Work Text:

It’s a bright and sunny fall morning in Smiling heights, and a certain purple Cat boy was sleeping Peacefully, lost in dreamland.

That is until his alarm clock had to butt in and rudely wake him up with its usual repeated recording of “Wakey wakey lemon shaky!” in a high pitched voice.

Catnap grumbled, angrily turning it off and lying back down, staring at the ceiling.
He didn’t want to get out of bed at all.

‘Maybe I should take a day off…’ He wondered to himself. ‘I’ve got a few absence days left, right?’

But then he remembers something…
He wanted to take his sweet boyfriend Dogday to his favorite coffee place after school.

And so reluctantly, he gets out of bed and puts on some clothes.

After a quick breakfast of toast and jam, he gets his school bag and goes outside to wait for the bus, where he’d sit alone like usual, because none of his friends rode the same bus he did.
As much as he wished at least Dogday did…

On the bus ride to school, he puts his earplugs in and lies down on the seat, managing to catch a few extra zs before being violently shaken awake when the bus arrives at the school stop.

As soon as he gets off the bus, he looks around the front of the school for a certain someone.

“Catnap!”

Catnap smiles, his heart lifting.

He turns and opens his arms for a hug as Dogday jumps into them happily.
“Good morning, kitty!” He says, giving Catnap a kiss on the cheek.

Catnap giggles, blushing a bit. “Morning, pup.” He whispers. “How was your night?”

Dogday smiles, taking his hand.
“My night was ok.” He says as he starts to walk with Catnap towards the school building. “My dad made me and my siblings Macaroni and cheese last night.”

Catnap licks his lip. ‘Mm, sounds yummy.’ he signs with his free hand.

Dogday nods. “It was,” he says. “He used like 4 kinds of cheese!”

‘Wow.’ Catnap says. ‘I hope I get invited to dinner at your place one day.’
He gently nudges Dogday with his elbow. ‘Hint hint.’

Dogday giggles. “Maybe this weekend, Napster.”

Catnap smirks. ‘Cool.’

The two boyfriends talked about nothing in particular as they held hands and walked together through the front hall and into the courtyard, where they sat down together on the big fountain.

“So, did you get all your homework done?” Dogday asks.

Catnap nods. ‘Yep.’ he signs. ‘Math, science, English and history are all done.’

Dogday smiles. “Good.” He says. “I had a little trouble with my English homework but I managed to complete it.”

Catnap leans over to kiss him on the cheek.
“I’m proud of you.” he whispers.

Dogday blushes and giggles. “Aww, thank you babe.”

They scoot closer to one another so they can snuggle for a bit.

“Hey sweetie?”
Catnap asks.

“Yeah?” Dogday responds.

‘Do you maybe wanna go on a date after school?’
Catnap asks.

Dogday smiles and nods. “Of course!” he says. “Where do you wanna go?”

Catnap smiles. ‘There’s a really good coffee place that I think you’ll like.’ he signs. ‘It’s in the middle of town, next to the book shop.’

Dogday’s tail wags. “Sounds cool.” He says.

Unfortunately their sweet moment was interrupted by the bell ringing, causing them both to groan since they knew they both had different classes first period.

“I hate that thing so much…” Catnap grumbles.

“Me too, baby, me too…” Dogday says, reluctantly getting up and helping Catnap up.
“It’s okay, I'll see you at lunch, yeah?”

Catnap smiles a bit and nods. ‘Yeah, I'll see you then.’

They share a brief kiss before sadly separating to go to their different classes.

~Coffee cup transition to after school~

After the last period ended, Catnap was standing at the bus stop, waiting patiently to reunite with his love.

Suddenly, small, furry hands covered his eyes from behind.
“Guess who!” Said a sunny voice.

Catnap smirks. “Well, can’t be Bobby, she’s too short. And Can’t be Kickin because he has feathers. So you must be…”
He gently removes the hands, peeking behind him.

“Dogday?”

Dogday giggles. “Yup, it’s me!”

Catnap laughs, turning around to hug him. “Hi sweetheart.”

Dogday hugs back. “Hi moonlight!” He says happily. “How were your classes?”

Catnap shrugs. “Boring as usual.” He says.
“So, wanna go for coffee now?”

Dogday nods. “Absolutely!” He says.

Catnap smiles. “Good.” He says, taking his hand.
“Let’s go.”

After getting a taxi from the school to midtown, Catnap held Dogday’s hand and led him to the coffee shop, which was between the bookshop and the music shop.

The sign in the window said “Bean there, done that Coffee and Cafe”

Dogday giggles. “Clever name.”
He looks at Catnap. “So, any reason you wanted to come to this specific place?”

Catnap smirks.
‘My sister works here, she can get us discounts.’
He signs.

Dogday’s eyes light up. “Oh wow, I didn’t even know you HAD a sister!” He says.
“How come you never told me?”

Catnap shrugs. ‘She’s just never come up in conversation, I guess.’

Dogday giggles. “Oh well, let’s go in.”

Catnap nods. ‘Let’s.’

The two walk in, still holding hands.

It was a pretty standard coffee shop, with an ordering counter with a glass case full of little pastries and sandwiches, a menu, a little chalkboard that said “Special today: 2 for the price of 1 on any drink or pastry”, a few tables and chairs set up around the shop, and some paintings of steaming coffee cups, coffee pots, and fruit on the walls.

The barista was a light orange cat with darker orange fur on her hands, feet, inner ears and the end of her tail, which was… a third hand…? Eh, Dogday’s seen weirder.

She notices Catnap, waving to him happily.
Catnap smirks and waves back.

The two happily get in line behind some other customers.
After a while, they got to the front of the line.

“Well hi there!” The barista said.
Dogday noticed her name tag said “Catfiene”.

Catnap smiles. ‘Hi sis.’ He signs. ‘Haven’t seen you in a while.’

Catfiene giggles. “You got that right.”
She looks at Dogday. “Who’s this?”

Catnap smirks. ‘This is Dogday, my boyfriend.’ he says.

Dogday waves. “Hi.”

Catfiene’s eyes sparkle. “Oh Catnap you dog!” she says. “I didn’t know you had a boyfriend.”

Dogday giggles. ‘Well we’ve only been dating about two months.’ He signs.

Then, someone behind them clears their throat.
All three of them looked guilty as they realized they were holding up the line.

“Hehe, let’s talk later.” Catfiene says. “What can I get for you?”

Catnap giggles nervously. ‘I’ll have my usual.’ He signs.

Catfiene gets her little order notepad and pen. “So a Mint matcha tea latte with strawberry milk?” She says as she writes it down.

Catnap nods. ‘Yeah.’

Catfiene scribbles it down. “Gotcha. And what for you?” She says as she looks at Dogday.

“Hmm…” Dogday says as he thinks. “Can I have a Vanilla Chai tea latte with milk froth?”

Catfiene nods and writes it down. “You want whipped cream on that?”

“Yes please.”

“Alright.” She says as she writes Dogday’s name under it. “Do you guys want any snacks or pastries with that?”

Catnap shakes his head. ‘I'm not that hungry, how about you?’ He signed to Dogday.

Dogday looks over in the display case.
“Hmm…” He thinks. “Can I have a vanilla cream croissant to go with that?”

Catfiene nods, writing it down. “Coming right up.” She says.
“Are the drinks for here or to go?”

Dogday looks around, then says, “To go, it’s kinda crowded here.”

Catfiene nods, putting the order in. “Okay, I'll call your name when your order’s ready.”
She says with a smile.

Catnap and Dogday smile back, then get out of the way so the next person can order.

They stood in the corner of the store while waiting, holding hands while Dogday happily leaned his head on Carnap's shoulder, giving Catnap warm fuzzy feelings.

“Catnap and Dogday?”
Catfiene said after a few minutes.

The two walked over, Catfiene handing them their drinks and Dogday his croissant on a little paper plate.
“That’ll be $7.50 please.”

Catnap nods, giving her the money and signing ‘Thanks sis.’

Catfiene smiles. “No problem!” She says. “Make sure to call me later, I wanna talk to you and your bf more.”

Catnap smiles. ‘Will do.’ He signs as he and Dogday turn to leave.

Catfiene waves bye to them. “Have a nice day!”

Dogday waves back. “You too!”

As they leave the shop, Dogday says, “Well she seems nice.”

Catnap snickers. ‘Key word is ‘seems’.’ he signs.

The two laugh.

“I couldn’t help but notice that her colors are quite different from yours.” Dogday says. “Are you two really related?”

Catnap smirks. “No, she’s adopted,” he says. “But she’s still my sister.”

Dogday giggles “Wow, what a coincidence.” he says. “One of my sisters was adopted too.”

Catnap’s eyes widened. “Woah, really?”

Dogday nods. “Yep.” she says. “She’s the only sibling who doesn’t have warm-colored fur, hers is blue while the rest of us have orange fur.”

Catnap smiles. ‘Wow.’ He says.

‘I wonder if they know each other.’

Notes:

First time featuring one of the frowning fritters in my fics woo
I’ve been a bit reluctant to because usually I don’t like writing other people’s Ocs, because I’m always scared that I'll get their character wrong and then their owner will be offended

So pretty please nobody show Eggritos this
But, there are lots of other stories with the frowning critters so I thought hey why not

I might include some of the other frowning critters in my stories if you guys request
