Summary
James Doakes has a lot of suspicions about a certain blood-spatter analyst—the man’s been a freak show since the start. He acts like he’s perfect, with the fake-ass jokes and the fucking donuts and the everybody’s-friend-facade. But James can see through him, can see past that pathetic mask and to the empty hollowness of a monster beneath it. And now that the fucker’s gotten him suspended, he’s got plenty of reason to break into the man’s house to investigate. He just needs to drop by and talk to Maria one more time before he goes, tell her to take care of his family if things go wrong. This might be the last time he talks to her, after all.
