Work Text:

Yami frowned as he heard the alarm clock blaring shattering what had promised to be a warm lazy morning where Yami would be able to stay snuggled up in Atemu's warm embrace. But alas, that was not meant to be.

Yami peaked open a tired crimson eye to glare at the alarm clock as his boyfriend reached over and silenced the damn thing.

With a small smile Yami nuzzled back against his lover's chest. "Thanks, Ate." Yami whispered.

Atemu sighed, his arm draped loosely around Yami's body as he held his boyfriend close. "Unfortunately, Yami, I had that alarm set for a reason." Atemu said.

Yami lifted his head up to look his boyfriend in the eye, "What do you mean? It's a Saturday! You and I are supposed to be taking Yugi to Kaiba land together today, since we promised him that we could bring him to the big Holiday Extravaganza thing." Yami said.

Atemu let out another sigh. "Yeah, I know that Yami. But, well things come up. And Seto called me yesterday afternoon. Said that he needed last minute help for the Holiday Extravaganza. Said one of his crucial pieces has the flu and he's begging me to fill in for him today." Atemu said.

Yami let out a groan of frustration. There were sometimes where his boyfriend could be just too giving. As Atemu had told him before he didn't have a lot of family left, so when his cousin managed to swallow his pride and reach out and ask for help Atemu never would tell Kaiba no. Yami could get it, he really could. Didn't mean that in this very moment he had to like that giving side of his lover.

"He did promise to make it up to us." Atemu quickly added.

Yami glanced back up at Atemu, "Oh? And how has your cousin promised to make things up to us for stealing you away on the Saturday that you and I already had plans?" Yami asked.

Atemu chuckled, "Well, for one Seto has promised that he wasn't going to bother EITHER of us for the rest of the holiday season. That means no surprise Duel challenges will be coming your way. He also said that you and I would be welcome to use his cabin up on the mountains over New Years if we wanted. And I told him that that would be fine. Its only going to be for this weekend." Atemu said.

Yami sighed once more as he allowed his eyes to slip closed. Atemu had that look on his face where he was almost looking like a kicked puppy. And despite everything Yami knew that this was important to Atemu.

"Okay fine Ate. But you better tell your cousin that we are holding him to those promises! And that he better have security available if Yugi and I get mobbed today at Kaiba Land." Yami said.

Atemu nodded, his beautiful rose red eyes lighting up as Yami spoke. "It's a deal Yami."

Yami just chuckled, "You're lucky that I love you so much Ate, otherwise I wouldn't have been nearly as forgiving." Yami said.

Atemu pecked Yami on the cheek before he climbed out of bed and quickly started to get ready. Yami watched him go before he allowed himself to just flop back down on the bed. He still needed to get himself together and then get Yugi ready to go. He still had at least a few more minutes to relax before he needed to leave the warm confines of his bed.

Ah the wonders of December. The frigid cold. The insane holiday crowds. The snow-covered roads filled with drivers who had all forgotten how to drive. Definitely the most wonderful time of the year. A fact that Yami kept repeating to himself as he inched his way closer to the parking lot for Kaiba Land. A brief glance in his rear-view mirror revealed the cheerful face of his much much younger brother, Yugi, who was 8.

Yugi had seen a preview on television about Kaiba Lands holiday extravaganza and ever since he’d seen that commercial had been practically pleading with Yami to bring him. And Yami regretfully had conceded. Damn adorable kid who had gotten an A on his math test and deserved a reward.

And what was worse was that he didn’t even have his boyfriend with him to help Yami deal with the holiday stress, since Atemu had actually gotten himself roped into helping Kaiba out with said holiday extravaganza.

Finally, after what had felt like an eternity Yami had finally managed to reach the parking lot and find a parking spot. He parked the car and got Yugi out of the back seat and made sure he had on his hat, gloves and his coat. He didn’t want his brother getting sick on him.

“Alright Yugi, lets go. Now hold my hand. There are a lot of people here. I don’t want you getting lost.” Yami said.

“Okay.” Yugi excitedly exclaimed as he tried to drag Yami out from beside the car and towards the park entrance.

Only for Yami to harshly yank Yugi back shouting, “CAR! Yugi, you need to watch for cars.” Yami hissed as he glared at a car driving far too fast through the parking lot that would have made Yugi into road kill had Yami not pulled him back.

“Sorry Yami, but you’re going too slow.” Yugi whined.

Yami rolled his eyes, “I’m not going to slow. I’m going to get us to the entrance in one piece.” Yami said.

“Come on. If we don’t hurry we’re going to miss it all.” Yugi whined.

Yami briefly closed his eyes and counted to three before reopening them, summoning a new round of patience in defense mode. If only it worked that way. Life would be so much easier if Yami could just solve everything with Duel Monster cards like he could when he was dueling, which he did professionally.

Yami allowed Yugi to tug him out from beside his car and together the two made their way slowly, and carefully to the line of people waiting to enter the park. Yami glanced down at Yugi who was bouncing from foot to foot in excitement and back up at the line of people before he tugged Yugi out of the line and over to one of the turnstiles that looked like it was closed. A bored employee was sitting there sipping on hot chocolate dressed in a rather atrocious elf costume, only the color scheme was changed so it matched the Blue Eyes White Dragon.

“Yami, where are we going?” Yugi asked.

Yami sighed, “You’ll see Little One.” Yami said as he approached the turnstile.

The employee briefly glanced up before their eyes drifted back down to rest on something below the counter. If Yami were a guessing man he’d wager it was the employee’s phone. “Lines are to the left.” The employee said.

Yami nodded, “And I know that. I also know VIPs don’t have to wait in those lines.” Yami said.

The employee glanced back up, a frown on their face as they scrutinized Yami. “And you are?”

“Yami Motou.” Yami declared.

The employee flicked their eyes up and down Yami, taking in his face that was red from the cold the winter hat pressing his hair flat so that only his blonde bangs could be seen and his winter coat. “I’m gonna need to see some ID sir.” The employee said.

Yami sighed as he fished his hand into his pocket and pulled out his wallet to flash his drivers license, and also his Duelist ID badge was also visible. The employee’s eyes widened before he quickly waved for Yami to come through. “I am so sorry Mr. Motou. I didn’t recognize you.”

Yami snorted, “Clearly.” He said as he shoved his wallet back into his pocket.

“Enjoy the holiday Extravaganza.” The employee called out. Yami didn’t reply and instead just led Yugi into the park.

“So, what do you want to do first Little One?” Yami asked.

“I want to ride the Blue Eyes Coaster.” Yugi shouted.

Yami sighed. Of course, Yugi did. “Yugi, you’ve ridden that thing a dozen times. I thought the whole point of coming to this special Holiday Extravaganza was to do, I don’t know, Holiday stuff.” Yami said.

Yugi stopped for a moment, clearly contemplating what Yami had mentioned before he grinned once more, “You’re right Yami!!! Let’s go check out the gingerbread house.” Yugi declared before he started tugging Yami off towards the Kaiba dome.

Yami did his best to make sure his hat was firmly in place, because of course Kaiba Lands massive gingerbread house was housed in the same spot where Yami had clenched his most recent world championship title. He had no desire to be mobbed by well meaning fans while he was here.

The pair made their way to the Kaiba Dome and sure enough there was a massive gingerbread house inside, large enough that kids were able to walk through it and find bowls of candy inside. “Can I go inside Yami? Can I can I can I?” Yugi asked.

Yami sighed, “Sure Yugi, but I want you to come straight back to me when you finish looking around in there. No wondering.” Yami said.

“Okay!” Yugi shouted before he turned and darted into the Gingerbread house.

Yami loitered outside the entrance to the gingerbread house while he waited for Yugi to return. He hoped Atemu wasn’t absolutely miserable helping Kaiba with this whole thing. He also hoped Atemu was somewhere warm and not stuck out in the freezing cold where he could catch his death. Not that Yami wouldn’t happily nurse Atemu back to health, he just hated to see his lover sick.

A strange whirring sound above his head made Yami glance up to see what appeared to be a small remote controlled drone hovering above his head. Yami squinted at the drone to see…Is that a fucking sprig of mistletoe on that stupid drone!?

“Ho ho ho, what do we have here?”

Yami turned to glare that approaching park employee dressed in a Santa Costume. His glare softened however when he recognized sparkling ruby red eyes tinged with amusement as he made his way over. Apparently Atemu’s task at this holiday extravaganza was to play Santa. Well, at least he was dressed warm.

“Can I help you?” Yami asked slowly.

“Well, it seems young man that you’ve been chosen by our festive drone to receive a special reward.” Atemu said, his eyes continuing to sparkle.

Yami crossed his arms over his chest as he looked at Atemu, waiting for the punch line. “And what reward would that be?” Yami asked as he noted that a small crowd was beginning to gather around them.

Atemu held out a bucket of some Christmas candy. “You can have one of these special holiday treats…unless, there is something else you might want?” Atemu said.

Yami found himself smirking despite himself as a hilarious thought popped into his mind. “If you don’t mind me pointing out Santa but the drone currently hovering over my head is holding a sprig of mistletoe. And am I wrongly remembering that when one stands under the mistletoe, they are supposed to get a kiss?” Yami said.

Atemu chuckled, “You are not wrong young man. And I wouldn’t want to be accused of not following the rules.” Atemu said as he stepped closer to Yami.

Yami smirked as he slung an arm around Atemu’s shoulders and pulled his lover in close. Atemu smiled at Yami before leaning forward and their lips met in a kiss.

Yugi exited the gingerbread house, his jacket pockets loaded up with all the candy he could stuff in them as he made it outside to find his brother. Only to freeze when he spotted him.

Yami was kissing Santa Claus!!!!

For a moment Yugi just stood there in shock. He couldn’t wait until they got home that evening. He was sure that Yami’s boyfriend, Atemu, would want to hear all about how Yami kissed Santa today at Kaiba Land.
