Even with his optics closed, Red Alert could feel a lack of someone in the berth. He had remembered going into recharge curled up to his partner.
Red Alert moved his hand around the berth, trying to find Skyfire.
He reluctantly opened his optics, and found that Skyfire wasn't in berth, instead, he was across the room.
“Sky…?” Red Alert mumbled.
“Oh. Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you.”
Red slowly got up. “Why are you up?”
“Tonight is the aurora borealis. I'm going to watch it for our reports.”
Red tilted his head. “Aurora borealis?”
Skyfire's optics brightened. “Yes, it's when small particles from the sun hit Earth's atmosphere, and bright colours are formed in the sky. From what I hear, it’s supposed to be beautiful.”
Red Alert moved off the berth. “Well, in that case, I'm coming with you.”
Skyfire's face softened. “Red, you don’t have to, it’s late.”
Red came up to his partner, grabbing on his hands. “I know. But you say it’s supposed to be beautiful. I’ll judge that for myself.”
Skyfire chuckled as he led them both out of the room.

Skyfire’s equipment was situated on the roof. The equipment being a chair and a camera with some blankets, perfect size for Skyfire, a little too big for Red Alert.
Red Alert sat on the chair as Skyfire readied his camera, and grabbed the blankets. Red scooched over, giving Skyfire room to sit down before climbing into his lap.
Skyfire draped the blankets over his own shoulders before doing the same to Red Alert. The smaller bot leaned back against Skyfire, snuggling into his chassis.
“So, when are we supposed to see these lights?”
“Hopefully soon.” Skyfire looked up at the sky, watching the little stars twinkle. Hypothetically, if he had a strong enough telescope, they would be able to see Cybertron from here.
Soon enough, small bits of colour started seeping into the sky.
“Red, look, it's starting.” Skyfire pointed up, and as the minutes passed by, the entire sky was lit up by colours.
Reds and greens danced across the sky, with purples coming in shortly. Skyfire took dozens of pictures, but they wouldn't do justice to the real thing.
He had enough photos for his research now, so he could sit back and watch the lights with his partner.
“I never seen anything like this,” Red Alert remarked. “Do they happen on Cybertron?”
Skyfire shook his head. “No, you need an atmosphere to get the auroras.”
Both of them simply fell silent as they watched the lights move across the sky, taking it all in.

“Red? Are you awake?”
It had been almost half an hour since they had come out onto the roof. Both of them had stayed silent as they watched the aurora, but Skyfire had barely felt Red Alert move.
He looked down, and sure enough, Red had fallen asleep, snoring softly. Skyfire simply smiled as he got up, and carried Red Alert back to their berth.
