Chapter 1: His hands, my Heart

Summary:

You tend to Bakugou’s injured hands with a heavy heart. He didn’t tell you until days later, when the pain grew too heavy to bear alone. It's been four months since you've officially been together, and this small draw-back not only hurt but it seemed like a step backwards.

Under the weight of your silence, Katsuki opens up and what he asks, you least expected.

Chapter Text

Katsuki's eyes didn't leave your face as you opened the medicated burn cream he got from Recovery Girl.

You took a generous amount of the thick white substance from the pot and carefully applied it to his scarred palms.

He bit his lip when the coolness of the cream made contact with his burning skin.

This only happened when the hero, Dynamight overused his quick. His forearms would ache and feel strained. His hands would sting or burn unbearably—depending on how hard Katsuki pushed himself that day.

I wish he told me sooner.

His glare took in every detail of your face like a caress to your cheeks.

You've grown use his silent admiration, but it still made you blush.

You didn't shy away from it like you used to but his gaze still made your heart flutter.

You remained silent the whole time.

Katsuki could tell something was wrong.

You didn't hum a hymn under your breath.

Your face didn't even light up when he asked you to help him.

Katsuki would never admit it but every time you prayed over his hands—he recovered quicker. Whether it was God or his genetics—he didn't know. He thought it was both plus your gentle care. It was odd not hearing you mumble a soft prayer.

A melody barely audible played from the speaker in the corner of the living room.

“Are you mad?” he asked, making you pause mid-rub.

“No,” you said softly, lips in a flat line. “I’m... sad.”

You didn't look him in the eyes because you felt the waterworks at the back of your throat and you didn't want to cry.

Not over this.

Anyone would be upset if they knew their lover had been in pain holding it in—for more than a day. Three days, he waited until he confessed his hands and arms have been aching unbearably on and off.

It broke your heart.

Katsuki usually told you if his hands were hurting badly, he was opening up a lot more these days. He allowed you to pamper him on days like this—a rare treat you loved it.

Katsuki pulled his hands out of your embrace, causing you to look at him.“I should've told you.”

You felt the warmth of his touch inches away from your skin.

“I know you don't like it when hide things.” His hands hovered on the sides of your face. “I didn't think it was a big deal.”

You frowned and looked away.

Katsuki didn't understand.

“Baby,” his heart stung knowing that he was the reason why his lover was upset. “I'm sorry.”

Baby

You felt the wind knocked out of your lungs once.

“Sweetheart,” he purred, lifting up your chin to meet his eyes, those soft—lovesick—red irises you adored. “Talk to me.”

His voice was sweet like honey making you melt at the spot.

Butterflies invaded your chest, and your heart turned to wax.

You couldn't help but swoon when he used sweet endearments; it made your knees weak. It was a good thing you were both sitting on the couch, or else he'd have to catch you.

This man is going to kill me one of these days.

“Kat,” you grabbed hold of his hand. An light antiseptic scent mixed with herbs filled your nose—you ignored it and kissed the outside of his palm. “I care about you.”

His face flushed at your gentleness.

You were tickled pink at his reaction.

You loved it when he blushed—it was cute.

He was cute.

“Would you like if I didn't tell you I was hurting?”

“No,” was his immediate response topped by an angry scowl.

“It's the same for me,” then you kissed his forehead, and used your thumb to ease his furrowed brows.

You didn't like the sad frown on his lips or that look of self-condemnation on his face.

“I don't like it when your in pain. I know this is new for the both of us but I want you be honest with me, even if it seems small. I want you to know everything about you. Even the painful parts—especially when you're hurt.”

“I'm sorry,” he said sincerely, voice gruff, his face fell. “I don't deserve you. I don't want to mess this up.”

“You won't, but if we somehow go weong we'll deal with it together,” you said, meeting his gaze with a sharp look in your eyes. Then you chided him, “And don't talk down at yourself. We'll take it slow, communication is key in all relationships. Plus, I trust that God will lead us.”

Katsuki loved her.

“Pray for me,” he demanded out of the blue with an unreadable expression. “For my hands I mean. You didn't this time.”

You made a questioning noise at first then perked up. “Right I forgot.”

You didn't want him to appease you by doing things for your sake. But Bakugou Katsuki wasn't the type of guy who'd do anything he didn't want to. He was assertive, and sure of himself.

The blonde was letting you see a new side of him; curious, cautious and vulnerable.

You loved him.

Your heart did a somersault and you couldn't stop the grin from breaking free.

You were giddy.

God is good.

Katsuki never outright asked you to pray for him, in any way.

You were so happy you could kiss him, so you did.

A quick peck to the lips and he was steaming at the ears.

Was this the number five hero, Dynamight?

“Close your eyes, sweetheart,” you teased, chuckling at the grimace he pulled.

Katsuki didn't know how to recieve endearments or your caring nature at times.

Unlike you he didn't soak it up, he fought against it.

He was still learning to express his love, and he did wonderfully.

Better than he thought.

Your personalities were opposites but you complimented each other perfecly.

“Don't pull your face like that it's not cute,” you pinched his cheek and he glared like an angry pomeranian puppy.

“I love you,” you added.

You believed you were his missing rib, and he yours.

“Love you too,” he grumbled lowly. “Now hurry or I'll change my mind.”

“Bossy,” you took his wrist in your hands and closed your eyes. “Dear heavenly Father, thank you for keeping us safe throughout this day. Thank you for providing all that we need.”

“Thank you for your love, the blood you shed on the cross for our healing, forgiveness and restoration. Lord God, I pray for Bakugou's hands—in your name I pray for full healing, and restoration. May his pain subside—may you bless his heart and mind with peace in Jesus name. Amen.”

“Amen.”

“Thank you,” you said, staring at the blonde with admiration swirling in you eyes.

He raised a perfect brow.

“For reminding me to pray.”

“Of course. It's important to you,” Katsuki said easily, and you fell in love with him all the more. “What matters to you matters to me.”

Thank you Jesus.

You squealed, and threw your arms around him in a hug, resting your head In the crook of his neck.

Your heart felt full. “You make me happy.”

He tenderly traced your cheek with his fingertips, then pulled you into a lingering kiss. “You make me happy too.”
