For Luck, Mi Amor

Summary:

Written for AAA Week, Day 1!

Agatha’s a super academic, and Rio is a new student, who just so happens to run into her…

Work Text:

“Fuck me,” Agatha Harkness grumbled, throwing up her parking break. Her laptop bag sat in the passenger seat, and she grabbed it as she flipped down her visor mirror.

A quick stroke of heavy eyeliner, and an adjustment of her barely acceptable for school skirt, and she was out the door.

First day of the first semester of her Sophomore year, and she was already late. She barely had time to react, when she slammed into someone.

“Hey!” She shouted, quickly bending down to grab the bag that had crashed to the ground. A pair of hands grasped the handle at the same time, and they stood up with her.

Beautiful brown eyes met hers, and an awkward smile. “Sorry!! I truly didn’t mean to run into you… I have no idea where I’m going, and I’m totally lost.”

Agatha’s heart froze in her chest, along with the breath in her lungs. She’d never seen such a gorgeous woman before, and she felt her cheeks heating up against her will.

She was dressed in a pair of tight blue ripped jeans, and a rock t-shirt, armed with a black zip up.

“It’s fine, it’s fine. Where are you going?” When usually she would be enraged about running into someone when she was late, which she never was, but for some odd reason, she wasn’t. Not when a raven haired goddess was standing before her.

Chill out, Harkness. Be cool.

“I’m looking for Calderu, 211.”

“That’s where I’m heading. I’ll take you.”

“Oh, thank you so much!” A brilliant smile appeared on her face, as the girl heaved Agatha’s bag onto her shoulder. “I’m Rio Vidal. Just moved here from Eastview.”

“Agatha Harkness, unfortunately been here my whole life.”

“You’ve got a really nice last name!”

Do you want it?

“Thanks. Rio means river?”

“Yeah. I’m Puerto Rican.”

“Neat.”

They walked in silence as they moved through the slowly emptying halls.

Rio interrupted the silence; “You must be really smart, because this weighs like a hundred pounds!”

Agatha chuckled. “Happy mother, means less murder.”

Rio grinned. “I’m a basketball player, so I’m all around a hot disappointment.”

You’re hot alright. You can play me anytime you’d like.

“I doubt that. You look intelligent.”

“My grades are pretty good. You should see me in glasses.”

“I hate wearing my glasses.”

“Betcha you don’t look that bad.” Heat rose to her face again.

Calderu’s class was thankfully still loud and chatty, when the pair slipped into the room. Agatha’s normal spot, just in the middle of the room was still empty and waiting for her, and another was open beside her.

“Did you maybe wanna sit together?” Rio asked quietly.

“I’d love to…” Rio beamed and let Agatha lead her to the desks. She quickly put the laptop bag beside her, and slipped into the other.

“So, you’re pretty and smart, and walk the halls alone, huh?”

“I’m a bit of a fire cracker, so people don’t tend to stick around the hotheaded one.”

“I like spicy, so I think we’ll be okay.”

They ate lunch together, while Rio told her stories about herself. She spoke highly of her little brother Nicky, and her engineering parents.

“Sorry if I’m a rambler. I just do that around pretty girls. Anyways…”

Rio spoke about how she already tried out for the basketball team, and was already accepted. How one day, she wanted to go to NYU on a basketball scholarship to go into biology.

When she opened the floor for Agatha to tell her about herself, she was met with a pure version of the girl before her. Agatha spoke animatedly about wanting to be a lawyer. Hidden behind her excitement she held absolute relief inside her mind, when she didn’t push for Agatha to tell her about her own mother.

Two months flew by. The pair were inseparable. Constantly together and laughing. Agatha going to watch Rio train, and Rio minding Agatha in the library. Eventually, Rio needed a break from their scholarly commitments, the night before her first basketball game.

“Enough. We’re going for coffee.”

Instead of having normal people conversations, they got into a heated debate, in the small diner down the street from Agatha’s house.

“…cause if France didn’t exist, where would we all be tied from? Everyone’s from France.”

“That’s what I’m saying! That’s why…”

When 7:30 struck, an alarm went off on the older girl’s phone. “Do you want me to drop you off at home and then drive you to school tomorrow, for your car, or do you want me to drop you at school now? I just need to be home for 8 or my mother will kill me.”

A sly smile appeared on the younger girl’s lips. “I’ll take option 1, cause then we reduce the possibility of your blood being spilled, Aggie.”

“Damn, a girl who wants to make a good impression with the strict mother? Good girl…” Agatha drawled, shuffling around in her pockets for her keys.

Silence for the first time fell on the pair, and Agatha quickly realized why. A deep red blush appeared on the other girl’s face, and her already dark eyes went deeper.

Rio slammed a 20 on the counter, which was more than enough to cover their two cups of coffee, and leave a healthy tip. She grabbed Agatha by the hand and practically dragged her through the door, while Agatha laughed the whole way.

Before they got into the car, Rio turned on her. “I wanna just check… I’m pretty sure I’m reading this right, but forgive me if I’m wrong… Please tell me you like girls, and aren’t just one of those annoying straight girls who flirts with everyone.”

Agatha rolled her eyes, and surged forward, grabbing the younger by the front of her hoodie. No words were exchanged before their lips crashed together, and fingers were lost into hair.

“There is nothing straight about me, or the way you’re making me feel right now…” another kiss. An alarm buzzed again from her pocket, and Agatha whined. “Fuck.”

“It’s okay, baby. We’ll get you home before you’re dead.”

“Already calling me baby, are you?”

“Do you have a problem with that?” Rio opened the driver’s side door.

“Not if you’re serious about this.”

“U-Haul lesbian, baby…” she cackled. “I’m kidding. I’ve never been more serious in my life.”

“I’m yours.”

“Good.”

Another kiss pressed to her lips, and Rio quickly moved to the other side of the car.

They drove in silence, except for the soft rock drifting from the stereo. At some point during their 5 minute drive, Agatha’s hand found Rio’s and rested on the glovebox between their seats.

When Agatha pulled up to Rio’s drive, she turned to the other girl, as she stopped the car. “We calling this a date?”

“If you wanna.”

“Then I walk you to the door.” She stopped the engine, and flung her door open to get Rio’s. She grabbed the younger’s hand as she pulled her out of the car, as Rio led her up the steps to her front door.

“I’ll see you tomorrow…”

“Drive safe, okay? I’ll meet you on the curb, and text me when you get home.”

While they usually would’ve hugged in the car before Agatha drove off, Rio pulled her letterman jacket off, and draped it over Agatha’s shoulders.

Hands still on the lapels, Rio pulled Agatha in, and pressed a final sweet kiss to her lips.

“For luck, mi amor.”

“You’ll still see me before your game, before school, during, and I’ll watch you play…”

“Still. You’re my lucky charm.”

“Alright, Romeo, for you.”

“Thank you. Remember…”

“Remember to text, I know.” One last kiss, “I’ll see you tomorrow morning.”

“See you tomorrow morning.”

As Agatha put her car into gear, she couldn’t wipe her smile off her face. She fell in love with the new girl.
