Hagumi poked Misaki. Then she poked her again. And again. Misaki wouldn’t wake up. This was normal for Misaki though, Hagumi knew her girlfriend was a very deep sleeper, and it usually took a lot to wake her up. Either that or setting off her instincts, something that both herself and Kokoro would set off on a daily basis. She climbed off the bed, looking at Misaki’s face, which was squished into the pillow due to her sleeping on her stomach and being at the edge of her bed. She then backed up, as if to charge a move, and ran full force at her, jumping right on top of her.
But, almost like magic, Misaki immediately awoke and let out a little scream as she turned on her side and caught Hagumi in her arms. She sighed, deeply.
“You knew I would catch you, didn’t you?”
“I don’t know, maybe I did.” Hagumi joked. Misaki held back a laugh. She was still tired, though dealing with her girlfriend was always enough to keep her awake. She buried her face in Hagumi’s hair.
“What's the time anyway?” she asked.
“Hmmmm, I think it’s about 8 am? I’m not sure.” Hagumi responded. Misaki huffed ever so slightly. That wasn’t the worst time to be waking up. It was a Saturday anyway, and though Misaki would have appreciated at least a little more sleep, she overall didn’t mind this.
“8am? Okay…” she said. “Give me a moment.” she added, reaching over Hagumi for her phone. Hagumi was giggling. To her it didn’t matter too much what Misaki did then, because she was just happy to be there spending time with Misaki, rather than at her own house. Misaki turned on to her back, scrolling her phone and stretching while yawning. Hagumi still lay cozied up to her, though she was already fully awake and dressed.
It took about 10 minutes for Misaki to finally be up and ready, though she poked a little at her cereal in tiredness. Hagumi wrapped herself up in a scarf, mittens and hat. But she didn’t leave, instead she just stared at Misaki. “What?”
“I'm waiting for you!”
“Is that what you woke me up for? Just to go outside?”
“Well, yeah. But it’s been snowing so much! I just wanted to take this time to go and…”
“Snow?” Misaki paused. There hadn’t been anything the previous night, and she hadn’t properly looked out the window just yet, but when she turned to the window, that was when she noticed how white it actually was. There was a warning of a storm and snow the day before, but Misaki didn’t think they could actually get as much as promised. It actually made her curious about what it was like outside. “Oh lovely.” she said sarcastically, pushing herself from the table and sighing. “Give me a few minutes.”
She slipped back through to her room to change, not really wanting to disappoint her girlfriend. Besides, it would be fun, probably. Since it was just the two of them this time, and since they’d woken up before anyone else in the house would wake up. She sighed again.

Misaki was inevitably dragged outside just as it hit 9am. And it had just started snowing again. This just made her feel like she was coming out of a shoujo manga, though she was quickly snapped out of it when Hagumi tossed snow her way. She shivered, picking up her own little pile of snow and tossing it back at her. Hagumi puffed her cheeks.
“You’re not supposed to do that!” she said, before bursting out into laughter. She then jumped into the nearest field of grass, making a little snow angel. Misaki wasn’t too appreciative though.
“You’re gonna catch a cold if you keep acting like that.”
“It’ll be fine! I’ve got you with me!”
Misaki pulled her scarf over her mouth. “That doesn’t stop you from catching one though.” She said under her breath, before noticing Hagumi had her hand out. She grabbed it instinctively, being immediately tossed into the snow alongside her, face down, might I add. She probably deserved that. She was going to be soaking wet as well, but it probably didn’t matter all that much to her.
She pushed herself up so she wasn’t just eating snow and grass, rubbing her face but laughing. “I’ll pay you back for that.”
Hagumi laughed. “Just try, I can probably outrun you!” she replied.
“Bet.” Misaki said, watching Hagumi get up and start to make a dash towards town. Though Hagumi was very much right and she couldn’t keep up, having to stop by a lamppost panting outside the croquette shop. She chuckled at how convenient that was. Misaki wondered how she was even able to get this tired when she was parading around in Michelle all day. Speaking of Michelle, she’d love to be able to climb into that suit any time now, seeing as it always kept her warm and cosy especially during winter. But then she’d need an excuse for why Misaki suddenly disappeared, so she only entertained the thought.
“Told ya!” Hagumi boasted, as Misaki finally caught her breath. Hagumi placed her hand over Misaki’s, making them smile sweetly at each other. “Do you wanna go get hot chocolate? That snow was freezing.”
“Yeah, that would be good. I’d go for something sweet too.” Misaki added. It hadn’t stopped snowing at any point, meaning the two of them would constantly have to wipe off snow from their faces. Hagumi did try to eat the snow as it fell as well, which made Misaki laugh. “Maybe the bakery? Saaya would most likely let us sit inside.” she added.
“Or the cafe! They have really good food.” Hagumi replied. Misaki nodded.
“Sure, that sounds nice.” She replied. The two then continued to walk through the snow, their arms interlinked but their hands in their pockets to avoid the cold. It was this time that Misaki took to admiring the snow covering every pavement and road, practically stopping every single piece of transport but walking. How beautiful it looked as it fell and the sparkles on the freshly fallen pieces on the grass.
Then she looked at Hagumi, who was also taking in the scenery. The snow was reflected off her eyes, and contrasted highly against her ginger hair and red hat. She was really pretty in this light. But she couldn’t say that. It would be too random. The two entered the cafe and were guided to a seat, where they took their jackets and outdoor gear off once sat. They were both served their hot chocolate, as well as a croissant for the two of them.
Misaki sipped hers carefully. She didn’t want to say too much. They were given a table near the window, and the two were watching the snow carefully fall. “I’m glad you woke me up for this, actually.”
“Really? I thought you’d be grumpy and want this over with as soon as possible.” Hagumi whipped her head round to her, wiping the cream off her lips in confusion.
“No…I liked seeing this. Before everything gets done over by snow ploughs and everything. Before the big rush of people in the shops. It was nice.” Misaki continued. “And at least I got to spend a little bit more time with you.”
“Oh Misaki, I didn't think you’d be so sweet!” Hagumi replied, clinging on to Misaki. Misaki laughed a little. “No seriously! I’m glad we did this too. I’m happy.” she added.
“So, a snowman in the back garden with my brother later?”
“You bet.”
They clinked their cups together and laughed. It was going to be a good day.
