Chapter Text
Luna Wright still hadn’t sent a message.
Watching her boyfriend and his crew of adventurers set sail to wake up the entire world set a blaze within her own heart. She helped with whatever skills she could offer, setting them off to the far reaches of a world that felt so big in recent memory. Voices echoed across the sea and cheers became the sound of crashing waves as they left with speed Luna thought she would never see again in her lifetime.
“I’ll morse code you Senku!” She had yelled to him from the docks. It was such a ridiculous statement but it was the only way she could ever talk to her boyfriend again. They were separated by so much sea and work.
When she was informed that he was the type to tell her what she liked to hear in order to further his own goals, even to the point of marriage and divorce. It had managed to dampen her mood since she didn’t want to date some sort of sleazebag, though seeing him fight despite the pain he was in and her own warnings. Maybe she didn’t need to worry about a guy like that. Though she was determined to be the best partner to Senku, she never managed to muster up the courage to send him a message.
As soon as she got to Corn City it was all sorts of work to be done! She needed to talk to the soldiers left behind to follow Xeno’s new orders, then came the real news that they would be building a computer. Luna was as shocked as anybody else though there was the confidence that they could get it done somehow.
Though building a computer, which for the time being Luna could only understand was to wrap wire around little donut things, and calling your boyfriend were two different tasks! Luna was a capable girl, she wasn’t the clingy type that needed to have constant reassurance of a little thing like a relationship status. Though figuring Senku was all the way in India made her feel something aching. She missed him for as much as him she knew of.
“Luna! You got a message,” Yuzuriha said as break time was starting up. Luna got up and stretched first, already feeling her back want to give out on her.
“Whose it from?” Luna had never received a message before, usually they were instructions that came from Senku. The line was always so busy as Yuzuriha needed to keep in contact with the science crew to see if they were doing things correctly.
“Your boyfriend,” Yuzuriha said in a rather cheery tone. Luna of course told everyone about her love life, or rather the only boy she asked out in the Stone World. Sometimes getting sympathetic nods and more rumors which she rather not recall.
Luna though didn’t expect this, fixing herself as if Senku could see her though she knew that was useless. Though if there was a way he could see her, she didn’t want her after work-self to be the first thing he's seen in months.
She was brought to the communication room, filled with machinery she only vaguely knew of. There was even something else being built off to the side. Luna would guess she would be told what it was later on when it was finished. She was given a little sheet with dots and dashes, morse code never looked more intimidating before. Luna puts on the headset to try to catch the message again, only getting halfway there before she needs Yuzuriha to help her out.
It was embarrassing to say the least, learning something like this on the fly, yet not handing it gracefully.
“When will I hear from you Luna.” Yuzuriha explained the message to her, teaching her patiently how to interpret the code in writing as well.
Although the message invaded her mind during Yuzuriha’s lesson. Luna’s breathing increased when she thought about all the implications of this darn message.
How could Senku even hear her when she yelled that out to the sea, her voice must have been drowning in the wave of people that would miss their friends. The thought of Senku waiting to hear her voice one last time sent her heart in a turvy, it pounded within her chest like a drum and it's like her own body wanted to spill itself out onto Senku. Though she was so cool listening to Yuzuriha’s instructions on how to use the darn thing.
“You just click on this part right here to send signals towards them, you can practice since I turned it off,”
Yeah it was kinda easy when Luna was explained what the machine did, she could send a quick message right back to Senku. A very cool girlfriend thing to do, reassure her boyfriend that she still thought about him. Though why did he think about her?
Yuzuriha watched as Luna was so still when it came to writing her own message to Senku, how could she be coy if she didn’t know what Senku was thinking when it came to his message. What was the purpose of speaking to her when she knew he was the busiest guy around. It was then a hand held hers, so gentle and yet calloused. Her hand was practically trembling on the transmitter and slowly Yuzuriha turned her hand over to a piece of paper instead.
“You know what I think?” She inquired and Luna looked at her like a lost puppy. “Senku doesn’t do things unless he really wants to, there doesn’t need to be a reason.”
Which made Luna’s shoulders relaxed even just a bit. When Yuzuriha left was when Luna really wanted to get her message right.
Penning it before sending it over to Senku. Feeling nervous about sending a long message out to him, like it was imposing onto him some extra work to talk to her.
Luna practices on the transmitter when its off, getting a feel for sending a message over the radio. The little clicks foreign to her and the message so simple she wasn’t even sure if she should send it to him. It felt like nothing to her though Luna still tapped it over with slow clicks. Hearing her message of beeps and pauses.
.. / .- –
I am
As simple as this was it felt so weird to figure out, Luna wished she had more help from Yuzuriha but didn’t want to trouble her on the break as well. Soon enough Luna would also have to go back to, reading herself to click the rest out.
.... . .-. . / ... . -. -.- ..-
Here Senku
Luna gulped as she waited for a response, the message being repeated over and over again across the world. Though it didn’t feel like enough, she wanted to play it off as cool but her feelings were burning so bright. Luna clicked the transmitter again for another quicker message to send to Senku. Luna didn’t pen this one beforehand and it came right from her heart rather than her brain. She also hoped Senku noticed that too.
.. / -- .. ... ... . -.. / -.-- --- ..-
I missed you
Luna had hoped it came across as cute rather than cheesy she felt right after sending it. She rested her head on the table, waiting not a moment longer for some beeps to come her way! They were so fast it was hard to write it all down. Eventually feeling her heart swell up when she’s got it all down and translated.
.. ...- . / -- .. ... ... . -.. / -.-- --- ..- / - --- --- / .-.. ..- -. .-
I’ve missed you too, Luna
