Entre Flores y Abrazos

Summary:

On returning from work, Marta surprises her pregnant wife with a bouquet of flowers, and together, they share moments of affection, laughter, and love while preparing dinner at home.

Notes:

Well, this little idea came up after I saw a Twitter account posting polls. The first poll was about Marta coming home and finding her very pregnant wife; she would kiss her on the lips and then kneel down to kiss her belly. The other poll was about who would give flowers to whom. That said, I combined the two polls and, boom, this story came out. I hope it’s acceptable, and please point out any mistakes, because English is not my first language.

Work Text:

It was a November afternoon, with the sun bidding farewell and painting the sky in shades of orange and purple. Marta was driving back home after a long day at Perfumerías de la Reina, and the stress seemed to dissipate with every kilometer she covered. She knew that, at the end of the day, her beloved wife, Serafina Valero, would be waiting for her.

Her wife was eight months pregnant, and Marta couldn’t contain her happiness at the thought that soon they would be a complete family. She had passed by the prettiest flower shop in town and bought a bouquet of white roses—her wife’s favorite flowers—to surprise her. As she parked the car in the garage, she grabbed the flowers and walked toward the front door, a hopeful smile on her face.

Upon entering the house, she was greeted by the soft sound of music coming from an old radio that Fina cherished, a reminder of her late father. Marta didn’t need to call her; Fina was in the living room, sitting comfortably in an armchair, gently caressing her round belly. Marta stood in silence for a few seconds, just watching her. Her mind could only describe the scene before her with one word: peace. As soon as she noticed that her wife had arrived home, Fina’s eyes lit up, and a sweet smile spread across her face. Marta walked toward her, her steps light and full of affection.

“Hola, mi amor,” she said, approaching her. She leaned in and gave Fina a soft kiss on the lips, feeling the deep connection they shared. Then, Marta knelt slowly to kiss Fina’s belly. “Hola, pequeña,” she murmured, smiling. “Mamá está en casa.”

Valero laughed softly, her eyes full of love and gratitude. “She’s eagerly waiting to meet you,” she said, stroking Marta’s hair.

Marta felt a little response—a slight kick, as if the baby knew that her mother was near. She stood up, handing her the bouquet of white roses. “For you,” she said, watching Fina’s expression of surprise and joy as she took the flowers.

“They’re beautiful, Marta. Thank you so much,” she replied, her eyes shining with emotion. “Shall we put them on the kitchen table?”

Marta agreed, and the two walked to the kitchen, where they placed the flowers in a crystal vase. The fragrance of the flowers blended with Fina’s perfume, creating an even more inviting atmosphere. Marta helped Fina sit in a comfortable chair, and before starting to prepare dinner, she decided to take a quick shower to refresh herself after the long day at work.

While Marta was in the shower, Fina stayed in the kitchen, caressing her belly and listening to the soft music coming from the radio. She felt a deep sense of peace, knowing that soon her family would be complete.

Marta emerged from the shower, feeling rejuvenated, and changed into comfortable clothes. When she returned to the kitchen, she found Fina smiling at the vase of flowers she loved.

“All set, I’m feeling refreshed now,” Marta said, with a sparkle in her eyes. “Let’s start dinner.”

She began preparing dinner, knowing how precious the moments they always shared in this kitchen were. While chopping the vegetables, Fina watched her lovingly.

“I love watching you cook,” Fina said, her eyes glowing with love. “You always put so much love into every dish.”

Marta smiled, taking a pan and starting to sauté the ingredients. “Every meal is a way to show you how much I love you,” she replied, not taking her eyes off what she was doing.

The sound of sizzling oil and the gentle slicing of the knife filled the kitchen, creating a domestic symphony. Fina leaned forward slightly, running her hand over her belly.

“She moved,” Fina said, laughing softly. “I think she likes the smell of dinner.”

Marta paused for a moment, turning to look at Fina. The image of her wife, radiant and pregnant, filled her heart with indescribable happiness. She approached and placed her hand on Fina’s belly, feeling a small movement.

“Our little one is already showing she has good taste!” Marta joked. “Just like you, Fina. Enchanted by the smell of any food.”

Fina laughed, her eyes filled with tenderness. “Just imagine, she’ll go straight from the crib to the kitchen, asking for food.”

Marta laughed loudly, caressing Fina’s belly. “I can already see her in a little apron, helping to make a mess while trying to cook.”

Fina nodded, taking Marta’s hand and gently squeezing it. “And it’s going to be amazing. The three of us, together.”

Marta kissed Fina’s forehead and went back to cooking, but now with an even bigger smile on her face. As she prepared the meal, she thought about the adventures that would come with the arrival of their daughter, knowing that every moment would be precious and unique. She prepared a vegetable stew with a touch of spices that Fina loved, accompanied by aromatic rice. As dinner neared completion, Fina got up and began setting the table, carefully arranging the dishes.

“Do you remember our first dinner here?” Fina asked as she placed the cutlery. “We were so nervous.”

Marta laughed at the memory. “Oh yes. I burned the sauce and almost set the kitchen on fire. But you made it look like everything was perfect.”

Fina laughed along with her. “Because it was. No matter what happened, we were together. And that was always the most important thing.”

Marta finished preparing dinner and carefully carried the pots to the table. With precise and attentive movements, she served the vegetable stew and aromatic rice onto the plates. They sat down, and in a loving gesture, their hands met over the table, sealing the connection that united them in that special moment.

“Life is full of surprises, isn’t it?” Marta said, looking at Fina and then at her belly. “And I wouldn’t trade any of this for anything in this world.”

Still holding Fina’s hand, Marta looked deeply into her eyes. “My love, you gave me light in the midst of so much darkness. Every day with you is like a new dawn. My great happiness, my sun and my sky, your smile is what I look for every morning. Every moment by your side is a gift, and I can’t wait to see our daughter grow surrounded by all this love.”

Fina smiled, looking at Marta with a mischievous gleam in her eyes. Playfully, she touched Marta’s face and said, “Oh, Marta, you can’t say such beautiful things to a woman with hormones all over the place, right? You’re making me all emotional!”

Then she took a deep breath and, with a soft smile, continued, feeling the tears of joy forming in her eyes. “Marta, my love, I love you in a way that I can’t even express, and I’m so grateful that we’re building this family together. Having you by my side is, without a doubt, the best thing that ever happened to me. When you look into my eyes, I feel like nothing can go wrong, and your hugs make me feel more alive and safe than ever.”

Fina smiled, feeling her heart overflowing with love. She placed her hand on her wife’s face and caressed it tenderly, still immersed in the warmth of the words she had just said. Marta, with her eyes shining with emotion, leaned in and gave Fina a soft kiss on the lips, as if every touch was a promise.

“I love you too, Fina,” Marta said, her voice soft and filled with sincerity. “And I promise I’ll always be by your side, for you and for our daughter, every step of this journey.”
Fina, looking deeply into Marta’s eyes, felt her heart overflow with gratitude. She replied, her voice shaky with emotion, “Together, we can face anything. And with our daughter, our love will only grow stronger.”

They embraced, feeling the warmth and security of the love they shared. In that embrace, everything seemed right. And so, that night, Marta and Fina felt more connected than ever, with the future ahead of them, ready to face it hand in hand, with hearts full of love and hope.
