-gang is in a boat á la "On the Waters" by Renaski
-only they were there to do... something??? (idk figure it out <3) and to do it they needed a distraction
-important to the AU, Leo has this ring that was like his mother's (or would've been if she had married)
-important because him and Nico get caught in the middle of the crowd and to provide the distraction Leo just drops down and proposes
-it's a very loud and exaggerated thing, but also he says only things that he feels abt Nico for real
-and Nico knows he has to play along, but Leo's saying all this heartfelt shit about him?
-also, Nico knew about the ring and that it was important to Leo
-and also, the ring was in one of those camera rolls cases, u know, the black ones with the plastic lids?
-Nico says yes, cause like, he's gotta, but like...
-And Leo is so gentle when he puts the ring on, and Nico like, cradles it once its in his hand (u know, gay shit)
-eventually they do whatever it was they were doing and return to land and it's like "this was nice while it lasted but time to go back to reality" sort of feeling
-and Nico goes to return the ring, even though he kind of doesn't want to (u know, for gay reasons)
-but like Leo is like, kind of dumb, cause he just gives the ring back in a necklace cuz he like, wasn't gonna ask for it back (also for gay reasons)
Addendum by @sorenissuffering on tumblr: "Engineers, after graduating, typically get a ring that they keep on their dominant hand pinky finger, there's a whole story behind it that you can look up if you want but it's not really relevant.
Considering how tiny Nico is compared to most grown adults, I think it'd be safe-ish to say that a ring that fit Esperanza's pinky could fit Nico's ring finger.
Anyway that is to say that it could give the ring even more meaning, because that's Leo's thing!!! He's an engineer and so was his mom and it's super special to him!! But he can't wear it because it doesn't fit him, and now he finds that it DOES fit Nico!!!!!!!"
