figure out. “Huh? I mean, I'm not like.. confused? Is this a joke? If it’s not then like, I’d be down to help you out cause you know, that’s what friends are for. But, is it a joke?” He said with a strange expression, his voice slowing down the more words slid out of his mouth.

Uh oh. Patrick was stumped - seriously. This was going bad. Well, it wasn’t a joke, so he could say that, it wasn’t a joke. That would be easy, very easy.

“No, it’s not a joke.” Patrick said quietly, frowning slightly. Well, it wasn’t so bad. Pete would help him out, right? He said he would. Though he’s a frequent liar, Pete wouldn’t lie in a situation like this one. So, maybe he would do the favour, but the only thing Patrick could think of to try and get him to do it was hope and try to convince him. Plus, friends kiss all the time, don’t they?

“Oh, um. Okay. So like- you want me to teach you?” Pete asked, his expression changing to a more calm one. Patrick nodded, shuffling closer to the other. The two awkwardly stared at eachother, Pete placing his hands on Patrick’s chin, the other slightly adjusting his posture. Silence was the only thing that had filled the room, except for the sound of breathing, hearts pounding, and shuffling.

“So like- First you gotta get the other person into like the mood, ya know?” Pete explained, smiling slightly. Patrick nodded softly. “I’m not gonna try that on you, don’t worry. Second, you gotta like make the move, to actually kiss them. So be like.. I dunno. Just get closer to them - flirt a bit, you gotta know that they wanna do it first, though. So like, maybe you’ll both lean in at the same time, I don’t know. Just make sure they’re comfortable. Or, let them kiss you first, like this.” Pete explained, before placing a quick kiss on Patrick’s lips, who could swear on all his hats that he saw fireworks go off when it happened.

Pete pulled away after a few seconds later, continuing to explain how a kiss should go. “Okay, so.. After the kiss, the two people could like, kiss more, or just chill. I think the important thing to remember before kissing someone is that it should be someone you trust, which, I think I haven’t followed that rule a couple times, but it’s better to follow it than to not.” Pete explained softly, smiling brightly at Patrick, who could feel warm blush splattering onto his face, which was strange. Didn’t Pete say he wasn’t going to get him into that kind of mood?

Patrick could feel his face getting hotter, his breath getting heavier. He just needed to kiss Pete, right now. Whether it was sloppy or romantic, he didn’t care. He didn’t want to, but he just needed to. His mysterious feelings that he had for Pete were already bad before, but they had skyrocketed out of the universe now. His hands started aching, and before he knew it, he had pulled Pete’s face towards him, kissing him roughly.

A spring of energy ran through Patrick. He wrapped his arms around Pete’s neck, starting to make out with him. Pete was clearly okay with making out with him, especially with the fact that his hands were now technically glued to the sides of Patrick’s face. The only thing that could be heard was probably the shuffling of clothes and bed sheets from them adjusting their sitting positions every five seconds to get more ‘comfortable’, but there were way too many feelings, ones that only the two could ever feel, could ever figure out.

The two practically had sweat trickling down their faces once they pulled apart. Maybe that wasn’t just a, ‘practice kiss’, but they could talk about that another day. The one thing Patrick knew was that Pete’s bassline was definitely gonna be in the song, no matter who decided against it.
