Sparring

Summary:

Sparring - Korrasami Week 2024 Prompt

Work Text:

The room was quiet except for the rhythmic pat of bare feet on the hard rubber sparring mat. Korra stood in the middle of the gym on air temple island, her hands raised into fists, as she took time to control her breathing. Asami circled her in a slow arc, each stride of her long legs forcing Korra to shuffle her feet to keep her opponent in her sights. When Asami suggested she help Korra train her hand-to-hand combat, she had no clue what she was getting herself into. She knew Asami was an incredible fighter, because of course Asami is amazing at everything she does, she is lithe and nimble, while being incredibly powerful. Korra can still feel the subtle ache of the blows she has taken in the hour they have been sparring, the cushioned gloves they wore only doing so much to mitigate the force behind each blow. Asami gave Korra one condition when she agreed to start training her.

Don’t pull your punches. Asami smirked.

Korra never imagined that she would wish she hadn’t agreed to such terms the first time she felt Asami’s gloved fist make contact with her ribs.

Now Korra found herself in the middle of the ring, Asami was circling her like a tigerdillo stalking its prey, her arms were relaxed at her sides as she strode around the room confidently and smiling. Of course, it doesn’t help when Asami is gliding around the room kicking her ass in what must be the hottest outfit Korra could ever dream of. In reality, what she is wearing isn’t out of the norm at all, tight fitting fighting pants and a workout bra in her signature red colors, she wears it every time they spar like this, and every time Korra feels like it’s a gift from the spirits that someone thought to invent whatever holy material stretches so perfectly over her girlfriends’ thighs. When Korra’s eye flit back to waiting emerald eyes, she can tell her ogling has not gone unnoticed.

“Distracted?”, Asami smirks pulling her bottom lip between her teeth, goosebumps form on Korra’s skin as Asami rakes her eyes over her body. Korra smirked right back, she made a point of wearing just a simple chest wrap and her loose combat pants that she knows Asami loves, she has very fond memories of Asami dipping her fingers below the elastic band after their last sparring session. Why have abs like this if not to show off for my girlfriend?

“If I had more of a challenge I wouldn’t be.” Korra quipped. Asami has been wiping the floor with her this entire session they both knew it, Asami feigned annoyance at the comment all the same. In lieu of replying Asami moved, feigning a jab to Korra’s left shoulder testing her defenses. Korra side stepped smoothly, registering the subtle tensing of Asami’s muscles just before her attack. She countered with a swift kick aimed at Asami’s ribs, she blocked it easily with her forearm using Korra’s momentum, in one fluid movement she had completely spun them both around and knocked Korra off balance with a well-placed leg behind Korra’s weight bearing leg, tapping her shoulder so lightly with her gloved fist Korra didn’t even feel it. She ended up on the ground regardless, the sudden change in momentum sending her straight onto her back, pinned by Asami’s hips with her hands on Korra’s shoulders. On instinct Korra’s hands went to those torturous thighs while she blinked the stars from her eyes. Asami leaned forward, her breath tickling the shell of Korra’s ear sending a not-so-subtle shiver across her body.

“You should relax more, even when you are on the defensive relaxed muscles are faster than tense ones.” Asami told her. Ever the diligent teacher, in reality Korra knew this to be a fact. She is a water-bender after all, she knew that fluidity could only really come from loose fluid muscles, and when it came to air bending it was the same concept. All about relaxing and being free to move, fluid motion a clear mind. All concepts that Korra continues to struggle with even after years of training and meditation, this is why these sessions were suggested in the first place. Mastering non-bending combat could only help her when it comes to all forms of bending combat. If anyone else had said those words to her she would have prickled, defensive that someone assumed she doesn’t know a basic rule of fighting (like the thing she is best at). But this is Asami, sweet, caring, beautiful Asami who would never do anything to undermine her intelligence or abilities. Asami who is practically purring into her ear, as Korra strokes the soft fabric around her girlfriends’ thighs, how could she ever be upset at that?

“I’m always relaxed around you.” Korra throws a lopsided grin at Asami, chancing sliding her hands from soft thighs to the soft warm section of Asami’s exposed waist, enjoying the way black pupils slowly envelop green iris.

“I can think of a way to really help you relax.” Asami hums leaning back to drag her hands from Korra’s shoulders down her chest to her flexing abdomen leaving one to draw appreciative circles around her navel, allowing the other to drift to graze the elastic of her pants.

The slide of a partition door makes Korra snap her gaping jaw shut in time to glare in the direction of whoever would dare come into a public space that was definitely not a good place for Asami to have her hand in her pants.

“Um… Am I interrupting?” Opal awkwardly asks a bright blush spreading across her cheeks.

In all fairness, Asami was able to pull herself into a much less compromising position before Opal had the door fully open. Korra however has never had a good poker face.

“We were just wrapping things up.” Asami stood smoothly, brushing her hair over her shoulder and offering a hand to Korra. Korra took it dumbly allowing herself to be picked up, stripped of her sparring gloves and lead out the door by the same nimble hand that had all of her attention moments before.

“Ok, Bolin asked if I could help him with stance training.” Opal looked back and forth between them fiddling with the hem of her air nomad robes.

“Go easy on him”, Asami winked nodding at Bolin as he waved hello asking if they would be staying for dinner tonight. Korra still unsure if she could form words was grateful when Asami answered. “Oh no Korra and I have dinner plans tonight. We will catch you next time though.”

Korra was grateful to whatever spirit allowed for them to get out of air temple island without running into anyone else, suddenly all she could think about was more training with her girlfriend.
