Fit’s shoes have barely hit the mat when he hears the entrance doors softly close, echoing through the otherwise silent building.
“The closed sign is on for a reason,” he says, wiping his hands to get rid of excess chalk. “But then again, you never do pay attention, do you?”
He turns on his heel, and is met with a grinning Pablo, who absentmindedly spins a set of keys around his index finger.
“It’s more fun not to,” Pablo replies.
“I’m not even going to ask,” Fit gestures to the keys. “Just get them back to the owner before he wakes up in the morning.”
Pablo scoffs. “I’m not a monster, Fabio.”
Fit clicks his tongue and turns back around. “That’s not the reputation you have at the station.”
“As long as that’s what you think,” Pablo says as he walks over, to the point where he’s so close to Fit that he can feel the other man’s breath. “I’ll be the biggest, baddest monster around.”
Fit rolls his eyes. “Whatever,” he chuckles. “They’re gonna have a field day with you in prison, you realise that?”
Pablo laughs quietly. “Oh, we’re back to this, are we?”
“We were never away from this,” Fit says. “I just happen to like toying with my prey a bit before going in for the kill.”
Pablo hums, and presses a lazy kiss to the side of Fit’s neck. “Bring it on, detective.”
Fit shrugs Pablo away and turns to face him - the fucker is smirking, of course, eyes sparkling beneath that damn mask.
Fit’s about to quip an extremely scathing yet hilarious retort, but decides instead to be a man of action.
He grabs a fistful of Pablo’s shirt - which, due to the expensive material, nearly slips through his fingers - and shoves him against the wall, probably with a bit more force than necessary.
Pablo gasps slightly but doesn’t otherwise respond, and makes absolutely no attempt to escape.
“Nothing to say now, huh?” Fit says, eyes locked onto Pablo’s.
Pablo’s gaze continues to flick to Fit’s lips and back again, completely involuntarily.
“Wow, Pablo,” Fit darts his tongue across his lips, and his smile grows when he sees Pablo swallow thickly. “You want to kiss me?”
Pablo doesn’t respond, just continues to hold Fit’s gaze. His stare does falter every few seconds, though, and his breathing has quickened.
“You want to kiss me on the lips? Take me on a date? Woo me and seduce me before taking me back to your place?” Fit asks, his smile only growing more wide when he sees Pablo let out a shaky breath. “And then we’d… what?”
He doesn’t say anything more, lets the silence settle around them. It’s only a few seconds before Pablo opens his mouth to respond, but Fit doesn’t let him.
He releases Pablo’s shirt and takes a couple of steps back.
“Well as flattered as I am by your enthusiasm at the idea,” Fit says, casting a cursory glance downwards, causing Pablo to blush. “I should really go and finish this workout.”
He picks up his water bottle and towel and begins heading over to the tallest rock climbing wall.
“You know,” Pablo calls after him. “That wall isn’t the only thing you could be climbing tonight.”
Fit doesn’t bother turning around. “I’m good, I like my climbing apparatus to actually be a challenge.”
Pablo simply laughs and jogs to walk beside him. “I could be the most difficult challenge you’ve ever had, Fabio,” he shrugs. “But if you never take the chance, how would you know?”
Fit casts a side glance at him. “I took that chance one too many times.”
“And yet you keep going back,” Pablo taps his chin. “Doesn’t make much sense, you know?”
Fit grits his teeth but doesn’t respond, and feels grateful for finally arriving at the tallest rock climbing wall.
Pablo remains surprisingly silent as Fit prepares for his climb, and the criminal stands with his hands on his hips, watching intently.
Fit pays him no mind as he begins his climb, enjoying the adrenaline swirling through his veins and the determination flooding through him as he quickly approaches the top, and sits atop the wall, taking a deep breath.
“Impressive!” Pablo calls, and lightly applauds. “Seems I still have a lot to learn about you, Fabio!”
“Let’s save it for the interrogation room, shall we? My team is hot on your trail from Tuesday’s robbery.”
Pablo clicks his tongue and readjusts the mask. “Are they, though? I know for a fact that one of your undercover officers walked right past one of my colleagues when he was holding the statue.”
Fit has no way of telling if he’s bluffing, so decides to change the subject - he’ll grill the team over the potential missed opportunity at the next team briefing.
“You ever actually do any of it yourself, anymore?” Fit asks, preparing to make his descent.
“Well, the thrill of the steal is absolutely second to none,” Pablo shrugs. “I would never let anyone take that away from me.”
Fit doesn’t respond, just begins his descent.
“Besides,” Pablo continues. “The initial steal is where you, mister head detective, are most likely to be on your own. The best chance to catch the bad guy, right?”
Fit drops the remaining small height safely onto the mat and in front of Pablo.
“So why would I let anyone else take that away from me?” Pablo grins, and hands Fit his towel and water bottle which he hesitantly accepts. “I really enjoyed the view just then, by the way. One of my favourites.”
“You’re so fucking obnoxious,” Fit says between sips.
Pablo nods. “It’s been said, yes.”
When Fit begins to walk away, Pablo of course follows.
“So where are we going now?” he asks, with the annoying tone of a whiny child in a long car ride.
“Well, hopefully you’ll be going to rot in a ditch, and i’ll be going into an early retirement on top of my pile of money for finally ending your pathetic empire.”
“That doesn’t sound very fun,” Pablo pouts. “I always hoped my end would be more,” he pauses for a moment. “Dignified. Tubbo taught me that word recently.”
“Can he teach you how not to be an annoying piece of shit?”
Pablo laughs. “Fabio, come on now. You want to change the very essence of who I am?”
Fit spins on his heel. “I want to change the very essence of who you are by bringing you and your stupid empire down. I want to crush you under my shoe like the pathetic bug you are on the street that is society, and begin cleaning up the mess you constantly make just by breathing.”
For a second, Pablo almost looks stunned, but a face-splitting grin takes its place.
He takes a step forward. “Why was that kind of hot?”
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” Fit pushes him away with enough force to make the other man stumble, and marches away.
When he arrives at the shower block, he’s actually surprised that there are no footsteps following him - maybe Pablo finally got the message.
It’s not until he wraps one of the gym’s fluffy towels around his waist as the last step of his preparation that the other man makes himself known again.
“Damn,” Pablo has his arms crossed against his chest and is leaning against the doorway, blatantly and shamelessly checking Fit out. “Never get tired of that view.”
Fit sighs. “You’re still here. Of course you’re still here.”
“Like i’d ever miss this,” Pablo rakes his gaze up and down Fit’s body.
Instead of a reply, Fit grabs another towel and tosses it to Pablo.
Pablo’s eyes widen slightly. “Really?”
Fit shrugs. “You scared?”
And then he turns around and steps into one of the showers, and waits. He hears fabric dropping to the floor and light footsteps heading in his direction.
When Fit catches sight of the dark blue, he scoffs.
“The mask? Really?”
Pablo winks. “You know what they say, Fabio, the mask stays on during-“
“Awfully presumptuous of you.”
“Call it intuition.”
Pablo then steps into the cubicle, his eyes fixed on Fit’s.
“See, why have you walked in here?” Fit asks, rolling his eyes. “Presumptuous. You think i’m the kind of guy that hooks up in a shower cubicle?”
“I think you’re the kind of guy that could use a guy like me.”
Fit turns the shower dial, and turns back to face Pablo, whose breathing has quickened.
“You want me to use you?” he asks, and watches as Pablo’s pupils blow wide.
“Oh,” Pablo licks his lips. “In every single way.”
And then Fit pulls him into a kiss that evidently takes the other man by surprise as his gasp-turned-moan echoes from the marbled shower tiles.
The water continues to stream down them as they kiss. Fit feels Pablo’s fingernails lightly drag down the length of his back, so he makes sure to drag his fingernails down Pablo’s back hard enough to leave a mark.
Pablo laughs as they break apart.
“I should have expected that, huh?” he laughs again, running a hand through his wet hair.
“Stop assuming you know anything about me, asshole,” Fit replies, and rolls his eyes as he turns to reach for the shower gel.
When he feels a palm against his flesh and squeeze, he bolts back upright, momentarily startled, and spins back around.
Pablo is looking at his nails and whistling nonchalantly.
Fit narrows his eyes. “Seriously?”
He shouldn’t be surprised, really, it’s not like he doesn’t know that Pablo is extremely handsy and a self-proclaimed ass man.
Pablo purses his lips and meets Fit’s eyes - he widens his eyes to continue the act of innocence. “What?”
Wordlessly, Fit reaches downwards, making sure to lightly graze the inside of the criminal’s thighs before grabbing his target, and smirks as Pablo gasps and practically trembles at the contact, turning to putty in Fit’s hand.
“Nothing to say?” Fit says, and continues to smirk as Pablo tries to close what little distance remains between them.
“Please,” he breathes out, eyes drifting closed.
Fit continues the motion for a few seconds, then pushes Pablo back, causing the other man to stumble and his eyes to snap open like a rude awakening.
“Again, I should have expected that,” Pablo says, laughing breathlessly.
“Yeah, you should have,” Fit agrees, nodding as he rinses his hand under the shower, and begins to lather the shower gel across his chest.
“You still find ways to surprise me,” Pablo muses, and tries to grab at Fit’s flesh again.
“And those thoughts will keep you warm on cold nights in prison,” Fit says in a deliberately saccharine tone, and stomps on Pablo’s foot after dodging his hand.
“Sure thing,” Pablo winks. “But bear with me a moment, I have some,” he glances downwards. “Unfinished business.”
“Whatever, princess. I’m done here anyway.”
“Princess?” Pablo repeats, and leans in, wiggling his eyebrows. “That’s a nice nickname.”
“For a child or pet, yes,” Fit says, turning off the shower. “For you, a scathing insult that you will cry yourself to sleep over.”
Surprisingly, Pablo simply laughs and pushes Fit against the shower wall and kisses him deeply, hands roaming down his body with reckless abandon.
It’s the epitome of the cliche, of them both fighting for dominance in the kiss, and Fit would rather die than lose to Pablo in any kind of situation.
It’s only when Pablo breaks the kiss to begin nibbling at Fit’s collarbone when Fit pushes him away and steps out of the shower.
“Oh come on,” Pablo whines, placing a hand on his hip. “We deserve some fun, right?”
“I won’t have fun until you’re out of my fucking sight,” Fit replies. He lets his eyes slip down Pablo’s soaking wet skin, pooling atop the curves of his hips. He spends a second staring between the other man’s legs. “Just take care of that situation so I can kick you out of here and go home.”
“Boo,” Pablo sticks out his tongue and turns back around. Fit sees him remove his mask and wring it out - he’s half tempted to run back into the shower just to finally see Pablo’s unmasked face, but decides against it - he isn’t sure why.
Instead, he heads into the locker room and waits - begrudgingly.
Pablo eventually strolls in, as casually as if he owns the place, and smiles.
“Fancy seeing you here.”
“Bite me.”
“Ooh, can I?” Pablo gasps in excitement, and laughs when Fit rolls his eyes.
Pablo sits on the bench opposite Fit.
“Listen, i’ve had fun, so i’ll tell you a secret,” he leans forward conspiratorially.
“And why would I want or believe any of your secrets?”
Pablo laughs. “You don’t want to catch Mister X, then?”
Fit clenches his hand into a fist. “Keep talking.”
“Hm, I think you’ve earned it. He’s been taking up too much of your time anyway.” Pablo buffs his nails against the towel that is loosely wrapped around his waist. “All that time you spend chasing him.”
“I don’t chase anyone,” Fit replies.
“Of course not,” Pablo meets his eyes. “You have your employees to do that, right?” He winks. “But it’s personal with me, isn’t it?”
Fit scoffs. “You flatter yourself,” he leans back on his hands. “But I am absolutely going to be the one to arrest you once and for all when you inevitably fuck up.”
Pablo clicks his tongue. “We can try that roleplay now, if you like. Closest you’ll get to the real thing.”
Fit doesn’t respond, and gets to his feet. He pulls his clothes from the locker, and lets out a string of swear words as his hoodie is swiftly taken right out of his hands.
“We’re not doing this,” Fit sighs.
But Pablo has already shrugged the hoodie over his body, so baggy on him that only the hemline of the towel around his waist is now visible.
“Looks to me like we’re doing this,” he shrugs, and does a dramatic twirl on the tip of his toes.
“I know you still have my jacket at your place, by the way. You’re not keeping another thing of mine.”
Pablo shrugs. “Looks like I am.”
Fit runs a hand down his face. “I hate this, and I hate you.”
Pablo tuts. “Hate is a strong word, Fabio.”
Fit nods. “And yet I mean it, so very much.”
Pablo runs his hands down the hoodie, flattening the fabric against his curves. “It’s worth it.”
“I’ll get it back when you get sent down for a life sentence.”
Pablo straightens his mask and grabs the remainder of his clothes which are strewn across the tile floor. “Nice little story you’re writing there, will you let me read the finished thing?”
Fit takes a step forward and links his hands either side of the hoodie’s front pocket, pulling Pablo against him.
He stares Pablo down, silently challenging him. The other man stares right back, and licks his lips.
When he hears Pablo’s breath hitch, Fit smirks.
“You’re a cocky little shit, and, my god, do I hate you,” he whispers. “But I fucking love that i’m always in here.” He rests his forehead atop Pablo’s, the soft fabric of the other man’s mask causing a pleasant friction. “If only everyone could see the big bad criminal like this, completely fucking whipped. And for a detective, nonetheless.”
He begins pressing a trail of butterfly kisses down Pablo’s face, down to his collarbone, where he continues nibbling long enough to most definitely leave a mark, enjoying the feeling of being entirely in control - Pablo doesn’t even try to fight it, just lets out a string of continuous moans and gasps.
He kisses his way back up, and pauses when he reaches the bottom of Pablo’s mask.
“But you know what I think I enjoy the most?” his voice still isn’t above a whisper.
Pablo swallows thickly but doesn’t answer.
Fit takes one of the thin mask straps between his teeth, and pulls away as far as the fabric allows, then lets it snap back. Pablo gasps at the sensation.
“That i’ve never seen anyone try so fucking hard to be seen as tough, yet every little thing I do makes you fall apart.”
Pablo gulps.
“So who knows what you’d do if I really tried to take you down?” Fit whispers. “You might as well hand yourself in, accept the prison sentence - at least you’d save some dignity.”
Pablo meets his gaze, pupils blown, but continues to stare in silence, in defiance.
“But then again,” Fit chuckles. “That wouldn’t be as fun. The most fearsome of predators all play with their prey before going in for the kill.”
He feels Pablo’s hand graze the inside of his thigh, and in one swift motion has the criminal’s arms above his head.
“Oh Pablo,” Fit shakes his head dramatically. “That won’t do at all.”
“So what are you going to do about it?” Pablo asks, making no effort to break his arms free.
“What do you want me to do about it?” Fit asks, making an effort to lick his lips slowly whilst maintaining eye contact.
“I,” Pablo pauses, breaking his gaze away from Fit’s mouth. “I want to finish what we started.” He nods towards the shower block.
“Then we’ll do the complete opposite,” Fit says, dropping Pablo’s arms and gathering the remaining of his belongings. “It’s late, and frankly i’ve had enough of you for one day.”
Pablo stands dazed for a second, but recovers quickly. “Boo,” he jeers, but picks up the remainder of his clothes and follows Fit out, still draped in Fit’s hoodie.
When they’re in front of the entrance doors, they pause.
“You’d better get those keys back to the owner before morning.” Fit warns.
Pablo rolls his eyes. “I already told you, i’m not a monster. You have my word.”
“If only that meant something,” Fit says.
“How come you have keys anyway?” Pablo asks.
“I invested in the place when it was still under construction. Me and the owner are close.”
Pablo hums. “Oh I bet.”
“Oh, grow the fuck up,” Fit scoffs. “I’m so sick of the sight of you by now. To be honest i’d have kicked you out by this point if you’d have already told me about Mister X.”
Pablo winks. “I must’ve known.”
“Tell me,” Fit practically growls, his remaining patience running dangerously thin.
“Ooh,” Pablo winks again. “The hot growl voice is back. Nice.”
Fit pins him against the wall. “Now.”
“No need for this,” Pablo rolls his eyes, using his own strength to break free. “All you had to do was sweeten me up a little.”
“Doing anything sweet with you sounds like hell,” Fit says.
“Hell is more exciting though, don’t you think?”
Fit doesn’t respond, just keeps staring him down.
“Fine,” Pablo sighs dramatically. “Look into the bakery on the high street. They’re keeping more than cakes stored there, if you know what i’m saying.”
“A dead goldfish would be able to know what you’re saying,” Fit says. “Subtlety is hardly a talent of yours.”
Pablo looks up at him. “This is sounding like a funny way of saying thank you.”
Fit doesn’t say anything.
Pablo sighs. “I’ll get you one of these days,” he runs his thumb over Fit’s cheek. “In more ways than one.”
He retrieves a keycard from somewhere, and slips it down the front of Fit’s shirt.
“Switched to keycards rather than a code. Good to switch out security every so often, can’t have any… bad people seeing my home, can I?”
“And why are you telling me this?”
Pablo shrugs. “You tell me.”
Fit swings the door open and pushes Pablo through it, into the street. He locks the doors of the gym and turns to a smiling Pablo.
“I’m gonna go home. You go literally anywhere else.”
Pablo pouts. “Are you sure?”
“More sure than i’ve ever been of anything in my life. Fuck off.”
And then he begins walking away, feeling somewhat smug for having the last word.
“Well the offer is still open,” Pablo calls after him. “You know where to find me!”
And a few hours later, after Fit had authorised a warrant for a search of the high street bakery and his undercover officers had uncovered a trove of illegal contraband, he sighs happily after finishing a congratulatory call from the mayor.
He twirls the keycard around in his fingers as he finishes his drink of whiskey, looking at the cityscape from his window.
Once the glass is empty he looks down at the keycard for a few seconds before getting to his feet and stuffing the keycard into his pocket, and grabs his jacket.
Besides, it is station policy to reward those who provide viable tips that lead to an arrest.
