As he ages, Mike can't resist the homosexual temptations that he often preaches against, and he hooks up with men outside of Hawkins, never seeing the same man twice and never kissing them; he cannot fathom the idea of being anything more than sexual with a man. Mike is sent into depression; he feels that this is retribution for his blatant disregard of God’s Word.

You wrapped your hand around my arm, the bicep, the space my mother used to occupy. I trembled, for a moment, shifted my weight further into my cane, pressing it deeper into the dirt. You tried to make it tender, make it soft, but your hands were so cold, and your nails so sharp, they sliced a slit through my sleeve, I felt the knuckle of your index finger against my skin.
It was merely trying because you didn't know how to do it properly. It hurt, still, slightly, but that wasn't what was worst.
‘Your death would be far from mercy.’
You rose your voice then, I could hear you in it then, not the breathy tone you used most often, but what lingered gentle in the background of it, a threat of what could be, but was being held back. It was burning wood, where I'd always known you to be snow.
But it didn't scare me. I didn't pull away. I told myself I hated it, but I stayed, lying, always a liar. Knowing I would pray later that night for the unnamed sins of the day, and this would be one. Not because I would forget, but because I would refuse to name it.
That I craved this devotion. This fire.

Short (unrelated to the plot) stories I have written while coming up with an au. I plan on actually writing The two Kings story however these are just small slice of life pieces I have written while ive been developing the different characters and have decided to post them as a small prequel to the actual story.
Please enjoy these chapters, I aimed to get atleast a thousand words in each one and intend on posting once a week.
The setting is based on a post war monarchy established by the two brothers in a bid for peace with the castle staff and guard being familiar faces from the usual ensemble.
