Work Text:

“Castiel”

Sam stood outside on the park’s grass, having wandered there in what appeared to be the middle of the night.

“Castiel if you’re serious about this I need you to get that feathery ass down here.”

He swallowed his words, uneasy as he was if this was in fact an angel he realized he should probably speak with more respect right now, apologize for his past behavior, and atone for his sins. Though he had always been in the habit of praying and had picked It back up more seriously after getting to Stanford now he knew he might actually be doing something, that someone could be listening on the other side of this call, he had no clue how it actually worked.

“Castiel,”

He folded his hands, hoping the darkness of the hour would prevent any onlookers from seeing this strange behavior, he knew no other way.

“Castiel, I pray to you in my time of need.”

The world around him remained silent.

“I pray to you for my health, for prosperity, world peace?”

He held his eyes closed but occasionally tried to peek through one to see if anything was actually happening: there was not.

“I pray to you hoping you will hear me out. I thought about what you said the other day, about me and Jessica, I want your protection, I want immunity. So if there's any chance you’re hearing this…”

Still nothing

“I ask of you to give me a sign, ame-“

“So formal”

Startled Sam turned around, hands still in a half-prayer motion, there he saw a woman – tall, formal, brows furrowed.

“Castiel?” he guessed though the person he was looking at looked nothing like the stranger from the laundromat, nothing like the guy that had been stalking him for weeks

The woman nodded “In my vessel’s flesh.” This appeared to be an attempt at a joke, the woman leaving short silences between her words. She approached “We hadn’t expected you to summon us this early Sam.”

Sam looked at her, mouth slightly agape, unsure if it was an honor to meet this angel – the park had been empty just seconds ago – or if he should be worried that this stranger knew his name.

“I’m not who you expected?” her voice was relatively high-pitched and calm, her face showing no discernible emotion. The only thing she and her male variant, the man that shared her name, had in common appeared to be a long trench coat, the woman wearing hers with her hands in the pockets.

“It is efficient” she explained when she noticed him staring “One of the better items you ants have come up with in recent history.”

“Ants?” Sam was still stuck on her calling him by name, something considerably odd even when ignoring the blatant oddity of her just having materialized out of nothing. “You called me Sam?”

“I know who you are” the woman, Castiel, grasped Sam’s uneasily outstretched hand with both of hers “Sam Winchester, the demonblood boy.”
