Hua Cheng was kissing him.
Xie Lian was perched on Hua Cheng’s lap, arms wrapped around his neck, enjoying the warmth of their bodies pressed together and the feel of their lips reacquainting themselves with each other once again.
In a distant, cloudy part of his mind, some vague thought tried to make itself known. Tucked inside Hua Cheng’s embrace though, Xie Lian couldn’t even begin to care and so it slipped away, gone too soon to even be forgotten.
Air finally made its demands, and reluctantly Xie Lian gave in, pulling back from Hua Cheng just enough to sip in a breath or two before pressing kisses against his cheek, his neck, anywhere he could reach.
“Gege, Gege…are you sure you have to go to that meeting? Just ditch them to come and play with me for a while,” he whispered, nipping Xie Lian’s ear, and sending a delightful zing through his body. Then it hit him.
Meeting?
Meeting?!
“Xie Lian! The meeting has already started. Where the hell are you?!” Mu Qing’s voice rang with annoyance in Xie Lian’s head, and he winced.
“Don’t yell at His Highness! He said he needed spiritual power before coming up here, dumbass!” Feng Xin’s equally loud voice caused Xie Lian to actually flinch this time, and Xie Lian rubbed his temple.
Hua Cheng, ever in tune to Xie Lian, pressed a soothing kiss to his forehead. A few stray butterflies also fluttered over to land on it just long enough to ease the ache before wandering away.
“I’m the dumbass?! Do you honestly think it takes twenty minutes to transfer spiritual power?! Most likely His Highness got distracted with that Ghost King of his. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he completely forgot about the spiritual –”
Xie Lian cut in very quickly at that point.
“Apologies for the delay, everyone! I’ll be up there shortly.”
“Xie Lian?!”
“Your Highness?!”
“Gege, I have a lot of free time to spare right now. Maybe I should join you and the others today?”
Hua Cheng’s voice, smooth and deep, curled lovingly around his endearment, piercing his heart tenderly like it always did. At the same time, the arrogant disdain in his voice when addressing “the others” kicked up Xie Lian’s heart, and made his toes curl. Fortunately, a voice of reason cut in before Xie Lian could, once again, get distracted.
“Take all the time you need, Your Highness. We’ll catch you up to speed when you arrive.” “
Thank you, General Pei.”
Despite a few meager grumblings, the issue had been settled and Xie Lian closed off communication.
“Gege needed more spiritual power?” Hua Cheng asked, a devilish grin on his face. And, well, Xie Lian really only had himself to blame.
He’d meant to mention his meeting in heaven, and need for spiritual power after a particularly long night of *ahem* late night activities with his husband, but, well…he’d found Hua Cheng in the armory, cleaning Eming with those graceful hands and clever fingers. His hair had been wild as usual, but all Xie Lian could think of was the night before when he —
“Gege?” Hua Cheng’s delighted laughter pulled Xie Lian back to the present. Despite his flaming cheeks, he couldn’t help but return Hua Cheng’s smile.
When the laughter had mostly died down, Xie Lian cleared his throat and nodded his head. Still softly chuckling, Hua Cheng leaned down to kiss him, and this time, Xie Lian felt the usual sensation of Hua Cheng’s spiritual power passing into him - cool and refreshing, energizing Xie Lian.
“Is that enough?” Hua Cheng whispered, pulling back slightly.
He really should get to that meeting. He really should –
“I think I need a little more, San Lang,” Xie Lian said. Hua Cheng grinned, enthusiastically accommodating as he leaned down again to meet Xie Lian’s lips.
In the end, Xie Lian did manage to make it to the heavenly meeting, forty minutes late and near to bursting with spiritual power.
