Work Text:
It was a beautiful winter day in Smiling valley, and big fat snowflakes were falling down as chilly northern winds carried them all across the valley, almost a whiteout snowstorm.
But Catnap didn’t think it was so beautiful.
Mostly because before it started to snow, he’d fallen asleep on the park bench, and forgotten to bring a scarf or mittens or even some pocket warmers.
So now he was angrily trying to trudge home in the snow, shivering and shaking worse than a maraca.
‘I hate being cold…’ he thinks as he takes a few more slow steps towards home.
He was very slowly walking past his boyfriend Dogday’s house, when suddenly, he heard someone call his name.
“CATNAP!”
He looked to the left to see Dogday had come out, wearing a scarf and boots.
“What on earth are you doing out here?!” He says as he walks over to him.
Catnap could barely lift his hand to sign the words ‘Asleep’ and ‘Park bench’.
Dogday quickly puts an arm around Catnap.
“Come inside, you can wait at my place until the snowstorm dies down.”
Catnap tries to shake his head, but before he could, he was scooped up bridal style and quickly carried inside.
Once they were inside, Dogday sets Catnap down by the front door. “Stay here, I'll go get you a towel.” He says.
While Dogday was gone, Catnap had the chance to thaw out a bit.
‘Why did I think napping on the park bench was a good idea…’
He thinks to himself.
Dogday walks over, wrapping him in a fluffy orange towel. “Here you go.” He says.
Catnap smiles softly. “Thank you…” He whispers, starting to dry himself off.
Dogday kisses his cheek. “No problem, hun.” He says. “Now, let’s go to the living room, I've put the fire on.”
Catnap blushes and smiles, slowly nodding as Dogday leads him to the living room, standing him by the fireplace, which helps to thaw him faster.
“Once you’re all dry, I’ve set up your favorite blanket on the sofa for you.” Dogday says.
He then heads towards the kitchen. “I’ll go make us some hot cinnamon cocoa.”
Catnap smiles, drying himself off more. “Sounds good.”
After a few minutes, Catnap was nice and dry.
He puts the towel in the laundry room, and then goes straight to the couch where he spots his favorite blanket, the purple one with little moons and stars on it.
Smiling, he wraps it around himself like a tortilla, and lies down on the couch for a little mini-nap, cozy and warm.
‘This is so much better than the park bench.’ He thinks to himself.
A few minutes later, he hears Dogday say “Drinks are ready!”
He sits up and sees Dogday walk over with two mugs, smiling.
Dogday hands Catnap the purple one, of course. “Here you go.”
Catnap unwraps one of his hands, taking it. “Thank you.” He says, taking a sip.
Dogday smiles softly. “No problem.” He says, taking a drink from his own mug.
Catnap leans his head on Dogday’s shoulder as he sips his cocoa, the sweet flavor warming up his insides just as much as his outsides.
“This cocoa is really good.” Catnap whispers.
Dogday nuzzles his head.
“Glad you like it.” He says. “I figured it’d be another good way to warm you up.”
Catnap smiles. “Well it certainly has.”
They spend a few quiet moments together, sipping their cocoa and enjoying each other’s company.
Once the mugs were empty, Catnap sits up straight, feeling a little guilty.
“Hey, um…Dogday?” He whispers.
Dogday looks at him. “Yea?”
Catnap sighs. “I’m sorry you had to rescue me from the snow…” He says. “I know it must have been freezing out…”
Dogday hugs him gently. “Aww, it was no trouble, Napster.” he says softly. “I’d rather get a little cold than see my favorite kitty freeze to death.”
Catnap smiles a bit. “Are you sure?” he says softly.
Dogday nods happily.
Catnap gently pushed him off, so he could unwrap the blanket a little. “Get under here you.” he says playfully.
Dogday giggles, happily getting under and wrapping his arms around Catnap’s waist as Catnap wraps the blanket tightly around both of them.
The two snuggled together happily in their little burrito of warmth, with their eyes closed while enjoying each other’s warmth, Catnap purring away and Dogday trying to keep his tail from wagging, thus accidentally moving the blanket.
Catnap then gets an idea, blushing and opening his eyes.
“H-hey Sunshine?”
He whispers.
Dogday opens one eye. “Yea?”
Catnap smiles nervously.
“Can I kiss you?”
Dogday blushes and giggles a bit, nodding. “Of course you can, Moonlight.”
He nuzzles his cheek. “You don’t even have to ask.”
Catnap giggles. “Alright then.”
He kisses Dogday happily, Dogday of course reciprocating.
The couple happily made out for a little while until they ran out of air, forced to pull back in dismay.
“Hehe, I love you, moonlight.”
Dogday says, resuming cuddling him.
“I love you too, sunshine.”
Catnap says as he purrs happily, kissing Dogday’s head.
“You give me the shivers.”
