Work Text:
Oscar was never a big enjoyer of stargazing, contrary to his sisters, who loved dragging him to the garden when they were younger and started counting stars, laughing and giggling when they lost count and had to start again.
He was never interested in the name of the stars, the shape of the constellations are were in the great sky they were.
Something he found about them infuriating, maybe it was the fact that they were far away, unreachable, untouchable, so far from him that they almost didn't seem real.
But he was a kid. And the years passed, and he stopped caring about the stars and how far away they were because he had other things to worry about and other responsibilities.
The years kept passing and passing and Oscar couldn't stop them as much as he wanted. The years took so much from him. They took time. So much time. Time with his family, his friends, time going out to parties and time stargazing with his sisters and cursing them for forcing him to be there.
But it also gave him so many other things. It gave him his dream, racing among the greatest, winning races, fighting for that top step. It gave him new friends, friends that understood what he was going through, what worried him and what irritated him. It also gave him Carlos. Carlos who came into his life like a wrecking ball, destroying every single one of Oscar well-built walls with his selflessness and sweet smiles, with his horrible jokes and those soft, dark, stupidly gigantic eyes of his.
Time passed fast and Carlos was still there, like an anchor.
"I love stars" Carlos said, early into their relationship.
"I don't"
"Why?" He was whispering, as if the stars shining above them could hear them.
"I don't know. I just never liked them" Oscar was whispering as well. The night breeze made him wrap his arms around himself.
"That's because you don't know hot to appreciate them" Carlos was now embracing Oscar, in hopes of making him warmer. With his hand on Oscar's chin, he tilted his head up.
"Look at the stars Oscar, look how beautiful they are" Carlos soft voice and breath tickled his neck, but he looked up, hoping to see that beautiful sight Carlos asked him to.
Then Carlos started pointing the constellations, Casiopea, Scorpio, Andromeda...
And Oscar turned to Carlos, who was mesmerized with the stars above them, and he finally found it.
Stars reflected on Carlos' dark eyes, making his face shine like a little kid's.
Oscar looked at him and the distinctive gleaming of his iris, a mirror of the infinite night sky.
Looking into those eyes, Oscar finally found the charm in stars.
